I have the cupra ateca in black I absolutely love it. It is by far my favourite car I have had. I have had lots of golf gti's in the past but this is just purfect for me.
Great review. I'm in the UK and was on an 8 month waiting list for mine... I bought it in white and the gloss black finishes really stand out well. So pleased with mine and the power is awesome... Only thing I've found is it's very juicy on fuel! I get approx 350miles (don't know what that will be in km) at a cost of approx £90 (don't know what that will be in Aus Dollars)! 👍🏻🏴
Good to see you Tom. I reckon SEAT really conceals the issue with most VWs that fail to impress when it comes to design and perhaps dynamics as well. Since they have shifted their focus to more upmarket stuff, I wish they start producing a longitudinally mounted engine platform like what Mazda has done
The Ateca Cupra is pretty much a VW Tiguan with the the Golf R motor. It's closer in size to an SQ3 than SQ2. The Formentor is smaller than this and more like a crossover i.e T Roc R, SQ2 equivalent than an SUV and we have had both in NZ for a while. Seems like you have the range descriptions backwards?
Great review as usual! Looking forward to the 1000KM review… my golf r has a fair few rattles and hoping this one doesn’t. Could you also show how many large suitcases the car fits?
Hi Tom, great review. The Ateca is very, very similar (bodywise) to the Skoda Karoq. It is built in the same factory in the Czech Republic. Do you know if the Ateca has Matrix LED headlights? These will be standard on the facelifted Karoq arriving later in the year.
Gosh it reminds totally of the inside and out....the body lines, shape and interior totally lifted off the Tiguan. Understandable as they are all VW owned
Everybody says they like them but nobody ever buys them. The skoda VRS, and the smilarly powered 330i wagon are available, yet I've seen about 5 of the skodas, and only around 10 of the 330i.
@@chasingcars understandably, it wasn't a poke at you guys. I love your content regardless, just a shame Wagons are pretty much done and dusted... And I couldn't be born a decade earlier.
@@bonk945 I actively tried to buy a 330i wagon previously. The dealer discouraged me, and encouraged me to get the sedan instead (even gave me a huge discount, and a fully speced vehicle) in mid 2020. Not that I needed a wagon or a SUV, but their range and appeal in Australia is very limited.
Wrong! Ateca is not in the Q2 class. Its class is somewhere between Audi Q2 and Audi Q3, on the Q3 side. You are right that Ateca is the same class as Skoda Karoq.
The interior does look a class lower then a Skoda Karoq Sportline or Kodiaq RS. Both vehicles are like he said a half generation behind the new Octavia and Formentor. An SQ2 seems to be an odd comparison, as that car is more similar to a VW T-Roc R in size. This seems more comparable to a Karoq, Tiguan or Q3.
The SQ2 & VW T-Roc R are built on the same platform as the Cupra Ateca, which is why it's often compared to it. The Karoq can be compared to the standard Ateca, but not really the Cupra. The Tiguan (R) is a different platform and more like the Audi Q3 than anything else (also a completely different price range) and then the new Q3 again is a different platform to the Ateca. The only performance version of the Q3 is then the RSQ3, which comes with the same engine as the RS3 and is again, considerably more money. It's difficult to pinpoint something to compare the Cupra Ateca to, though, as when you consider the price, practicality and speed, there isn't really anything else near it, unless you start looking at cars with different body types or different prices.
@@jakebarber5089 Currently hunting for a small SUV and my last two choices are between the Cupra Ateca 1.5L version and the Volvo XC40. They seem to come out at about the same price but the Volvo has of course a much more premium feel
For this price I would take Skoda Karoq Sport with every hand, Skoda is more practical, cheaper, quality is also very good and who needs in Australia 221KW when on every corner there is a speed camera or mobile camera and also the roads are not in such a good quality for such a speed as well. So Skoda wins, also with 7 years guarantee! This Ateca is overpriced, you might be able to buy KodiaQ for this!
There's laws on speeds but no laws on how fast you get there. I've driven the Ateca and the accelerations makes it much more fun to drive than the Tiguan, T-Roc and similar Audi's in that price range. Which is why I pick my new Ateca up tomorrow, which itself is a plus as most Audi's, VW's have 6-12 month waiting lists.
The centre console infotainment integration & AC control stack looks pulled straight out of a 2010s car, not impressed at all. Whilst it'll undoubtedly be easy to use without looking, it looks dreadful inside and out to me. Looks like a dowdy Skoda crossdresser trying to look fancier than it is
kia sportage is much much better than this. leather seats, interface, digital seats, 360 camera, and most imp thing 10,000$ cheaper. this is a crap car, no service centre's as well. Kia sportage is car of the year 2022.
Sportage with a whopping 132kw 🎉 versus a 221Kw rocket that also has leather seats and quite a premium interior. The closest Sportage in comparison is the GT line and a quick look at those on Carsales shows they’re much more expensive than Ateca. But wow hey sportage has ‘digital seats’ you say. @@yowie6747 Test drove a Cupra Ateca recently, definitely a good engine but the interior really does not feel like it suits the price point. Much worse finish than the VW Tiguan for example, or the Volvo XC40. The on board tech like 360 cam, wireless integration and powered tailgate make up for that a bit but I really cant see how the price is justified. Its just a slightly better SEAT which itself is a poor mans VW or Audi.

Will you be reviewing or comparing the formentor line up? VZX too pricey and would be interesting to compare the V and VZ.
Cupra or Skoda or VW or Audi. Nice choice to have against the South Korea or Japanese models

Also have this car from 2019 and it does it all
Wow, the rear looks pretty underdamped, it is bouncing vertically as you over the crest.
Can we get more Sportswagons and less SUVs ?
As it is we already push wagons very hard. The market wants crossovers. So we cover them.
