"Our estimates of capital cost plus [operating] deficit for a three-year period are about the same as the cost of building one mile of the elevated section of The Gardiner Expressway." - Ontario Minister of Highways, C. S. MacNaughton, 1966 We've come full circle.
I really enjoyed your OldToronto series. Born and raised in northern Ontario, it’s fun to learn about the city.. i’m a truck driver, and I haul fuel from the Esso and Metro (formerly Sunoco) terminal s on Finch and the Shell terminal on Keele. I would love to see a video on the history of the petroleum industry in Toronto. Esso has old aerial pictures in their lobby at Finch before anything else was built around there. Keep up the great work…
They built subway trains in Toronto in order to get rid of streetcars back in the 1950s/60s. When the subway trains got too expensive, they started building and operating GO (Government of Ontario) passengers trains to connect suburban commuters with downtown offices.
i remember the thrill as a very young child when my dad and i went across the bloor viaduct for the first time on the subway.
This is great to see how much life has changed and yet is still similar. 😊 Thanks for sharing. 👍

When I grew up in Toronto TTC used to mean "take the car".
And it will take another 57 years to finish the Eglinton LRT

Can we bring Chairman Allen back to life to work on our TTC now?
@5:20 she looks like a young Jackie Kennedy. 🤭
If we decided to build this today it would be completed sometime in the next century.
nice
Nice!
All white society that time
Allen was a man ahead of his time.
At 5:10 "prettier than most" ❤😉-- miss that old pre-woke, politically incorrect time.....
