Growing up on the streets of Kampala, Uganda. This hit graced our air waves... As a youngman life was sweet... now life is very different its all about hussle and survival....
It must have been HUGE from South Africa to Uganda especially since Africa 🌍 is low in media connection. We don't always see 👀 what's happening in our continent but know a lot more about what's happening abroad.
I was born in 95 but there is something unique about tge 80s. Seem like everything was pure and the music is best and no vulgar or drugs just good rhythm and melody
Hey 80 was bad, there was a smell of teargas all over even in class, we used to have soldiers guarding every school in Soweto and many students disappeared from the face of the Earth...the likes of Stanza Bopape, Mbuyani.....etc.
Condry ziqubu is the legend in South African music.i like the drum beats and that mild touch of african drums.1990s music was superb but now days music is all about making fame and money but not entertaining like the oldies music ones of 80s to late 200s.
not South Africa but West Central Africa. We headed South and you guys East hence there's some similarities in our languages. From the song the word nyama (for meat) is the same in all Southern African languages including Burundi, Rwanda and Congolese Lingala despite being spelt differently in others such as niama in Lingala.

I used to sneak into Odians Cinema in Jinja just to watch this song as an introduction. Sometimes the askari made us clean the hall before people entered as we watched that music on the big screen projectors. On Idhi day my mum used to give us money to go to Odians and watch Chuck Norriss, Bad Spencer, Clint East Wood, Bruce Lee, Ninja, Drunken Master, Disco Dancer by Amita Bachan etc. RIP mum and my cousin Karim Hajj.

I have been listening to this song since I was a boy. It was yesterday when I knew what it saying.

My best old school song ever from the king him self Condry ziqubu
When life was lived like there was no tomorrow, the kitchen parties, discos, concerts etc. Greatest song indeed!!!
At times it's difficult to understand how they managed to produce such memorable songs amid grand scale apartheid policies.
They made it against all odds Jorge.
Its high time that the legendary Condry Ziqubu gets appreciated by the Department of Arts because wow this is scintillating❤️
SANG IN SOUTH AFRICA UNDERSTOOD IN EAST AFRICA! I LOVE THIS SONG

I have strong connection with this type of music. What is the the genre of this music?
Takalane Mathebula kwaito music
It's South African Bubblegum music. Perhaps the most famous artist of such a genre was Brenda Fassie. This is music from the 80s, it was followed by Kwaito in the 90s. Some of the most famous Kwaito artists include Mandoza, with the crossover hit song Nkalakatha.
We refused the label Bubblegum because we found it desparaging and instead called it Disco Music
It's mbaganga
