Volvo 240 D24t Turbodiesel Engine Swap Part 1: Disassembly and Prep
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- In this episode, I start working on converting my Volvo 240 from the original Redblock gasser to a D24t turbodiesel from a 740, including a mini will-it-run. More of a vlog-type video, we will get back to the tech talk and whiteboard segments when it starts going back together.

"The ol' Red Block - they call it that because it's...green" :D Love it!
Red block is the b230 engine, green block is the early d24 engines
Love the Volvo content!!
Definitely helps with our Volvo trouble shooting.
underrated
Keep up the good content my guy. Still looking for a new engine for my 850 T5. I’m also going into old Audi 5 bangers this late season👍🏻
Just found your channel
really dynamic and super funny!!!
keep up the good work

0:22 Nope, it was 1983, when the 760 launched.
Man I'm so glad to have found you're channel!! You're hilarious!. And barefoot in the garage!?!?!? Lmao. How do you do it!?
Love the content man!
We want more!!
Morning Buddy! Are you interested in doing some product review projects? Check the dialog! Talk about more details.🤝
Great vid!
Please go with the M46. The M46 is much more likely to take a burnout than an M47.
M47 is absolute dogshit
Yeah, so I have been told. It's going to be a mild street car, so I'm sure It can handle the light duty. If it gives up I'll just T5 swap it in the future.
Or I'll just keep the m46 to avoid pulling a third drivetrain for one engine swap.
👍👍👍 D24T
Is the front engine crossmember for the redblock the same as for the D24?
As fast as I know, yes. Only the mounts are different.
where do we get some of that sweet merch?
I can ask my mom to make another one
Honey wake up! New tyre spaghetti & beans just dropped!
Tyre spaghetti and beans you say? Would be a good slogan for some merch.
do you sell parts do different countries?
Yeah, I'll ship, DM me if you're interested!
Careful. If it smells like phishing it is
I would stick with the M46, M47 bellhousings are much harder to find anyway and are weaker transmissions. I know a guy you could get an m46 bellhousing for a d24 for about $200, i got my m46 bellhousing from him for my 765 d24t swap
Hi @bakedbeansgarage. I have a 244 d24. I drove my car about 140 miles one day, which was the longest I have driven it in a while.
I get home, park it overnight and try to start it the next day. It is extremely hard to start and it just cranks and cranks until eventually the battery dies. I spent an entire day trying to figure out what It was and my biggest lead was that it was not getting enough fuel. Looking everywhere online I was met with mixed advice and nothing that really lined up with what my car was like.
Is it possible that overnight that my injection pump lost prime and it simply cannot draw fresh fuel to the injectors? If so can I reprime it but using suction at the return hose on the Injection pump.
Thankful for any advice. This is my only vehicle and I have no way to get to work unless I fix it soon.
Yeah, if you have air getting into the system, The pump can lose prime and will not draw fuel. It's also possible that the vane pump in the ip is worn out and not drawing enough fuel. Check for fuel leaks between the pump and the tank, and a lift pump might help.
Are your glow plugs getting hot?
@@bakedbeansgarage116Thank you so much for the repair! I will check that out . I have not taken the glow plugs out to see, I did measure with a multimeter to see if they get power and they do. The relay also promptly switches off after the glow state is completed.
For context I did bump start the car since it’s a Manual transmission. It will start and idle, very poorly but it won’t respond to any throttle whatsoever
do you know if the turbo oil return pipe is the same one from the 1.6 diesel golf?
I'm not sure, I don't have a 1.6td to compare it to.
Havent you ever thought about putting a om606 mb in it ?
Yes I have! It would be an excellent swap, but I already had a d24t.
Ya see, where you went wrong there was not licking your fingers prior to grabbing the live distributor cap.
Hi! How do I get in touch with you regarding selling parts for other countries? Any E-Mail where I can reach you, since I can't seem to find any DM option here on youtube?
I didn't realize they got rid of that feature, sorry.

Medium rare please.

Can't afford
M46 is infinitely better than the M47, dont go with that 5 speed heap of junk.
How are the ratios for the highway? That's my main concern.
Maybe I'll just go straight to a T5, but I already have that planned for a future build.
@@bakedbeansgarage116 My 740 -90 has got an m46 with i belive a 3.31 diff, crusing easy at 2.5k rpms at 60mph (b230f engine thought)
@@bakedbeansgarage116 The M46 has 0.79:1 ratio while the M47 has 0.82/83:1 depending on model. so the m46 is more suitable for diesels, that and they are more durable is why they came on diesels originaly :)
@@pistolpoppa 3,54 should be 2500rpm and the 3,31 2200rpm
This video was so good? I decided to stay home from the Bar and Order a Wendy's Triple Bacon Cheeseburger.
