@ Why would they mention Trevor Moore? You know the US really did send chimps to outer space right? It’s not like WKUK came up with that concept. It really happened. So it’s two different takes on an event. The two sketches are completely different in tone and humor. In one, it’s understood the chimp isn’t coming back and the humor is in what a petty dickhead Trevor Moore is. Who is the petty dickhead in this sketch? No one. It couldn’t be more different tone-wise. It’s comedy is in how cinematic it is, mocking sentimental Ron Howard type movies and even Hidden Figures. WKUK sketch ends with Moore sending the chimp into the sun out of pettiness. This one ends with Mulaney happy that the chimp is going to fuck his wife. Both of those things are funny in completely different ways.
@marioargiropoulos7555 Watch the sketch, it's beat by beat the same sketch with small additions and a different ending. The whole beginning, middle, and even the chimp name show you that someone lifted it. SNL is well known for this so it's not like it's the first time.
@ I’ve seen the sketch. It’s not beat for beat at all. Again, in the WKUK sketch it was understood from the start that he wasn’t coming home. The humor is that while some of the NASA people are sad about Bobo, Trevor Moore couldn’t possibly give a shit and even punishes Bobo with death by shooting him into the sun… simply because Bobo inconvenienced him when he showed up on screen. NOTHING like that happens here. The joke here is that NASA is treating this like the Apollo 13 disaster. The humor is in how overly dramatic it is and some of Beppo’s computer responses. Neither of these things exist in the WKUK sketch. The main guy in the WKUK sketch kills Bobo on purpose. In this sketch the main guy is happy to let Beppo fuck his wife. That’s not “adding” something. That is fundamentally different humor. One’s humor is in how mean it is. The other’s humor is in how overly dramatic and sentimental it is. It’s two different takes on an actual historical event. You could even say that SNL saw the WKUK sketch and thought “How would this be portrayed in an uplifting PG13 movie?”, and even that makes it a completely different sketch with completely different humor.

This skit is in my head every damn day! every damn day I think of Beppo! I need Beppo!
To ruin your day there’s a stray dog from Moscow who was the first living being in space and the poor dog had no idea it wasn’t coming back home. She was so happy and excited to go on the air craft and when they shipped her off they tracked that her heart rate went way faster then normal so she was very scared and it took her 4 hours to die from the heat of the craft…… yea Russia came out later and said they didn’t even learn enough from the mission to “validate” killing her like that. RIP Laika❤ you were a good girl
i immediately thought of laika during this sketch too
I went from laughing to crying poor baby that’s so god dam awful!! How could anyone do that
😭
@@2wayalley743 im my head she survived and became cosmo
I know it’s a lie but let me be happy
Yup. She was a German Shepherd. Flight was in 1957.
First SNL skit in a decade to make me cry laughing. Thanks John Mulaney!
I was virtually jumping and clapping when Beppo walked into the room! I was so worried he’d actually die
sure, you were.
You know this a comedy sketch featuring a fake monkey... right?
@@Igaveyoumyfakename you’re not FUNNNNNNNNN
For real, I was all in lol 😅
You are definitely one of those over dramatic people at the cinema 😂😂
When the ship went boom... 😂😂😂 I was crying over here!
The audience alternating between mild laughing and mild sorrow.... 😭
Beppo equals HERO forever.
This is not an SNL sketch.
This is a movie with heart! ❤
Correct. This is a WKUK sketch.
It's directly lifted from a Whitest Kids U Know sketch.
@@Eli_B3000 , oh, okay, thank you for translating! It's still a great sketch though.
All the actors actually look like the NASA guys in space program films
Math nerds, science nerds, and drama nerds are all cut from the same cloth, that’s why.
@@BooksForeverHmmm. Id trust a math nerd with my finances, I’d trust a science nerd to cut me open and repair my internal organs…i can’t think of a single pivotal thing Id trust a theater nerd with. 😂
It's all in the glasses and the short sleeve shirts
@@h0rriphicto entertain lol
And the white short sleeve shirts! 😅@@agathacathartese7041
Why do I want Beppo to be a recuring character now? Like Beppo saves Christmas, Beppo runs for president, Beppo wins an Oscar.
I literally cried I was laughing so hard at the ending
Why do all the male cast members work so perfectly in mid-century fashion? The make up and costumes dept really nailed this.
No to mention Sarah Sherman's 'do.
Everyone looked better in the 1950s and early 60s...when people wore adult clothing and hair.
They're skinny by modern dad-bod standards.
The loads of cigarettes 🚬 but the red self destruct button 😂😂😂😂
Oh ffs I got tears in my eyes. Whoever wrote this, darn you.😂
It's a Saturday Night Live Midnight Matinee sketch (which just started on the Ariana Grande/Stevie Nicks episode), so Dan Bulla did it (there's even a vanity plate at the end).
WKUK already did it! (kind of)
SNL's was WAY better
@@meflove SNL's best sketch doesn't even come close to WKUK's worst.
Big basket of apple for you too Bo bo
This sketch was written by WKUK's Trevor Moore
This goes to show that anything can reaonate as long as it's well written and just decently genuinely acted because i got too emotionally invested in this sketch about a fictional ape getting stuck in space.
This is WKUK. At least give them props.
Laika makes me so sad, I needed something like Beppo the Chimp. I would watch this if it was a long film too.
Me too, depressing how they let any animals die alone without comfort or food in darkness
That seems to be an orangutan. An orangutan baby actually. Orangutan babies are cute little guys, they kinda look like little tubby troll dolls in real life. Unlike chimps who are pretty violent orangutans mostly spend their lives just vibin.
My favorite sketch in years it was spectacular.
Why the fuck did the make Beppo absolutely adorable
A. How else would he get the girl at the end if he didnt have any rizz.
B. They wanted all the people who cant distinguish reality from comedy to get all emotional over a comedy bit with a puppet....thats their little inside joke on those types.
The big eyes! That’s why all mammals as infants have large eyes - it triggers hormones that make adult mammalian brains produce empathic responses. Or so I’ve read.
@elizabethpayne53 neotony at its finest.
But his eyes were so big, they were more orang than chimp😅
@@avidadolares Rizz...Oh lord
hahahaha and here I thought he looked like a monster. "You know the thing about a shark, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye. When he comes at ya, he doesn't seem to be living, until he bites ya and the black eyes roll over white"
This is one of the best SNL skits I've seen in a while. Added bonus is I can watch it with my kids.
Watch the original one then.
this is just the Whitest Kids You Know sketch basically
Perfect skit. Every emotion was experienced with beppo
