I just found your channel. Your friend made a great selection! It seems slightly larger than a 36 though. I go to Japan every year and will window shop next year when I go. I’m worried I’ll find another Rolex to add to my collection. It’s addictive. I’ve never bought used before, but I’m learning a lot from your channel on what to look for.
At minute 6:45 you say “ silver dial ? you tell me “ , well exactly what I think , I have the same watch and I noticed that in day light this dial looks a kind of light gold tone , wich is not very nice . Anyone there knows why is that ?
That’s a great purchase! The white really pops on the day light. I’m headed to Japan in July but I’m looking for Patek or Vacheron. How’s the preowned market for those watches?
Great choice, trying to get a blue dial would have put him over his budget. I wouldn’t be so concerned about a complete set over condition since datejust’s aren’t all that collectible. He managed to get both a complete set and great condition so he did well.
Prices have really gone up. I was in Japan April 2023. I purchased a 1994 Rolex datejust. Fluted bezel on a jubilee with diamond champagne dial. With box and papers, I paid 798,000 yen.
@@EricMartonelli Cheers good find! I’m beginning to understand how the Rolex market functions. Has Rolex ever rereleased dial colors that they alrdy did in the past? If not, is the grey market the only option? I can imagine the champagne dial looks amazing especially in the light.
@@IamnotJokic I’m from Australia and the watch market is very difficult for luxury watches. However for me buying watches has to have a story, that’s why I collect. So when I found my Rolex it had box, papers. It was in my dream destination in Japan and the watch was made in the year I was born.
Planning to head to Japan end of this year. Where is the best places to buy the following. 1. Submariner with Serti dial 2. Yellow gold day-date presi 3. Daytona 3. Omega Speedmaster Ideally with box/papers
Super valuable thank you so much for taking the time to share this. I’m in Japan next week, if you were suggesting the best place to visit to hunt for a pre-owned vacheron overseas - where would you suggest? Thanks a mil have a great day.
It just makes servicing at RSC easier. That's because if there's some problem with the tritium hands, and they insist on changing them, you'll get Luminova hands on your watch. I'm not a fan of the mismatched aesthetic of lighter hands on a dial with tritium patina.
Did Rolex ever make a 16220 with lumed dial and non lumed hands ? Mine has and I’ve never seen it elsewhere so I’m assuming it has had the hands changed , any ideas anyone ?
Have you or your friends purchased watches using creditcard? Is there a fee in doing this? We're heading to Tokyo at the end of the year and I would be planning to visit these shops to make a purchase. Thanks
Bazillions of datejusts out there, but soooo many are polished into oblivion (many of the most "affordable" pieces are quite old and have gone from owner to owner to owner). You really need to know your sh** to buy one that will be worth it. The time to buy a dj was years ago, when a mint one could be had for about 3 grand. But then again, not all that long ago you could get a very nice Explorer II for 4 grand! How times have changed. Now this is just me and my opinion, but for less than the buyer's price range a mint Seamaster 300 Pro could be had. That is a heck of a lot more bang per buck. But hey, it's his money and he wanted a datejust, so congrats to him.
Revisiting this video dem' DJs very pricy. Theyr presently goin' for almost 50% less on eBay (w authentication, papers etc). I would have gone with the 'first' white dial U serial w incomplete papers bec the bezel looked near mint condition, noticably sharper edges and less worn. But still a well counseled aquisition via our shogun host.
Hi Austin, question looking for a 16233 heading to japan in april 2025 would it be just better to go straight to nakano? I was planning on going to ueno at satin doll first. Thanks
If you want to be thorough, I'd it all the areas: Ueno, Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Nakano. And I'd consider using Rakuten to get a general idea of what's out there before you hit the shops.
This is an excellent "how to shop for a watch" video.
Lovely example of your amazing knowledge in this video, Austin. 👍
Great choice, white roman is one of the best dial for 16234.
Great video ! Very informative as well. Thanks Austin
Great video btw , very informative as what to look for 👍
Beautiful watch! Awesome find.
Great choice. White with romans plus fluted and jubilee is the perfect configuration imo. I'm on the lookout for a 116234 with same.
Hello Austin , you put in a lot of effort to find the best watch for the allocated budget. Well done. This Rolex really looks amazing. 😊😊😊
Much appreciated!
White dial roman is spectacular
Very nice choice!
I really like these buyer videos Austin.👍
I’m partial to that machine-tuned bezel. Very “art-deco”.
16220 great watch!
MOE - you had a great escort , very nice pickup. AD - good video. ~. JDS/CT
missed these vids
Good find. Suits him.
Great watch Mo! Wear it in good health!!
Great looking piece!!
Excellent choice!
With the strength of the USD, now is the time to go watch shopping in Japan.
Would sellers not automatically raise their prices for whatever the USD/YEN is at the moment?
@ivanmejia6843 more tourists = more $$$ for everybody. If you
Ever wanted to visit Japan? Now is the time. The USD will go very far.
@ivanmejia6843 I think it's a balancing act, as they don't want to outprice the locals.
I love this channel!!
I'll be in Tokyo in a couple of weeks. Hope to meet up to buy some watches!
Amazing!
Well done Austin!
Toblerone now, hopefully next time you get a manuka honey from New Zealand! 😊
Thanks, and fingers crossed!

Great expeditionary segments + good timing Yen=157./ $/euro for cheaper currency value buying now.

Hey Austin! Why do you prefer the non- tritium 5:11 dials for these vintage models?
It just makes servicing at RSC easier. That's because if there's some problem with the tritium hands, and they insist on changing them, you'll get Luminova hands on your watch. I'm not a fan of the mismatched aesthetic of lighter hands on a dial with tritium patina.
I would like to understand what you look at in the polishing. With my naive eyes I couldn't tell in this video. thanks
