  • A couple of weeks ago one of my watchers (hi, Lori!) requested a video on my writing process. Here it is! As I say in the video, fair warning: this is mostly me (and my hands) talking (and gesturing) about elements of my writing process and my favorite tips and tricks for starting and maintaining a writing practice. This is not a haul video or a review, but I hope you'll stick around anyway! ^_^
One thing I don't go into in this video is my actual pre-writing process - noticing ideas, taking notes, putting things together, etc., the stuff that I do before the story is actually being written - how and in what media that happens. If that's something you'd like to see me do in more detail, let me know!
As promised in the video, here are some links to my favorite writing resources and tools:

I too would love to hear about your prewriting process. Thank you for these tips, they are greatly appreciated; and after we move, I will begin to incorporate them into my daily writing as well. Thanks again!

Hi Leila thanks for doing the video I enjoyed it. I would love to hear how you do your prewriting process and editing process do you end up with multiple drafts or edit and rewrite on your original. I don't know any writers but have been interested in the process because it is hard to even know where and how to begin.

Your videos offered a lot of good tips. I'm trying to get started but as you said it the fear of bringing a dream into reality and fear of not being good enough is a huge boulder.

It makes so much sense! My innermost fear is that I start, with what I think is going to become a bestseller, and then not know how to continue the story. I really hope to get a chance to read your work because I already love your writing style in your blog. 😃

I'm putting out the novelette in probably the next month or two, and I'll let you know when it's available for download! Thanks so much for liking my work - at least what you've seen so far!

Have you ever done NaNoWriMo? That helped me kill my inner editor and get my first story finished. And write more. (Mind you, now I need to take the next step.) Several of the things you mentioned reminded me of other lessons learned. And I should get back into writing something every day. Thanks for inspiring me!

Otte Deneb I've never been able to do NaNoWriMo - there isn't enough time with a full-time job and all the other life stuff going on for me to get an entire novel written in a month. If I could take that time off work, maybe. But my first novel took me a year and my second took me about 9-10 months, so I think as I practice I'll keep getting faster anyway! ^_^ I do admire people who can bang out a novel in a month, though, and at least one of my favorite novels (The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern) started out as a NaNoWriMo book.

Thank you for this. I still have all of my stories from growing up and still have plenty of ideas bouncing in my head. now just to put pen to paper again! You gave me the push I need!
