I work at a Goodwill. There are 155 separate Goodwill regions each and their own CEO. My region has the first and only college, where the students tuition is subsidized by the donations. Helms College, we have a culinary school, we have a medical assistant school. The donations cut the tuition for each student by at least a third.
I also work in a thrift store. A midwest chain. The younger generation of employees that price and sort all use eBay sold listings to check prices and price accordingly. The older employees still price off of memory and gut. So it is possible to catch them slippin. I'm in charge of pricing all media and collectables. I price lower than ebay for collectors, but high enough to price out resellers.

I work in a thrift store and I know exactly why we are charging eBay prices. We check eBay… we look at the sold and completed items and we price at the mid range from those. I think it really is as simple as, we didn’t used to know what things are worth before the ability to check it online
most of the stuff donated to thrift shops are with the intent that it is going to be a cheaper alternative for people in need, however if it is a personally owned store then of course price how you please but goodwill, and those places being ebay prices is ridiculous

@@trashcandymusic well if a family needs a place to go to get cheap clothing for their kids because they can’t afford much but then everything is overly priced they’ll have to go somewhere else or go without. The points of goodwills and salvation army’s and then organizations are to give back and have a way for the less fortunate to have a place to go for household stuff or clothes they need at an affordable price
exactly! Thats why we need to quit complaining about high prices because people accuse us too. Better to be consistent and honest. Caleb actually has often said.. " its too expensive for me since I am reselling BUT I will not shame people for the prices people ask" Like him or love him hes straight up honest with all his prices.
Not gonna lie the GameStop by my house has been getting a lot of ps3 games for the low. Some people are tired of their collection and practically giving it away. Just saying
PS3 was discontinued less than 7 years ago. Still has great titles but it will probably be a while until a lot of the games break out of the $5-10 range. Same thing happened with PS2 and PS1. Basically, buy them now!
Been buying PS 3 games when ever I can..the prices will go up in 3-5 years

went to the goodwill site and the first thing i see is "Personal Trainer cooking on the DS loose cart - 12.99 usd" that's litterly double ebay price and that's the starting bid

I'm also a collector and reseller of mainly CDs but all forms of media. I have a large collection of over 4500 CDs. The big thrift stores are definitely for profit. Goodwill, Savers/Value Village, etc. In fact, Savers is on the stock market now to invest in. Yes, the major chain thrift stores have people to look up and comp prices. Fortunately the Goodwill by me doesn't look up what I sell online, they price is all one price point.
Every once in a while you'll find them slipping. Found a copy of Echo Night and Castlevania for PS1 in the CD section for a dollar each lol.

For your skateboarding section of the convention, you should set it up like a Foot Clan club house from TMNT 1, and require anyone entering it to “join the foot clan” and wear a red headband. You could even sell the headbands as a ticket and provide drinks and snacks in that section.
Lords of Dogtown originated in Long Beach in the 70s. I live in Nor Cal and when i started skating in the 80s those guys were a big deal and still are.
To address charity shops (thrift stores for the americans) I worked at one for almost a year as voluntary and it is scummy for the most part. When I was a kid it was meant for people with little money like my family and many others who could go and buy clothes for under £10, toys for 50p to £1 even newish video games like ps1 (at the time wasn't that old yet) I got mgs1, tomb raider and oddworld for £5.
These days though they check everything remotely worth money on ebay and they look up the top price it sold for not the average or lowest and it doesn't matter what condition it is. If they get a beaten up xbox with a broken disc tray and they find a clean complete one on ebay for £60 then the charity shop will still charge £50 and chances are nothing has been tested. We are talking controllers with wrong parts or grimey as hell, cables with wires showing, games with cds scratched beyond belief and they charge almost full ebay.
Even clothes I saw like 20 of the same jackets got brought in and were priced at £89 each and not a single one has sold even to this day and they refuse to lower them.
Bare in mind all this was FREE for them.
Most of the staff don't even get a discount but the managers will often outright steal stuff or sell it on their own ebay and claim its for the company.
So yeah I'm not too fond of them any more
if it’s a thrift store just sell it for whatever will move. if it’s a pawnshop they have to sell it for 3x of the purchase price

10:24 I recently found a bunch of PS1 Resident Evil games and a long box game for $3 each at Savers. I’ve also found a first pressing of De La Souls 3 Feet High and Rising there as well last year. So things def slip through the back but I think it has more to do with the age and knowledge level of the employees.
I feel like people who work with goodwill/savers pricing sign NDAs.. never see them post anything online about the process lol.
I'm a toy hunter/collector I'd love to see a bunch of toy vendors at the Socal Retro Game Convention, definitely would drive the 10hrs to this

Thrift stores have rose in prices because of you guys, retro Rick, Phoenix, wright way, and even myself.
I’ve been to mom and pop thrifts, goodwills, and all of them now are starting to say the same thing. Video gamer UA-camrs/resellers in general, let upper management know there is stuff that is still valuable.
Therefore they are sending it to their online stores and overcharging. It been happening at my location for awhile now. You guys need to admit, nothing to be ashamed of, but you guys affect the market. Not just you, but all of us.
You don’t think you did a ripple? Come on now! And not just that riff, the pawn shops have increased as well. In my next vid…I show that. Pawn shops are now grabbing games out of cases and looking them up before you buy them, rather than just selling them at a tier price.
Video games and some of those other electronics or single stitch shirts aren’t a need. You can still get clothes and housewares for a good deal at the thrift shops. I don’t feel bad that resellers can no longer get games for $2. Yeah, it sucks if you’re in that game, but the necessities are still there for good prices.
Yeah but it then gatekeeps the poorer end just because of resellers who will do it anyway

I’m just confused who goodwill is trying to sell too? They are pricing out the resellers and also pricing out the people who go there because they can’t afford new items. And pricing things at eBay prices makes no sense , they aren’t cleaning, testing, and paying 15-20 in fees. So many times I open an overpriced electronic at goodwill just to find the battery port is corroded, thrift stores have lost their mind.
Yep you may as well just use ebay now. I very rarley go to charity shops anymore because its usually overpriced or broken

I love you guys, but listening to how little all of you know about modern gaming and console sales made my head hurt.. Lol. The Switch has way outsold PS5 overall.. The Switch is well over 100 million and the PS5 is at like 70 million. And Lies of P is one of the biggest games released last fall and was day one on Gamepass. And you DO play as Pinocchio..

And Nintendo won the 7th generation with the Wii beating out the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the PS5 has sold 50 million units total as of December 2023. Surely he didn't think they sold 50 million in a single year lol
