Interesting. There’s a medical center that had one of those Wheelock EH-EL1-R horns on those Simplex 4903-9102s, however, the majority horns were 2901-9838s. All hooked to the same panel on shown in the video.
Interesting mix of strobes and lights from the same generation. In Connecticut, you don't see light plates that often, especially not in newer systems. I bet they probably started requiring strobes early on. 4050-80's pop up every now and then, but all the 2903's I've seen go off turned out to be strobes, I've never seen a 4903-9102, and only saw two instances of AV-32's on what seemed like 70's-era systems.
Given what I've seen here, I think it's safe to say that I've seen the combination seen at 3:52 at the restroom at a hotel I've been to back in 2005, except it was on a backbox. It's the only one of its kind (that I've seen) throughout the building, as that it had somewhat of a mixed bag of alarms.
I love that classic old panel! This is a very interesting setup they got going. I'm curious on how they came to the decision to just swap out the electromechanicals for horn-only EH-EL1.. couldn't they have just swapped out the light plates for the horn/strobe versions of that same device? I'd think the amperage would actually be lower, that way. It's also super interesting that there are the strobe plate edition of that device in a few areas.
Obviously that's from when electronic horns were still fairly new and uncommon. I remember hearing somewhere in the late 80s and early 90s Simplex used to use Wheelock's EH-series horns, before Faraday began making their own in the early 90s, and now Simplex has their own electronic horn/strobes (i.e. the TrueAlerts.) Seeing those 4903 light plates used on a 4001 system reminds me of a small medical center near my city's main hospital; they originally had a Simplex 4001 system with 2901-9838 horns on those light plates. A few years back, the 4001 was replaced with a Simplex 4006 panel, but the existing devices remain intact!
@@Skyhawk1998 They were used in the mid-80s up to the mid-90s. not bad. interesting setup with Wheelock EHS-EL1's on 4903s, but nonetheless, nice to see everything still functioning as normal. Is there a reason the 4001 puts out FWR instead of filtered DC however?
I think that the 4001's power supply doesn't have a set of smoothing capacitor to filter its current output, unlike the 4002 and others. Of course, if there was an alarm during a power outage, the panel would output CC (constant current) from the batteries.
