Greetings from Vancouver Island. Was there 20 yrs ago, for an overnight trek. So good to see tourism is still strong there! So great for the families. Great video 👌
Wow!!! This is one of the best most captivating & interesting videos I have ever seen from you! What a rare treat and glimpse into a land of pure, happy people in their environment. Extremely refreshing given in the current state of affairs elsewhere. It's definitely a must visit adventure soon. Thanks STL and keep them rolling in:)
Selamat Ulang Tahun...sung by 'jamrud' one of my favs.(cover sung @23:30 )...Sumatran people are beautiful people i miss so much...but will see my 'adopted' family soon enough....Thanks for the inspiring 'vlog'.....perjalanan dengan aman saudara.
Cheers STL this place is beautiful and the people are completely charming. I would love to visit, it feels like a place you could call home. Thanks so much for finding extraordinary locations such as this, it means so much to me, God Bless.
I was there in 1992. It's changed a lot, likely in part due to the river flooding the place out. There were only 3 places to stay back then - US$4/night for the best of it. Orang up at the contact site, but we also trekked up river and a mother/baby were along side. It was a good trip.
Me and my Mom always watch together your videos! One of the best travel channel for sure! Keep up! Our next holiday is planned to Thailand just because of your videos.🙌🏼
@@SideTripLife I sure did! 😁 Besides, it’s like a fun “Where’s Waldo” except you dress better! 🤣😉 Plus, I’ve always wanted to do videos around where I live currently in beautiful Salzburg Austria 🇦🇹 so your format gives me some ideas. (Thanks) 😊
Hello from Kelowna! So happy I stumbled upon your Bukit Lawang video! I was there in 1994 to see the Orangutans...will have to convert my VHS tapes to digital and share! When I heard the Bukit Lawang song it brought back many fond memories!!!!
@HanleysJourneys Hello in Kelowna! Loved BL and yes the song too ;) '94? Yes, deffo get the conversion done and post it on YT. Btw, THIS area in Sumatra reminded me of the Okanagan: ua-cam.com/video/ZUEeF5qIH3o/v-deo.html
Hi Mr. STL, totally enjoyed this vid beautiful Bukit Lawang, what a treat to visit, that tree reminded me of Cathedral Forest on the north tip of Vancouver Island, so awesome. Must comment on your guides, they were incrdible and funny. and to see the Oratan priceless. Love your hotel, great views and so peaceful. Love your commentary as always. thank you for sharing your experience!!
Amazing how you can get the wrong idea about people. Edi came across as a bit of an annoying guy in your last video. What a great guy he is. Appogises Edi. Oh and may I say, this has been your best side trip by far.
Hiya STL. I do love that room. Have you ever forgotten and left a window open? Love the humor of the guides. Gorgeous trees. What a great experience. The rafting looked great fun. KFC drive-through. Haha. Always great information. I wonder if she came trying to find food. How amazing to be so close. Beautiful place. Lovely people. Love watching your adventures. Always good vibes. Friendly nighttime vibes. Great video. Have a great week. Thank you for sharing.
@@SideTripLife My daughter turned 24 this weekend. How that can be when I am only 19. 😆🤣My firstborn is getting married this weekend. Emotional times. Have a great week
Thanks for this. What time of year is best for a visit? Leaving the UK to visit Thailand for 2 weeks next Saturday but your Sumatra series has really got me considering visiting as my next holiday destination.
Being more equatorial than Thailand dry/wet season is less defined. Looking at rainfall charts Feb-Mar and Jun-July have less rainfall but even in wetter months you'll get sun.
Hi Christian, in another comment below you were asking for suggestions about moving? My only advice would be to firstly visit before making any long term decisions (of course). If all goes well, then to gauge whether a place might fit your lifestyle, try a couple months at the desired destination before making any commitments. UA-camrs like me can make it all look super appealing but daily life may not measure up to an edited 15 min vlog... So have a great trip, take it slow, hope it works out and turns into a great move! Cheers! STL
Lovely video - so nice to see Bukit Lawang so full of life post-pandemic. I know they did it really rough there during COVID. I'm sure it was amazing to see those orangutans up close at your accommodation, but I find it so sad. They are so at risk from contact with people - particularly babies- that I always feel nervous when I see them coming into human areas and interacting. Just beautiful though! Look forward to the next one.
I also had mixed feelings seeing the mum and baby in the outer guesthouse area. Selfishly delighted and somewhat concerned all at once. Hopefully this remains a rare occurrence. Enjoying your vids as well guys, all the best. STL
Some take 3 day treks and LOVE it, I only took a day trek (wuss lol;) But even taking a day trek I managed to fill 3 thoroughly enjoyable days. To link up other Sumatra sidetrips, Volcano's, Waterfalls, Lakes, pls see prev vids in this series.

Was quite surprised and thrilled to see her almost outside my door (and a bit concerned to be honest). Fortunately mum and baby made it back to the adjacent jungle but again a bit concerned it's us encroaching, not her.
It's a beautiful place, but sad for the urangutans and other animals that wonder into the cottage area which was once forest. Close contact with humans can expose them to many diseases. Sad..sad sad😢
Yep. Ideally need a decent camera and various lens especially for difficult shots (like Orangutans 30m up a tree against poor light). However, that gets expensive, considering it.
@SideTripLife Very true and I'm sure lugging around more stuff isn't ideal either, but perhaps consider it an investment to grow the channel. Maybe start a Patreon?, could help with some of the expense. You have great content in beautiful locations and it would be awesome to see it in all its true splendor. I tell everyone thinking of traveling to that part of the world to check you out. Cheers
