Let’s just twist the wires together for the flame sensors and with a bit of luck they’ll be back in a few months for another repair. If this guy is busy just repairing these units then there is something seriously wrong here, could be they are made in the shit hole next door. Just sayin!!!

What do ducks have to do with a water heater
Gas valve (solenoid) stuck open after water was shut off because of faulty solenoid or membrane switch which measuring water flow. Without fresh cooling water, flame boils water to steam and melt heat exchanger. This cause fire and flood in bathroom at the same time.

It didn't look like it had one in the first place
in such gas burners, the safety system works, with electrical signal .the conductive plasma(flame) closes the circuit from ground(burner) to the second ,longer, spark plug(ion probe) to theignition box . if no flame the gas is stoped, a time is passed ,and then retry.. the amount of work for such short life expansion is not worth in most developed countries,,,, well.>... THATS CAPITALISM..sorry. I divert..
