So tired of influencers moving to LA then saying it’s horrible… what you described sounds like Hollywood, or Santa Monica. There’s so much culture in LA & transplants tend to stay near the “fake” areas.
There’s also many smaller towns in CA / LA county.. I live closer to the mountains, and winters feel like real winters.
It’s more likely that you just didn’t find a genuine group of people & didn’t like it enough to explore smaller towns. There’s plenty of reasons people may not like CA, reasonably (I prefer New York)… but the people who use dumb reasons like it looks like a “movie set” is such a cop out lol

You should try Tampa-St Pete and Naples. Both have a nice safe, vibrant street life. Naples is small but beautiful and is especially nice for biking through the sea front neighborhoods. Go over to Park Shore to swim - very nice.
