This RTX 4070 Ti has a Trick up its Sleeve. Why is this Ada GPU Special?

  • The RTX 4070 Ti is a much maligned GPU by reviewers. However, after spending time with this GPU and understanding its power and efficiency, at the right price and for specific users, this could be the best Ada GPU this generation!
    And even the new M2 Pro and M2 Max GPUs can't compete with its performance.

      It’s why I went with the 6950xt. I would’ve gladly picked up the 4070 ti for 650 or 700. No way am I paying more than 800 usd for 70 series card. Especially a cut down one.

      @@bentrinker1937 Once AMD has better enhancements like DLSS w/Frame Gen, Reflex, and better Ray Tracing. That would make something like a 6950XT a better comparison. $100 less for less performance in everything but Warzone doesn’t seem like a great deal either. If the 6950XT were maybe $499-$549 that would be a much more affordable comparison to the 4070 Ti

    I have a 4070ti on an NR200P and it's honestly great, it fit perfectly fine, temps are good, it undervolts well... it's honestly probably as good as I can get for a SFF build.
    And seriously... people will either scoff at spending over $1000, or go all the way to the 4090... in that sense the 4070ti is right at the brink of what some people (like me) will say "fuck it, I want to play my games" 😅

      Yea, I mean i had a GTX 1080 which was 599 @ launched upgraded to a 4070Ti which is 799. 200 dollar difference and a insane upgrade as i get to play my games now @ 1440p with high refresh rates. That's kinda how i look at it i look at where im at the current moment with what i spent and where im going to and what the difference in $$$ and performance and is it worth the jump. Took me 6 years to upgrade the GPU lol
      Everyone wont see it that way but it makes sense. And my next upgrade it would have to be the same jump. I know someone mentioned the 5070Ti could cost 1,000? The performance would have to be NICE for that to be a option. If its a jump from the 4070 Ti to 4080 ..No

    dude, this is insane efficiency. I have been looking for a new card to replace my RTX2060Super and been eyeing the 4070ti but was wondering how far down I can take the power consumption and still get good performance and according to your tests I can see that going down to the 60-70% I can save about 100 watts and still have good performance. Power consumption matters for me here in the EU as prices this winter were crazy. I am only gaming 1440p and I have an I9-9900k, so I am wondering if I would need to much more upgrades besides the GPU, would the CPU still be viable for some time until arrow lake arrives or would it be recommended to upgrade that one as well?

      The i9-9900k is still very capable. As long as you get the frame rates you need in the games you play, hang onto that thing for another year. Plus DDR5 will finally be noticeably faster over any system with DDR4.

    I currently have an RTX 2070 that's 4 years old now. With the games I'm currently playing that's not a problem, I get at least 60 FPS on Ultra settings. With Starfield coming out in September I want a card that won't bottleneck anywhere. My specs: Maximus XI Formula LGA1151 Gen2 Z390 with Corsair Vengeance (4x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz . I've been wanting the 4070 TI, but at $800 I've put that off for now. Is 12gb of vram going to future proof this for another say 4 years? • @ImaMac-PC
      @ImaMac-PC  11 місяців тому +2

      I did a couple of videos when the 4080 was announced and released on what the GPU should cost. The 4080 at $800-$900 would be range I would pay however, unless you look for open box items, the prices today are not even close. For NVIDIA to drop the price, AMD would have to drop the price of the 7900XTX to $800 or lower and I don' t see that happening this year. Without any real competition in that price range, I am not hopeful we will see any price drops soon. You didn't mention the resolution you were targeting. The 4070ti is not really a 4k GPU due to limited VRAM and memory bandwidth (504GB/s) . My 3090 with 24GB of VRAM and higher memory bandwidth (936GB/s) will perform far better in 4yrs.

    They push the wattage for a little more performance for a few reasons. One is that the lowest quality silicon will still perform well. Another is to look good in the charts against AMD. People look at performance charts first, and power usage is secondary to that. Also, I realize that small form factor pc's are cool, but I would never personally use a case so small as to limit my options because that's exactly what it does.

    I have both a 4080 and a 4090 (for work) and I can confirm both have similar power limit sweet spots.
    I was inspired to check because of a Der Bauer video exploring the same angle and was also baffled how they push the wattage for 3 to 5 percent performance gains.
    When ran around a 60-70% power limit, the cards stay cool and quiet and make you wonder why the need for such a massive cooling solution and the infamous power adapter.
    The Asus Strix is so heavy that it can damage your slot with a single bad installation (cards are so big you have improper visibility), you are almost forced to go for a vertical mount.
    The Gigabyte models tend to do better as, due to their plastic construction, they weigh way less and are slightly smaller (they are still massive and heavier than their Ampere counter parts though).
    I'm annoyed that I'm forced to undervolt/power limit the cards as soon as I take them out of the box so they are sustainable for work situations but I assume this is way better than paying the robbery prices they are asking for the A series pro GPUs.
    Hopes this helps somebody.

    All hardware manufacturers are pushing this gen to it's absolute maximum. The new Ryzen 7000 series was the same, you must turn on eco mode. Intel was leading the way IMO to this ridiculous power consumption and temps... The problem is they optimize their products for uneducated US consumer and the general review process of their products. 5% gains in the benchmarks may be small, but noticeable factor. While 33% increased power consumption is big, but vastly ignored.
    IMO, it's extremely funny, that the west is supposedly "going green", but nobody cares about electricity cost, as long as it's cheap. Of course, it's just a pose. Even in this video, the concern was not building power efficient PC that makes sense, but fitting in small form factor. A reasonable PC should be 100-150W CPU and 200-250W GPU. RTX 4070 Ti is actually 4070, and should have been 220W like the previous gen. But why not overclock it to the max, and brand it as 4080... That's the NVIDIA thinking. I personally like this card as a product, don't like how they are trying to sell it. Therefore - I'm not buying it, at least until it reaches reasonable price for what it is.

    Something i dont get..seems all the reviewers are comparing the 4070Ti's MSRP to the launch MSRP of the last gen..to decide of its a good value. but the problem is last gen yards are currently not selling anywhere close to their msrp. a 3080 currently still costs over 1k. so....while the MSRP may be higher than last gen's launch MSRP...its still hundreds of dollars cheaper than buying last Gen cards of similar or lower performance. it basically makes it pointless to purchase last gen and very reasonable purchase for anyone in the market for a new GPU who doestn want to pay 1k for reasonable performance. I bought a PC with a RX 5700 in 2020 ..always knew i was gonna upgrade but to me, performance to price ratio for upgrading wasn worth until now. yeah, i wish it was cheaper...but i wish ALL the cards were cheaper. lol.

    12GB of vram is more than enough, many games use on 1080p and 1440p use below 4GB with no rt even with current gen games and rt is slightly aboove 6GB, anything above 6 or 7GB in raster performance is engine/optimization issue, so 4070 ti is very good card, i dont think so that in entine 9th gen era games in raster perf will use above 7GB, it just seems unrealistic, with rt maybe, but for entire 9th gen this card will be more than enough

      Gpu got some snap @ 1440p. What's going to be the worst is when a 4080 Ti drops lol then the people saying "you should of bought a 4080 haha i can see it now...
      For 1440p and high refresh rates the 4070 Ti is like what the 970 use to be for 1440 back then it was the sweet spot but this was when games wasnt demanding and 1440p was a bit ezier to run tho its still not as hard but games has gotten a little tougher then you add on 120+ hz

      Needs to be vs what it is which is different. Still the 4070 Ti is still that card. Been playing @ 1440p / 165hz no problem and im not a fan of amd drivers so thats out the water which i was on a GTX 1080 so yea the Ti running nice

    Why do they bother spending so much extra power to gain that last 5% when finalising the card specs? It seems well beyond the efficiency curve
    They could make the cards much smaller with smaller cheaper coolers
    Why is the 5% so valuable ??

      I don't know. It almost seems they follow the thought that as long as they are physically big, then they can charge big money!

    No chance for 4070ti: too narrow memory bus, too less memory.

    4080 is more efficient than this card, I undervolted/underclocked my FE model to 2700mhz flat at 925mV and it draws 215W under max load and beats this card at the same wattage & shaves off a 100W from the rated TDP for virtually the same performance compared to the stock clock at 2745mhz (Full power). I promise you if you can get your hands on a 4080 it would really blow your mind with the efficiency.

    Its honestly good card. No way I pay double for 4090 and 4080 is only little better.

      Exactly. 4080 has around 25% better perf for 50% upsell. No deal at all.

    It’s trash the Memory Bus is 192 MB/ s when it SHOULD BE 256 MB/s (You’re being CHARGED MORE FOR LESS)

    • @DETERMINOLOGY
      @DETERMINOLOGY Рік тому

      You should learn a bit more about gpus. Memory bus isnt the whole story. Theres cards that has 256 bus and lower gb/s so its more to it then that.
      The card as a whole together is what makes up the full speed
      But if they was to put 256 the price would of been 899 or more

    Haha lol, everyone is under powering their op mofos for less heat/consumption/stability. 🔥 100w for 15fps tradeoff, that is a lot of gains!

      The problem is what choice do you really have. You can hold out only so long and eventually you need a GPU for your PC.

  • @TheInstinctWithinV2
    @TheInstinctWithinV2 Рік тому

    So here's the funny thing. The GPU market is even worse outside of the US. We have to pay for the tolling costs, which for some countries isn't that bad, but for others, like myself, anything surpassing roughly 500 USD basically adds 2-3 hundred to the cost of the item. So let's say you have a 600 USD card to sell me. That now costs me 800-900 USD after it's been shipped across.
    Because of this, I don't know whether to laugh or cry about Americans complaining about a couple of hundred dollars. Even the cheap cards cost me 500-700 USD. The price for a 4070 ti is 1000 USD. The price for a 4080 is 1400 USD. 4090 is 2000 USD. By this point I'm sure you'd say something like buy an older series card. That would work, and I would except they aren't in stock.
    It's rough out here for an aspiring PC gaming enthusiast. Intel's Arc cards are actually in a good price range, but I am very unsure about them. I know it's a meme, but maybe it's best to just stick it out and wait some more.

    • @ImaMac-PC
      @ImaMac-PC  Рік тому

      Those prices are really bad. Wait if you can. The GPUs are not selling well and after a couple of quarters, they will have to respond. Likely second half of this year.

    Yeh but you get DLS 3.0 😂😂
    They did it for money and benchmarks. The hardly improved the card over the 4070.

    • @ImaMac-PC
      @ImaMac-PC  Рік тому

      Yea. At the target resolution of 1440p, the 4070 will be like a 3080 and the 4070 Ti more like a 3090 Ti. Not much differentiation for $200.
