  • Here some Shikaruna vinyl toys are being painted by hand using traditional paint masks. We also take a look inside the shop/studio. For more indie toy coverage, visit my site: kaijukorner.blogspot.com

    This pisses me off. The people who facilitate this work have no concern for those workers' health or lives! Paint on toys HAS to be solvent-based, otherwise it will wash off and make the company look bad--as if this video does not.
    Bottom line: all those workers are being poisoned. One day, they will go to their doctor, and she/he will tell them "you have cancer".

    What type of paint do they use? Is it water based (water borne) or is it solvent based like automotive? This video is AWESOME btw.

    Did you render the 3D model yourself? Or did you outsource it?

      +Joshidites servellonacles Could be V Color, which is a popular type of paint used on vinyl toys.

      +Joshidites servellonacles He has a giant Mr.Color box so I'm willing to bet it's either that, VColor, or FOK

      I've never heard of FOK. What is it?

    • @CandieBolton
      @CandieBolton 8 років тому

      +Joshidites servellonacles FOK has a very similar formula to VColor, but it comes in different color variations and is sold in big quart size cans so it is much more economical.

      Good to know. do you know how to mix your own vinyl? is there a kind of vinyl that doesn't need to be put in an oven to harden?

    I think they're brass.

      In the video they look like vacuum-formed plastic that's been cut into a stencil and sprayed with goldtone paint, but if you were close to them, you had a better view.

    How do they make the masks?

      They're handmade by master craftsmen - out of brass, I believe.

      i think it made from plastic, thermo forming method (vacuum heaten plastic sheet over the master model), then cutout the pattern
