One has to be completely deaf or emotionless not to like this song. Enchanting intro and outro, great mystical eastern melodies, solo and chord progressions from outa space, Dio at his best, keyboards to the point, intergalactic groove etc
Best song I have ever heard performed live!
Couldnt agree more right up tgere with Stargazer and A Light in the Black for me its flawless
Rainbow- Man on the Silver Mountain
to me, this is about as great as stargazer, dio is an amazing storyteller...
Totally agree
Yes, it is metal with arabic rythms!! I do like it! It's different! Rainbow never dissapoints 😎
It's using phrygian scales. That makes it sound arabic/oriental. That's whats happening here. It doesn't necessarily have to do something to do with "arabic rythms" per se, even though there are rythmic sections that are prevalent in oriental culture.
@@Taygun89 Actually it's Phrygian Dominant not Phrygian. Phrygian Dominant is not only an Arabic scale its a medieval Arabic one. Remember Blackmore's a medieval musician and also was light years ahead of other musicians using medieval scales as early as his Purple days when other musicians could barely get of the Blues scale.
May I introduce you to Solitude Aeturnus?
Oh, so you like metal with arabic rhythms? Then you NEED to listen to closure by Opeth, you will be amazed
@@victor_. Myrath great tunisian band
RAINBOW= A band WAY ahead of their time.
Not only Dio but Ritchie Blackmore...he´s a true guitar legend
@Evan Bolinger some creative people are complete control freaks
@@andre99249 you have officially won the UA-cam comment section for all eternity
Evan Bolinger like u know him
🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
there are many yngwie malmsteens out there but there is only one ritchie blackmore
Yes Vin, Ronnie James Dio, greatest Singer who ever walked, talked and sung on the face of the earth.
He was pretty damn good, Black Sabbath's best songs were with Dio
Well said amen, The best singer Who ever walked, talked and sung ön The face of earth, Ronnie James dio
nobody can make that claim.there are a handful of truly great rock singers,an elite list, and Dio is obviously on it,along with paul rodgers, gillan, plant, freddie, daltrey, bruce dickinson and lowell george.
my opinion, and only my opinion, yours will be different but if we all liked the same thing, what a boring world this would be.
@@TheCornishCockney But, but... Jarkko just made that claim. So he could. He was able to. :) ... Btw.: I agree mostly with your list, even though it's missing many women who could well give the list a run for the top 10 posts. And of course I agree that opinions will vary. Mine falls with Jarkko, though. And I miss Ronnie, whom I saw twice (with Black Sabbath on the Dehumanizer tour and with Heaven & Hell on their last tour).
@@fryke Point taken, but women were omitted from my list (and i forgot to add stevie marriott,a fantastic soulful rock singer) not for sexist reasons but that the greatest voice of all time, again my opinion,is a woman,Miss Ella Fitzgerald.
Female rock singers are few and far,the really good ones anyway, so best female voices tend to be the balladeers and the classic soul and jazz singers.Aretha would be in ANYONES top 10,same with Adele, but different genre's.
All the fools sailed away- dio
A great song based off of Tolkien if you didn't know.
Yeah, this song is awesome! :D
One of my favorites :)
We really need some Rainbow feat: Dio, Man on the Silver Mountain.
Dio Rainbow in the dark
@@charlespetsch2167 That too.
its not really Featuring Dio, Dio was in the band lol.
@@BlasphemousVerses True, but ANY band that Dio was in was "essentially" featuring Dio.
Rainbow - the temple of the king
Rainbow was a precursor to metal. They are considered among many as the roots of power metal. Now that you have heard Gates of Babylon and Stargazer, you should check out Terrot Woman.
*Tarot Woman. And I couldn't agree more. :)
The Drummer your looking for is the late great Cozy Powell..check out his take on 1812 Overture or 633 Squadron
Or Dance With The Devil.
R.I.P. Cozy. You’ll be always remembered.
Second that!
Yes, Mr. Powell greatest drummer after John Bonham.
At the time, no one was making music like this. After this, every metal band had to have their “Egyptian “ song.
40 Years old...blown away, when i first heard it back at the release day....and still get goosebombs....definattly one of Dios best Vocals/Lyrics ever....10/10 Points...."Stargazer" and "Long Live R'n'R " are two of the best Rock LPs ever released....and Rainbow's best Line Up ever!....a SIX from Sori ?????? ......a SEVEN from Vin ???? .....unbelievable!
Ritchie Blackmore's solo is EPIC! Nobody plays like that!
Nobody.
One day I will make a list of the songs that one of you gave a 6 and compare it with a list that includes songs that got 9 or 10, and it's going to look pretty "interesting."
Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion, but then again a blind man can look at Van Gogh' s paintings and say he doesn't like them.
Love you too :)
Vin, Sori. You must connect the dots eventually. You have already broken Deep Purple down, whose guitarist is Ritchie Blackmore. You have broken down Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell. Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore and he recruited Dio. Then, Dio departed from Rainbow to be in Black Sabbath. The history of metal is full with unexpected turns.
Now that's a classic!
We need the full reaction/review of King Diamond’s Abigail album, right?
Now that you’ve heard one song off that album, you’ll want to get the whole story 😉
I know you’ll gonna like it.
”The birth of Abigail would soon be realized. The second coming of a devil in disguise”...
babylon is the source of all the ancient pagan religions and mystery schools.
when nimrod died, his mother semiramis deified him. (declared him to be a god)
this led to the dispersion of mother/son cults throughout the ancient world -- isis and horus in egypt, venus and cupid in rome, etc.
Temple of the king
It sounds mediterranean because it's played in the phrygian mode. It's still metal, albeit somewhat mellower than the standard power chord driven metal. Much more intricate basslines and drumming than a standard heavy metal song of that time.
Isn't it Phrygian Dominant?
The verse is in harmonic minor .
It's his famous snake chamer scale you classical trained musicians can tell us.
the next Ronnie James Dio reaction should be: Heaven And Hell - Bible Black
They never did heaven and hell? That's pretty shocking.
They haven't done the band Heaven And Hell yet, as of 27 Dec 18.
Rainbow was more just hard rock, Ritchie Blackmore was never a "metal" guy, although some like to classify Deep Purple as one of the first metal bands. Heavy blues-rock is more fitting. Some early Rainbow is a touch "metal", mainly when Dio was in the band. His voice alone kind of pushes it in that direction, but they got much more poppy sounding after Dio.
RIchie is not a blues player, he's classically trained, and the influences you hear are classical and OLD ENGLISH style, like Renaissance style playing.
Paradise Lost - Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us
The sounds that you hear at very beginning is a synthesizer, the GOTHIC sound is a keyboard using what are called Vox or Vocal or Choir patches, for the most part. This is classical, gothic and Middle Eastern influence. Richie Blackmore, the guitarist is a classically trained guitarist very much influenced by Medieval/Gothic style. This is 4 musicians and one vocalist. Check them doing it live, you can youtube the live versions, there weren't lots of overdub layering. This is PURE ROCK, Rainbow is a collection of WORLD CLASS musicians, many rotational.
Nice pick! Old school rock is the best.
I think you're missing the obvious choice for drums the late John Bonham from led Zeppelin
Absolutely
Ian paice would be a good choice as well
Probably because they've heard very little Zeppelin for fear of copy right strikes they can't really do them on the channel. They could listen to them offline though and should.
@@catmanduu66 PORTNOY would be a great choice also!
Cozy Powell.
I like that you don't interrupt
Bolt Thrower - When Cannons Fade
Honourable mention to Bathory - A Fine Day To Die
Killchain
David Stone played Keyboards on this track which I think is what you were confusing with guitar lines. Blackmore holds his own in following the keys on sections and of course the solo. I don’t consider rainbow heavy metal nor did Blackmore, certainly hard rock especially for the period Dio was with them. But then again in the 70’s no one was caught up in naming genres, particularly “heavy metal”. It was an 80’s born slang
JayDeeSG rainbow was The Godfather for power metal
At the time this came out, no one - no one, was playing the guitar like this, like Ritchie Blackmore.
Your long discussions on song topics are always very interesting and insightful, even though I don't always find time to watch the whole thing! But I'll always watch all of it when you react to a song I really love. Like this one!
I'm not sure if you guys have ever listened to the original Jesus Christ Superstar recording from '70. Deep Purple lead singer Ian Gillian as Jesus. Worth a listen. Also Quadraphenia from The Who. Two really good rock operas.
this is what metal sounded like in the 70s, halfway between hard rock and metal.
iron maiden and metallica came afterwards.
Dave Lombardo or Bill Ward for your drummer.
Man on the silver mountain!!!!
I asked before, but I really would suggest Kill The King by Rainbow, the story is interesting and the guitar solo is one of the greatest of all time, oh yeah, and Dio is on vocals :D
Mob Rules by Black Sabbath, with Ronnie James Dio on vocals
The ‘Live Evil’ version . . Much heavier, much better.
By the way, Rainbow is already not exactly a metal band, it's a hard rock band with some progressive touch. However, they can be considered one of the bands that gave birth to metal with their sound and style.
Fathers of Power Metal.
Raymond King exactly
Utku Hasan they where the first power metal band
I think you are not ready to see the Gates of sweet hell BABYLON
I can't see how there are ppl disliking this masterpiece, oh well...
Iron Maiden - Alexander The Great - - - - -btw nice reaction - - - ---- 💀🤘💀🤘 --- 💀
It doesn't get any better than this.
No not just guitars. I believe the German philharmonic orchestra was on this track. Rainbow. It simply doesn’t get any better. Long Live Rock n Roll. 👊
The Piper Never Dies - Edguy
This wil blow em away when they finally do IT!! If you are reading this Vin And Sori i promise you Will love it! A 10.
@@gabrielfarias6273 I've been thinking about that too. One can only hope, but if they ate doing this stuff full-time, perhaps they can'y afford to take requests without payment 😅
Yes they read the comments... The suggestions are supposed to be done on The website but last i checked it was a complete mess.
Awesome! I have been waiting for someone to do a reaction on this great tune about accountability... great job guys. Performance wise all musicians killed it. Vocal wise, RJD sang the f**ck of this song. The power, grace, melodic sensibilities. Truly amazing. The guitar solo by Blackmore was perfect and expressed his mastery over the instrument. Great tune. Great album. Great band.
Hail, the lurker horde! Watching everyday but hardly commenting or interacting! Thousands strong.
Interesting song. Nice change.
Congrats on 80 000 subs!!
This is the best Rainbow Song Ever with the best guitar solo Ritchie Blackmore ever played , freaking brilliant
Anthrax - Keep it in the Family, In My World, Indians, Inside Out and What Doesn't Die
In the End, Dio/Dimebag tribute video
@@leonardspinazzola6714 Yeesss!!!
Oh and another great reaction of course and welcome to the wonderful world of 🌈 Rainbow.
You guys just heard one of the most sophisticated rock pieces ever written
Guys, it's horrible how the fantastic outro was cut in the version you found. You missed it!
Rainbow - Stargazer
They already did that.
Ok
!!!!EPIC!!!!
Something that might be right up your alley. Iced Earth - Question of heaven
Rainbow were never a metal band just hard rock.
Iron Maiden - Revelations
Some suggestions for your drummer:
Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad, Dethklok)
Francesco Paoli (Fleshgod Apocalypse)
Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)
Hellhammer (Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Arcturus)
Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Hellyeah)
Mario Duplantier (Gojira)
Daniel Erlandsson (Arch Enemy)
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
Frost (Satyricon)
Inferno (Behemoth)
Commando (Morbid Angel)
Alex Van Halen (Van Halen)
Buddy Rich
...
Agree with Gene Hoglan suggestion, how about Pete "Commando" Sandoval.
@@screamingscarecrow4251 Never heard of him :/

ahhhhh my fav Rainbow song.....
Iron Maiden - Caught Somewhere in Time (studio)
humanity needs 1000 + years of evolution to fully admire Rainbow.
Christmas is coming up soon. Listen to King Diamond-No Presents for Christmas.
Andrew Martinez
One of the best alternative songs for Christmas.
I view you guys a alot because you guys breakdown songs in a amazing way that i never seen anyone break it down you guys are amazing
One of my first ever favor hard rock-metal songs in my life... Well done
I’d bet vin and sori favorite movie is Heaven is for real!!!
Finally! Someone reacts to this song. This is rock fantasy. It's Rainbow, which should explain it.
Arabic tune. Love it! The riff is ofcourse totally stolen from the Jesus Christ Superstar musical - Heaven on their minds. But who cares!
Wow, I'm just now considering how expensive it probably was to produce this records
Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys 🎃
One of rock's all time MASTERPIECES! MASTER CLASS!
WASP - Chainsaw Charlie. A song about music industry you should listen.
I'd rather hear the Headless Children or Wild Child myself. WASP would be cool though.
Nowadays, some band's entire sound is based off of this type of sound, or at least highly influential in some of it's songs. Orphand Land, Myrath, Therion and so on, there's a lot of bands nowadays that have utilized the same elements that are found in this song. In 1978, there wasn't a whole lot of this, like there is today. Back then this was more unique than it is today, way more.
Rainbow - Temple of the king
MASTERPIECE!!! Jesus, what a KILLER song!!!
Neurosis - Locust Star (live version), A Season in the Sky, The Tide, Sun that Never Sets or Stones From the Sky
The Ocean - Anthropocentric
Bolzer - Hero
And a new one from left field
Ramshackle Glory - Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of Your Fist
Sori..try Jeff Wayne's Musical version of War Of The Worlds 1975, with some great Rock names like Justin Hayward ( singer of Moody Blues) Phil Lynott (basssplayer/singer of Thin Lizzy) Chris Thompson ( Singer of Manfred Mann's Earth Band )
HA! Sori, my mother use to count the rafters and people's heads in church to make the time go quickly also!
I consider this one of the three greatest songs ever. Totally perfect. Cinematic...
A friend introduced me to Rainbow when I was very young. I immediately got hooked up to Dio's voice and Ritchies guitar sound.
Disma - Towards the Megalith;
Deathspell Omega - Abscission
Getting close to Christmas time.
Trans Siberian Orchestra- Carol Of The Bells official video if it doesn't get blocked. Or as it was called in Savatage Christmas Eve Sarajevo Dec 24th same song
Never clicked so fast!
The Black Dahlia Murder - The Window, The Lonely Deceased, Deathmask Devine, Abysmal, Closed Casket Requiem, I Will Return, Denounced Disgraced, Crucifed in Cruciform, Nocturnal, Funeral Thirst, Miscarriage, Dave Goes to Hollywood, Statutory Ape Moonlight Equilibrium.
Please give any of those songs a listen.
Long live Rock n Roll is the best album of all time. It has been my favourite album since I first heard it in 1985 when I was 12 years old. I have been waiting 36 years for something to come along and topple it, but it hasn’t happened yet and I don’t think it ever will.
SABATON - Night Witches
Nightwish - Shudder Before The Beautiful (Live @Wembley Arena)
Gojira - Of Blood And Salt (feat. Devin Townsend & Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah))
I still don't understand how you love DIO so much, and haven't yet heard Bible Black. Please react to Bible Black by Heaven and Hell.
Sori was just not feeling it. That meh face was so strong.
Like Stargazer, this is an excellent example of Dio's trademark stoicism. His lyrics consistently advocate careful vigilance. Yes, be strong, but be careful; your power will corrupt you if you're not.
Perhaps the clearest example of this is in the Black Sabbath song "Too Late", but you find it throughout is catalogue.
I have never thought about it like a song from a musical, but it makes some sense, i also dont like musicals but love this song though.
The swirling sounds were likely created by some flanging effect on top of the synth and strings. There were real strings on this song played by the Bavarian String Ensemble which can clearly be heard which adds alot to the production values. The guitar solo is really fantastic, the musicians on this album are all fantastic and makes it a magical piece, i would like to mention the legendary Bob Daisley on bass for the great bass lines and of course my all time favorite singer Ronnie James Dio.
Just so you know .. this band belonged to blackmore, the lead guitarist for deep purple, and the one you wanted to know who played in the child in time solo. Same guy
One singer four bands
Lost Horizon - Denial of fate
Crystal eyes - Confession of the maker
Heed - Ashes
Harmony - What If
Rainbows are beautiful........
So is this track!....
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise + Fields of Desolation (LIVE Tyrants of The Rising Sun)
This band was a rock/metal supergroup. This is some of the best keyboard you'll ever hear. And then, of course, there's Blackmore with the on-time, off-balance, dissonant solo.
This is metal at its finest!! How can someone doesn't like this is beyond me....it was made before most of us were even born!! No computer, no DAW, Everything analog. .Not a single band these days won't be able to write something like this.
W.A.S.P - Heaven's hung in black
I saw Rainbow on this tour ... long live rock and roll tour in 1978 at the Royal Oak Music Theatre
The drummer you are looking for is John Bonham from Led Zeppelin.
his "fav" band is now Mgla, so Darkside would do as well. I absolutely adore Bonzo, but darkside has such an amazing talent with unique creative techniques(check out the new album by Kriegsmachine, moreover the song Residual Blight is an excelent example) which is excatly what made Bozno the best drummer of all time.
With Dimebag, Hetfield and Burton? They need a metal drummer, my vote would be Mario Duplantier from Gojira.
