On the up side, the video you watched here, includes the corrections provided by the errata. The problem was with the rule book, but I worked with Portal to ensure that I had those correction included here. That said, thanks for checking out the video!

Thank you so much for this. After pouring over this rulebook for a week, I finally had a generally idea of how to play and this video answers most of my questions. I still have a few though, and hopefully you can clear them up for me. 1) With regards to the Marksmen's volley, does each set only fire once at a particular rampart? Using your example, would the rightmost wall and tower fire at the opposite rampart with a strength of 3? Or would they be inactive since their attack was aimed at the previous rampart? 2) Just to be clear about the rules for breaching the stronghold, the advantage has to be at least a single point higher than the combined strength of the UNITS at that wall, before resolving losses? If, for example, the advantage wipes out all of the defender units, but there is no further advantage points to be resolved, the stronghold is not breached? 3) You say that the two wall pieces adjacent to the gate area are NOT adjacent to each other even though there appears to be a bridge connecting the two, correct? Also, a unit can move from one wall section to a neighboring wall section or neighboring tower, but can a marksman move from a tower to a neighboring tower? Great work and thanks again.

It would be nice to have a video explaining the secret plan cards more. One of the cards in a game I played mentioned a carpenter and said it was unusable for the negative of the card but didn’t make much sense. I would like to see a run through and explanation of those cards.
Hey Jesse, thanks for the interest. I have to make choices about how detailed I'll get in each video, and that's a level of detail beyond where I would want to go - especially as individual card effects can be quite varied and have so many possible interactions with all the other cards. At that level of detail, if problems come up, it's often only the publisher who can rally give an official answer.
I was very glad to see that they got the best to teach this game. This one is one of my favorites of all time! I was a little nervous at the idea of streamlining it, but wow...looks to be an improvement for sure. It looks like a lot, but the game, like most of Ignacy's games, are driven by thematics. There has never been a better hybrid of Euro and Ameritrash. It's a brilliant design and no one could have taught it better!
A lot of demand for a game-play series of this one. Pace yourself Mr. Smith if you decide to do this as by the length of the instruction video alone you and Pep could be here for hours. (sends extra coffee and a pair of sleeping bags) You might need em :)

One more question: the Errata shows a diagram of marksman movement. It looks like they can move from tower to tower? Instead of tower to wall to tower.

Can invaders move anywhere during a turn? For example. Can my goblin who is at a foreground move directly to a wall in the same turn? Or does it have to move to a rampart, next turn, then rampart to wall. Etc

Does it require to: a- destory two wall components on single section b- destory any two wall components in single turn c- destory wall components in two different locations ( i.e. destory 4 wall components) 4- What if invader destory one wall component section in turn, and then defender rebuilt it, the the invader destory another wall section later. Is the objevtive completed now ?

The swap spaces action (moving around the stronghold) is not quite clear. You mentioned that it can be done between two adjacent spaces but in the rule book it reads: " Instead of moving to a free space, a Unit may swap places with another Unit anywhere on the board". Thematically speaking, the marksmen in the tower are at a higher location so they can shoot farther.
Question. Do the invaders have to move all your Invaders from the Ramparts to the Walls before you can move Invaders from the Foreground to the Rampart. Or can they stay there and, if there is room, just move Invaders from the Foreground to that Rampart? I know the order of movement is Rampart to Walls, Foreground to Rampart then Invaders to Foreground. I hope this makes sense. I think what I'm trying to ask is. Can you leave Invaders on a Rampart then load Rampart up with Invaders from the Foreground?

A good question. It's been awhile since I shot this, and I don't have my copy handy, so I can't say with confidence. My memory tells me that it just sits there and blocks the space, but that's likely not the authoritative answer you'd be looking for!
One thing I found a little unclear in the rules: when you place tokens, traps, orders, rituals - tokens which might have bluffs - are they choosen by the user playing them or are they picked randomly from the stack?
Are the invader's order tokens returned to the defender at the end of the turn? Can they reuse them in future turns, or are they removed from the game after they are used once?
I'm a little confused about the minimum time tokens the defender gets at the beginning of the game/round. I know the defender must spend time tokens every time the invaders gives them, so does the defender immediately spend them at the beginning of the round? I can't recall seeing this covered in the rules.
You start with some time tokens, but then as soon as the Attacker performs their first action of the round (which will provide you with more), you then spend any time tokens you already had along with the new ones you just gained.
If i do a minor manouver and move units to that last rampart, and then move more units to that last rampart with major manouver, will the marauders join twice in this round or just once? Also, when i finish an action and then the invader place puts a saboteur token on that building, how should i interact with that action space? May i fill it again and resolve it again? and for purposes of end of the round? Should i discard the tokens or leave them there?
had to check the rules to refresh my memory. I found this: "During both the Minor and Major Maneuvers, if the Invader moves any unit to the final Rampart, two Marauders join the attack." After the Saboteur token is there, any further actions you take in there cost one more hourglass than they normally would. Saboteur tokens stay on the buildings until removed by the Guards action.

You state here that the Defender gets 6 time tokens at set up, but the rulebook says 4. I bought a used game, though it is 2nd edition, so I was wondering if you were playing with errata rules or if this was an error? What is recommended?
On 24:14 you put a wall, but there is no space on the board for it...Is it legal? The rules state that markers could only be placed an marked spaces...and a perfect video. Love this explanation. Greetings from germany.
I can see why it appears that way! I'm placing it onto a legal wall space, and just stacking it next to one that is already there. You can build any number of walls in a single "wall space".
Watch It Played Exactly that is my problem: rules on page 3 state that the places on board allow only one piece. Otherwise it would be specified. But where is it specified? Thanx for your quick answer.
Dogma 1979 Unfortunately this rule book had many issues when it was released. We worked closely with the publisher to address many of its problems and get clarifications so that the video would be accurate. However, this means that what you see here will not always be supported by the rule book (because the rule book was either wrong, or incomplete in many places). That said, the publisher has approved the contents of this video, so you can follow it with confidence. Cheers!
Wow, how many takes did that take? It looks like a nice 1v1 strategy game. Is it only 1v1? it almost looks like you could team up on the attackers. I'm curious how many games it takes to actually get a strategy down for each side. Thanks for the great intro.

great video, a few questions, if a invader order is resolved, is it returned to the suply? if there is no unit to do the order, the order is removed from the game? lets say that thanks to the ritual possesion all hero tokens are out of the game, can the devender still use the defender tacktic that has the negetive effect of removing the hero tokens?

This indicates that the order is removed from the current game and cannot be used again. I could be wrong about this tough. This rule is the same reason that led me to my previous question

When you first asked, you asked what happens if there are no unit there to do the order (which doesn't have to mean that the units died, they simply could have moved after the order was placed), and if the rules say the Order is lost permanently if they 'die' that could indicate a different situation.

Are the invader's order tokens returned to the defender at the end of the turn? Can they reuse them in future turns, or are they removed from the game after they are used once?

I'm a little confused about the minimum time tokens the defender gets at the beginning of the game/round. I know the defender must spend time tokens every time the invaders gives them, so does the defender immediately spend them at the beginning of the round? I can't recall seeing this covered in the rules.
You start with some time tokens, but then as soon as the Attacker performs their first action of the round (which will provide you with more), you then spend any time tokens you already had along with the new ones you just gained.

If i do a minor manouver and move units to that last rampart, and then move more units to that last rampart with major manouver, will the marauders join twice in this round or just once?
Also, when i finish an action and then the invader place puts a saboteur token on that building, how should i interact with that action space? May i fill it again and resolve it again? and for purposes of end of the round? Should i discard the tokens or leave them there?
had to check the rules to refresh my memory. I found this: "During both the Minor and Major Maneuvers, if the Invader moves any unit to the final Rampart, two Marauders join the attack."
After the Saboteur token is there, any further actions you take in there cost one more hourglass than they normally would. Saboteur tokens stay on the buildings until removed by the Guards action.
I apologize if you have already answered this, but there are 171 comments and I can't search through all of them and their replies. You state here that the Defender gets 6 time tokens at set up, but the rulebook says 4. I bought a used game, though it is 2nd edition, so I was wondering if you were playing with errata rules or if this was an error? What is recommended?
The rules here are correct (the rule book unfortunately had many errors initially, which we worked with the publisher to address in the video).
On 24:14 you put a wall, but there is no space on the board for it...Is it legal? The rules state that markers could only be placed an marked spaces...and a perfect video. Love this explanation.

I can see why it appears that way! I'm placing it onto a legal wall space, and just stacking it next to one that is already there. You can build any number of walls in a single "wall space".

Dogma 1979 Unfortunately this rule book had many issues when it was released. We worked closely with the publisher to address many of its problems and get clarifications so that the video would be accurate. However, this means that what you see here will not always be supported by the rule book (because the rule book was either wrong, or incomplete in many places). That said, the publisher has approved the contents of this video, so you can follow it with confidence. Cheers!

It is only 1v1, but as you say, you can certainly have players team up to share strategies, and plan moves together.
As defender can you play the hourglasses whenever or do you have to play them immediately upon receiving them.

Can the defender get new units onto the board from the supply? If so how?

As far as I know, the spy can only be used once per turn. It seems maybe they included an extra token?
The Mantelet cannot be destroyed.

As a general rule, the game means "return to the box" when it says remove from the game.
Can you put two orders on a single wall section?
My understanding is that you are able to put more than 1 order on a single wall section.

+Dawn Mage Ah, I see what you mean now. For that, I think you might be better off checking with the publisher. Individual card effects and interactions I don't always feel confident answering, as that goes to a level of detail best answered by the designer.

This indicates that the order is removed from the current game and cannot be used again. I could be wrong about this tough. This rule is the same reason that led me to my

+Dawn Mage No worries. Good questions. That is another one to double check on. When you first asked, you asked what happens if there are no unit there to do the order (which doesn't have to mean that the units died, they simply could have moved after the order was placed), and if the rules say the Order is lost permanently if they 'die' that could indicate a different situation.
