Love the pod but (from my understanding) the statistic that lesbians have higher rates of domestic violence is actually a misinterpretation of the study. The study was done with individual lesbians not lesbian couples and studied DV from their entire relationship history (including past relationships with men because many lesbians have relationships with men before they come out). So past male partners make up the higher rates. Not to discount the violence that does happen within lesbian relationships because that is very real.
Thank you for this. I wonder if there are more lesbians who get the opportunity to report having experienced domestic violence because they're not in that situation anymore, whereas there are a lot of women currently or recently out of DV relationships with men and are afraid to report due to fearing repercussions.
Yeah I have heard so many people put down lesbian relationships because of that misinterpretation of those stats. It's wild, so I'm glad you brought that up
Loved this episode so much and just wanna say, Ashley, I fully had the same response to the idea of you switching to insurance sales…like that is absolutely not your destiny dude. You are a brilliant comedian to the core and I can’t wait for you to come back to Toronto. The pod hits the spot every week. Also to anyone else reading this, FFS PLEASE GIVE ASHLEY A DOLLAR
Ok, since I helped you remember that Kylie's cancel-coach title was the Mol3ster-Jester, I feel like I've gotta think of one for Irene. Instead of being there to keep you from getting cancelled, you & Irene said it's more like doubling-down as a comedian to keep you IN trouble rather than out of it. So maybe - the "Double-down Trouble-clown" ? Does that work? 💚💚💚
I haven't watched or listened to the episode yet but with these guests, I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally saw Robin live earlier this year and yes guts were busted and I'm sure this episode will set the healing back and I want it that way
Comment for the algorithm Porn is only "good" or "better" in the sense that they know how to keep you watching and addicted, look into the labour practices and you'd be horrified with the health and safety alone for the workers involved of like 99% of what's out there. Would love to hear an honest discussion of the issue although I realize a comedy podcast isn't the place haha
Irene is obviously the (real) Cancel Coach. "Coach - how do I make this more cancel-able?" "Get in there! Keep going! You got this!" I am only at the Brazil discussion and I already love the episode. "Brazil is hot" - you heard it here first, guys! Brazil is hot xD I agree with you, Ashley, and it's exactly what I've been telling my friends: I am sorry you had to go through it but I am so glad you got cancelled. It is the best thing that happened to the content and vibe of this show. --- oh my - SO GLAD I stayed for the last second of this. Thank you, Alex! XD
I sometimes hear vague mentions of Hannah Gadsby on this channel, and I'm really interested in hearing how other people feel about them. They're from my little state of Australia, and we really don't have many famous people (aside from Errol Flynn a very long time ago), so I've known about Hannah's comedy for many years On another note: DANISH WOMEN!!! I'm so with you!
idk if anyone can help me but there was an episode at least a year ago where a trans guy/trans masc person talked about coming to terms with being a gay guy (and how much more comfy they felt compared to lesbian spaces )that i can't for the life of me find,,, pretty vague description i know but i cant remember more and that it really resonated with me. probably with kate? anyone has any clue?
I'm sorry, is there straight public radio? Are there people listening to This American Life thinking, if only this quaint, quirky anecdote based radio program somehow spoke to a queer audience?
Hey Ashley! Would you ever come to CO on tour? I love your podcasts and comedy shorts but have yet to see you live. It’d be a dream come true! (also there are many many gay ladies here)

I’d argue that it is accurate to say lesbian DV is not reported as much as hetrosexual
I adore Robin. Wonderful to see her on the pod.
Omg Ashley Gavin AND Irene Tu AND Robin Tran in a room together? I gotta watch!
Robin and Irene are two of my favorite comics, this episode was such a treat
I have to be honest, this kind of crude and unfiltered comedy is what I love the most. Thats why bad friends and WHGS are my fave podcasts
