WTF Happened To Eli Roth's Cabin Fever?

- Imagine you’re a teenager out in the middle of nowhere, and you find you have an itch on your face that you just can’t scratch. The more you scratch it, the more it itches. And when you look down at the hand that had done the itching, there are chunks of flesh on it... What do you do next? Well, it really happened to a young Eli Roth when he worked on a horse farm in Iceland when he was 19 years old. Eli survived the ordeal; we also can’t help but be kind of glad it happened to him. After all, we wouldn’t have “Cabin Fever” otherwise. Is that messed up for us? If so, that’s fitting because this is one messed up flick, and so stay away from the shaving kit for just a little while, and lets find out WTF Happened to “Cabin Fever.”

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

This is one of my favorite movies! It’s the perfect balance of funny and revolting and scary. The idea really sticks with you.
The only horror movie that has caused me to have nightmares, I also thought about the movie for like a week..
I pick this over Cabin In The Woods any day of the week😀
@@einienj3281yeeeesss😂
@@einienj3281yeah that and cube/cube zero and the platform
one of the most Realistic horror, thriller, and psychological scary movies out there.. because these things easily can happen in real life...in fact it actually does...and often
Cabin fever is probably one of the best “cabin in the woods “ movies right up there with evil dead and Cabin in the Woods and I didn’t realize it was such a low budget film . Makes sense those with a passionate cast and crew usually become greater than the sum of its components. I still don’t understand the recent remake the original is pretty much perfect and not that old really . Of course it’s old but not like Halloween old .
Agree
Nah cabin fever's garbage like most of Eli Roths movies
This brings back memories of going to the movies in my high school days, this era of "new" horror movies I actually saw on the big screen.
🤘
Same! And awesome time
Yep!!! It makes me proud to know that our generation film has aged damn well. Class of 01' 🤘😎
Man, i have to tell you, Cabin Fever is Highly Underrated. One of my Fav. Movies.
This movie had so many great scenes. And some of them were completely over the top that you can’t help but smile.
I love that the pancakes scene was entirely unscripted, and Eli Roth decided to randomly add it in after noticing Dennis' actor practicing Rae Kwon Do.
That scene cracks me up every time . 😂
*Rex Kwon Do
Maybe you should put a sign
This is the only damn movie that managed to scare me as a kid. I was too afraid to sleep in the dark or alone.
It was the combination of the 100% possible scenario, the fall atmosphere, and the fantastic soundtrack, especially those droning cellos. I still get chills when even thinking about that at age 30.
This movie had me rattled for a week.. the only horror movie that has caused me to have nightmares.. love it! ❤
Love this movie. Saw it when I was trying to recover from a terrible flu and for whatever reason I fell in love with the movie. LOL
Thanks for giving this movie some love!
I remember requesting JoBlo to do a video on this a year ago. I immediately got so excited finally seeing this pop up in my feed
I worked on a commercial and a few films with the old man at the drug store. He was a delight to meet.
Damn 😮
Such an awesome movie. Way more deep and nuanced than most people give it credit for. It's way more than just a gore splatterfest; it's a study on human nature in a crisis situation, and it's really well done.
Nope. Couldn’t be more wrong IMO. But I’m super stoked you like it and see it that way.
@@edwardzuniga7598 Really? What part do you disagree with? You don't think it was well done? Or you don't think there was any character study side to it?
Lmfao 🤣 imagine thinking and Eli Roth movies deep in any kind of meaningful way Eli Roth has the mentality of a douchey frat bro
Just ordered the blu ray box set with all 4 movies in it. Can't wait to get it, then I will re watch all the movies again.
This movie came out when I was a kid and I grew up on horror but both my brother and me and couldn’t finish it at the time. I was terrified. I’d love a spin off of this idea. To this day I love it and it really taps into the Friday the 13th and tropes of slasher movies. Iconic and can’t wait for more from Eli. Thanksgiving was amazing 🤩
Loved this movie, I was young when I saw it. The ending scene made me really skeptical of drinking water for a while. 😭 Remake bombed, people need to stop with the remaking/rebooting of things that have already been done, smh.
Well, in that case, you definitely shouldn't watc the sequel, "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever." Though, you actually should, because it's great. 😁
It was directed by Ti West, who directed "The House of the Devil," "Pearl" and "X." It's super underrated. I like it as much as "Cabin Fever."
I feel like I'm the only person who unironically loves this movie.
It also saved my life as I developed Necrotizing Fasciitis in my arm and I caught it VERY VERY early due to having seen this movie, which is based on NF*
*IRL it's different. Less bleeding because the areas of flesh that come off are already dead. It's also not very contagious from person-to-person and it's a bacterial infection, not a virus.
Another underrated movie it was way ahead of its time with that covid 19 illness i still have the movie on VCR tape
Just watched it on cable last night 👍👍. Good timing bro!
It’s a great comedy film. I quote almost daily.😂😂😂
Was some funny shit when Strong ran into a buncha girl scouts covered in "blood", only for them to realize he was him and he hadda run for him life 😂 A shame we didn't get to see Debelo and Andrews share a scene, as they worked perfectly together in Detroit Rock City
Great vid! Can't believe they remade this. The remake was so bad. Tracks tho.... Pancakes got what he deserved. Damn ankle bitter!
that kid screaming pancakes, then doing a martial arts routine was so David Lynch.
The shaving scene to this day makes me feel extra queasy. I loved this movie and the practical effects so much. Sadly, it's always disheartening to hear as a horror fan and a woman these women dont want to do these sex scenes. I can understand why they're uncomfortable with them and wish they didnt have to have them in general in the movies. The effects still remind me heavily of evil dead and i hope more horror movies int he feature can focus more on gore and practical effects.
It's crazy to think Lionsgate took this and it came out just a year before SAW 1.
Still love this one.
I like how the one ahole guy of the group (guy who was also in Super Troopers) hides in a cave and comes out at the end and sees all the carnage that had taken place and all he can say is Yes I made it!
Didn't he drink water at one point? Or was that another guy? I remember theories that he was probably infected despite his attempts.
Fun fact he was sweet lou in grind, the other guy who isnt shaun from boy meets world is also from grind and detroit rock city, the cop is also in detroit rock city
I felt like I was losing my brain cells as l was watching this movie.
The shaving part really struck me. Every time i use a razor i always end up scrapping off a giant piece of skin, no matter what i do.
Made me switch to waxing
Made me physically ill.. and I still get flashbacks whenever I shave.. 👀
What do you mean WTF Happened to this movie?
PANCAKES!!! That's what happened!!! :P
one of my top horrors of all time
Horror is never dead. You need a great writer and director. Then BOOm goes the pressurized blood spray we crave. Great flick
I totally forgot about this movie. I was so grossed out watching it on TV as a teenager I can’t imagine watching it uncut 😂
That movie made me scared of drinking water 💦 and bathing 🛀
Love this movie!!! Saw in the theater when it first came out and could not wait until it came out on DVD. Watch every October. The "leg shaving scene" gets me every time and I shudder just seeing the flesh being shaved away!!
man, Cabin Fever 2 pretty good too... kinda, the best character there is Winston lmao with same antics and vibe as this.. I love that scene at the very end hilarious stuff.
One of my favorite horror films!!!! Eli rocks!!! ✨🤩🎥🍿✨
Don't forget The Rotten Fruit! Best disc extras ever.
The most popular band in the world!!!
Maaaan I had forgotten about that lol
It's a brilliant film. Some people say it has aged badly, i watched it for the first time in years and i hold the opposite opinion. It is both hilarious and messed up and not many films execute this style as effectively. 10/10.
Saw this on the big screen when it came out, pretty much in agreeance with everyone, the karate scene is a true stand out lol Was definitely a wtf did I just see moment.
Great video, though I wished you'd have gotten into the stories of Roth getting sued by the unions after its huge success & him having to pay them.
Without the sequel, we would not have director Ti West. The sequel was re-edited by the producers and Ti West could not get his name removed from the film. It’s kind of like Ti West’s Alien 3.
Eli Roth in his 20s though! Holy shit 😍😍😍
I think Serena appreciates that scene NOW 'cause it is by far the most iconic moment in the movie
Great movie. I loved how insane and hilarious it is.
I like how that little blonde kid grew up to be UFC's Paddy Pimblett
one of the most Realistic horror, thriller, and psychological scary movies out there.. because these things easily can happen in real life...in fact it actually does...and often..
Everything about this movie is hilarious. One of my favorites.
Joey Kern had eye infections?
you know why.. right?
watch the commentary of the movie. during a scene with the car, one of the charges, used to shatter truck glass, goes off too soon, and blinds Kern. badly. almost permanently.
also, you didn't mention the dog. but again, watch the commentary...
I was not ok for years after I watched this movie as a kid. I was terrified of someone coming up to the door our front door with that disease 😂
I had to immediately pause this and search for 'Restaurant Dogs', and it did...NOT DISAPPOINT!😂😂😂
I had this shit on repeat back when it dropped in O2 as well as the bonus material. Rotten fruit was hilarious.
Knew of this films existence for years but went into it completely blind. No idea what it's about but not only was I disgusted but never laughed so much while viewing a horror flick since 'Psycho Cop 2'
I much prefer the original to the remake.
Cracking "now classic"...Cracking trilogy to be fair...including it's remake a few short years later....
I respect Eli Roth for what he's done but I just don't like his films.
Definitely some cheapness and cheesiness to this one that hurts it, but it does have that classic feeling. Love Roth overall for his horror contributions
Can anyone tell me why in this film there is a character named The Bunny Man and in the credits it says “We will never tell you”? Who played that legend of a character?
I don't think it's ever been publicly revealed, but if you somehow find the call sheets from the film, it'll definitely be listed on there. Maybe contact the studio and see if you can get lucky.
I just hope they make the 4th movie eventually. The 3rd movie gave this series the lore it needed!
I remember seeing the leg part in trailers as a kid and it freaked me out lol
PANCAKES! PANCAAAAAAKES!
Saw this movie in the theaters with my mom at the tender age of 11. Movie def scarred me.
This movie made me sick when the dog ripped the girl apart
It freaked me out after the constant throwing up
I am still trying to figure out why did it need to be remade not even 10yrs later.
It took some serious talent to make every movie related to this one go off a cliff. Part 2 was awful and I'm still not trying the third. Remake was equally bad and was even more awkward than anything. Speaking of, what the hell was wrong with that kid loafing around on the bench at the general store.... in both this and remake?
I've known autistic kids for decades and that's not their kind of behavior to exhibit. I'm under the impression the direction for both kids was "I dunno, just sit there and bite the guy's hand or something... and do karate". Other than that, it's great to hear of such grand success after such a rocky start.
"BETTER CLOSE THE DOOR MARCIE!"
I really like Cabin Fever , the sequel was such a let down though
Good movie.
1 and 2 are amazing 🔥
Ove always loved this movie, ive put a bunch of friend's on to this one
This movie grossed me the fk out.
I love this movie and part 2!!!
Anytime this movie comes up, i immediately think of the pancake kid, then the party cop
I Have Cabin Fever The Unrated Version DVD Oh My God This Movie Is So Scary And Cringeworthy I Just Can't Get Enough. And I Watched Cabin Fever 2 On VUDU A Few Years Ago And Saw Cabin Fever: Patient Zero Back In 2019 On TUBI. All Three Cabin Fever Movies = Pure Genius. As For The Cabin Fever Remake Goes I Didn't See It.
cabin fever 2 is just as good Ti West and Eli Roth are both horror legions now
For what it's worth, Cerina Vincent seems to be happy with Cabin Fever and Eli Roth these days, judging by her Instagram. Also, the remake is straight buns.
is it just me, or Eli Roth looks somehow like to Zack Snyder
Love this movie
Pancakes 🥞
How did you overlook the David Hess music?
I love this film and the sequel / prequel but hated the remake 😅
I love this movie, its just a fun gory movie, the actors were awesome too, the remake is garbage though.
Great movie, great video, but now I wonder: wtf happened to the pancakes... I mean sequels?
OK, so it's no Evil Dead 2 but it still entertained and made me laugh. What's the shotgun for? That's for n*****s.
Uh...that sex scene thing is really fucked up.
Great movie, it revived the B horror movie genre
This movie is too gross for my stomach. I don't like this movie and never plan to watch it again
I really did enjoy this classic movie and I had a huge crush on Marcy aka Cerina Vincent she did a great job in this movie and she sure is so sexy as hell bro 😎 and I was 7 years old when I saw her in this movie and been in loved 🥰 with her too and I love ❤️ this actress to death man!
Pancakes
That’s Ed Boon creator of Mortal Kombat.. not Eli Roth.. wtf.
The guys from the shitty grind movie with the o.c. kid replaced by Shaun from boy meets world.
Yeah just watched this movie tonight for the first time. It wasn’t good ( my take )
I love Eli Roth… Snuck into Cabin Fever, free of charge… Still wanted my money back.
Holy shit, are they really teenagers??
Yep... The original CF was so gross AF & I like it .. sequels ...not a fan especially the remake it's so boring
Love your videos...but just wanted to point out that some of the information provided is not correct in regards to budget and production. I have heavy connection with this film.
0:11 Your hand doesn't do the itching, it does the scratching. Scratch the itch.
God this flick was awful. We used it as the final step of initiation into our college drill platoon.
So people who have money give you money because their kid liked it? It has nothing to do with talent or even merit. Just a rich person buying their kid a movie....
This JoBlo narrator's voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
Ely Roth really pisses me off, the man has talent, there's no doubt about that, he has imagination by the bucket load but his films always have some of the worst dialogue or the most WTF? scenes in them that can really ruin his movies. I mean 'Pancakes' WTF?? It's so weird and out of place and serves zero purpose in the film, it's just odd and that cop who literally moans party all the time, what cop in the world talks and acts like that? lol Weird for the sake of it.
Guess you hate all of David lynch films.
@@chasejackson7248Not at all, one of my favourite films ever is The elephant man, comparing David Lynch to Ely Roth is something I never thought I would ever see in my lifetime 🤣
🥞🥋
