It's great to see something different from the same old same old. This journal is wonderful and I love its arty nature. So many ideas I want to try and this is the best video I have seen that demonstrates how to navigate the site and how the images can be used in different ways, not simply printed and pasted. Well done!
Hi Jane, Your work is so beautiful as well as amazingly creative. I love this journal you made, as well as your stunning web site! Thanks for sharing jane!
The cover is beautiful. It has depth. The porthole booklet in the back pocket is genius. Your book shows a lot of imagination and creativity. Lots of work! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Just caught this video this morning and what a delight. The thought and detail you've put into the journal is wonderful. I love the details and rustic additions.... just fabulous and so inspirational. TFS. C xx
Here I am, commenting again! I wanted to say, I stole your idea of sandwiching seed heads between rice paper tissue and encaustic wax. However, I’m working on a Native American journal. I used seeds Native Americans used for a variety of reasons... flat yucca seeds, choke cherry seeds and the juniper berry or ghost seed. The texture was lovely w my tan rice paper giving the unexpected effect of leather! After much trial and error I finally perfected the 3D seeds as well! Thank you for sharing your beautiful craft!
Jane I thought the Japanese journal was my favorite but after seeing the Mermaid I have a new favorite. Your work is so original and exquisite. I am intrigued by the waxing of items. Do you have a tutorial on how to do this?
Hi Freda, sorry I didn’t spot your question sooner. I don’t have a tutorial yet as I’m busy writing a book about making art by altering old photos. Once that’s done I’ll do more tutorials on my UA-cam account
I can’t stop watching this video! I’m truly in AWE! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! I also find something new I fall in love with each time and have to comment as well! May I ask you what type of rice paper you use? I ordered some off Amazon. It “said” rice paper. However, it was a THICK soft cotton paper, almost like REALLY thick paper towels. It also said “extra absorbent” for practicing calligraphy. So you can imagine the encaustic mess it made when I naively attempted to encase seed pods between it! I could’ve added a wick and had an emergency candle! (Unless that is the correct paper and I just messed up being a novice? Also, when you say “encased between tissue paper”, are you referring to “decorative gift tissue paper” or do you separate the plies on facial tissue paper or Kleenex? I’m just having difficulty w encasing anything 3D. It either looks like a bubble w seeds rolling around in it...or a messy hunk of wax. I’m just trying to determine if it’s my technique or the products I’m using . Or both Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words. I use the sort of tissue paper that is used as gift wrap…the thinner the better. Lay your seeds on a sheet and then get another sheet that you’ve glued and lay it on top. Then add the wax. I did a short tutorial on my UA-cam janechippart
A masterclass in use of materials and techniques! So impressed by your use of wax &c producing an aged effect for the cabinet cards. And I didn't spot any lace . . . . .
So many lovely aspects to this journal - stunning! Just wondering... when you say you've waxed something, does that mean melting beeswax onto it or something else please?
Thank you. I was wondering the same thing. It looked like encaustic wax, yet so many people use beeswax to create a transparent effect or look of vellum. Absolutely stunning. I refuse to call a single one of your creations a junk journal!!
I’m a big fan of Jane Chipp …she is simply amazing… her works are simply the best.
Wow, thank you!
So pretty!
Incredibly beautiful!! Wow!!
Adorable you use the perfect colors! 🌷
Great ideas and I love your journal! It has inspired me in my own ocean journal attempt! Thank you!
I love how you’ve personalized the digitals with paint. The use of fabrics to add layering and textures looks so organic. Such artistry!💝
Thank you Debra!
