  • Roan Mountain is a location of unparalleled natural beauty, and the site plays host to century-old stories of strange noises in the wind. Described by some as an angelic choir or wails of the damned, the Ghost Choir of Roan Mountain sticks with all visitors who hear it.

I live in Knoxville...and I've been hearing this for years. When I lay down to go to sleep, I hear the music, it sounds like chorded music and maybe voices, it doesn't sound like an electrical sound, it sounds like true music...like a very faint radio somewhere in the distance. My husband hears it occasionally, but not as often as I. My husband is a family physician here in the area, and he has no explanation for the sound or why we might be hearing it. I have always found it strange, but soothing, and I just decided to enjoy it. But tonight I was watching videos about a dog named Bunny that pushes buttons to communicate (very cute), which took me to a story about a low pitched sound that many people hear, which brought me here, to the Roan Mt. story. When I ran across this, I was shocked to read the history of this sound, and that others have heard this so close to where I live. So... maybe we're not "hearing things", maybe we really are hearing something.
