Heck yeah. Love that song. Wasn't there a rumor some girl got raped when they where recording it and you could hear it on the song? I don't know if there was any truth to that.
@@Herbert04 I remember the rumor except what I heard was that when they were recording the screaming on the roller coaster sounds that there was a girl on the roller coaster that was stabbed to death and that the screams you can tell that it's not a normal scream but I will have to say that I've never looked up to see if it was just an urban legend or not course that was way back in the seventies so now that we have Internet I think I'll investigate it.
You just opened a rabbit hole. They had so many great hits like "Skin Tight", "Love Roller Coaster" and "Sweet Sticky Thing". Just a great group all around. Leroy "Sugerfoot" Bonner is probably one of my favorite lead singers of all time. He's that voice you were raving about.
What I find interesting about the Ohio Players is that most of their songs came from jam sessions. Hardly anyone came to the studio with anything written down. Love Rollercoaster is their most popular song. Also check out OHIO and I Wanna Be Free. P.S. Their album covers were epic! 😉
Love the syncopated rhythm of Funk! Gotta listen to The Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster" too! ...Listen to Isaac Hayes, "Shaft" and some more James Brown.
The Ohio Players are FIRE!!! Quite a few funk bands are from Ohio: The Ohio Players, Bootsy Collins, Zapp & Roger, Lakeside, The Isley Brothers Some awesome Ohio Players music: "Love Rollercoaster", "Skin Tight", "Far East Mississippi", "Fopp", and "I Want to be Free" is a nice ballad.
Yes...Love Rollercoaster live...from the Midnight Special, I think...cause they had the first break dancers come put and do some moves...you'll love the outfits, too!
We partied hard to the Ohio Players back in the 70's! Other songs by them you'd love are Love Rollercoaster, Skin Tight, Sweet Sticky Thing and more. Got several of their albums and still enjoy them! Another song you'll like is I Can Understand It by New Birth! We danced all night to both groups!
Yes sir! Basement party Playlist right there! Bobby Womack never thought of doing I Can Understand It like New Birth did it! You can get down all night to that one! Too funky!
You guys have a lot to choose from when it comes to funk bands. Ohio Players, Parliament, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly & The Family Stone, Isley Brothers, Gap Band, Rufus/Chaka Khan, Tower of Power, Con Funk Shun, Bar-Kays, Brothers Johnson, Bootsy Collins/Bootsy's Rubber Band, and so many more.
OMG!! So many cool guys in one funky band! Those Afros, those outfits, those horns, those drums, those keyboards! Pure funk! Loved it!! Had to get up out of my seat & groove a little! ♥️The old white woman
This 1974 song went to #1 on the charts in 1974-75, and they had an equally good hit in '75 with "Love Rollercoaster." An equally funky funk song that y'all may have heard in movies before, at least part of it, is "Jungle Boogie" by Kool and the Gang from 1973, also the case for Brick's 1977 funk hit "Dusic" and for the Bar-Kays' 1977 funk hit "Let's Have Some Fun." For some all-female funk, try "Which Way is Up?" by Stargard from 1977. Parliament had an all-female funk spin-off group called Brides of Funkenstein, too. And Stevie Wonder put out some syrupy funk too in songs like the 1972 "Maybe Your Baby."
I used to hear The Ohio Players practicing their songs in one of their member's house in north Dayton, Ohio. That would have been around 1977-1978. My girlfriend lived only 4 houses away and we both used to sit on her porch in the evenings and listen to OP's practice sessions. Good memories of the incredible music put out by so many back then.
.amazing i had the exact experience with young and company, use to hear them practicing i like what you doing to me, crazy things is william young turns out to be my cousin
The Ohio Players were THE funkiest. I used to stand for hours looking at their album covers in the store. Those of you who know what I’m talking about, know what I’m talking about.
Those of us growing up in the 70's were really blessed, weren't we? We expected music this good - because we were surrounded by it. I saw The Ohio Players in concert, as part of the Kool Jazz Festival. They brought the house down!
Whassup Jay & Amber! Hope you guys are well. Ohio Players is fire, pure funk music! Unmistakable vocal by "Sugarfoot". What about a slow dance? Please react to "Heaven must be like this", my favorite song from OP. Be safe! Greetings from Brazil!
Dayton Ohio's Ohio Players are incredible. Below everyone has mentioned playing Love Rollercoaster and Skin Tight, but don't forget Funk-O-Nots, one of the funkiest songs ever!!!
Saw the comment about “America”!! One of my all time favorite groups! Saw them in concert when I was 17 & again with my daughter at 62! Love it because my kids grew up listening to them & they love them too!! So many hits, all wonderful! ♥️The old white woman
When these songs were new in the 1970’s I preferred uptempo Ohio Players songs like this one- “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster.” But in 2022, I gravitate their slow jam songs like “I wanna be free,” “Heaven must be like this” and of course “Sweet sticky thing.”
Skin Tight is another popular song by them. That's Leroy Roosevelt "Sugarfoot" Bonner on the double-neck guitar. Funk Bands: George Clinton, Parliament, Parliament-Funkadelic, Funkadelic, Cameo, The Bar-Kay's, Brass Construction, Con Funk Shon, Rufus, Isley Brothers, Bootsy Collins, Sly & The Family Stone, War, James Brown & The JB's, Earth Wind & Fire, Instant Funk. :-)

Ohio brings the FUNK.. Boostie Collins lives in Cincinnati and Wild Cherry is from a small town on the Ohio river and of course you got the Ohio Players..
Thank you for a good and honest reaction. I have been a fan of the Ohio Players since 1975. Also, I do not know of a single person who can stay in a bad mood after listening to 'Fire'. The whole album is good as well. Again, thank you for your reaction. The dude in the middle on the trumpet is Marvin 'Merv' Pierce. After he left the Ohio Players, he moved to Australia and started a career in computers. The keyboard player, Billy Beck was one of my first influences (because of this song) on the keyboard/piano. I still play to this day because of Billy Beck. My church has never been the same hahaha.
I’m from the capital of Ohio and was about 13 or 14 when this song hit. When it came on at the roller rink we ALL hit the floor-jamming to the funk HARD! Oh the 1970s. Peace ✌️

Hi guys. Okay so the Prouds Uncle Bobby was voiced by Cedric The Entertainer, who admitted in an interview once that he was channeling Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner who was a guitarist and vocalist for Ohio Players. Good catch y'all.
In addition to the oft-mentioned "Love Rollercoaster" (my fave OP song), another helping of pure old school funk is Kool & the Gang's "Jungle Boogie". You'll love both tunes!
There must have been something funky in the water in the Cincinnati area back in the day -- the Isley Brothers, the Ohio Players, Roger Troutman and his brothers, Bootsy Collins from Funkadelic, the Deele, and Slave were all from that area. Check out the Ohio Players' "I Want to Be Free" (a heartbreak song that the lead singer can't explain without breaking up decades later), "Skintight" (smooth jazzy funk), and my favorite "Jive Turkey."
Loving your interactions with each other tonight.. geez didn't know Jordan could dance so well haha 😆 ...... Great reaction video tonight guys .... Amber afros were really popular when I was in high school got to see quite a few .. cool

Isn't this magnificent? From the soundtrack of my youth, funk was simply a wonderful time in our music history! I love Ohio Players!
