When Mike was a young teen at Southwick me and my son who at the time was probably 10-12 years old walked up to his pit to see him. The way he treated my son was amazing, he gave him a signed KTM hat and was incredibly kind to him. Ever since that day we both became fans, any teenager who’s that nice to a little kid is a good person with a good heart.

I'll give Mike this, he owns up to his mistakes. I have huge respect for a man that can say I did wrong, whether it's the T-shirts, or slamming MC. Very impressed by his ability to retain and recall so many details about his career, and the sport in general. I was never a fan of 800, but I do have a new respect for Mike as a person. Great interview.

Bloody good rider who due to actions from another family member has been tarnished. He was racing against the best ever to sit on a bike and getting hole shots constantly and always in the top ten, still love watching the guy ride👏

I remember pulling into hangtown the year of his 18th birthday and his girlfriend at the time had put homemade happy birthday signs all down the entrance. Pretty cool they are still together. I wasn't a fan of alessi the racer but I didn't dislike him. I always felt a little sorry for him because he always seemed like he was on the verge of crying when he didn't meet up to the expectations the world had put on his shoulder s at times.
He's such a well-spoken, polite respectful guy. I'm definitely an a fan of the adult Alessi.

Love him or hate him, Mike is one of the most successful amateur athletes of all time. One of the best starters in the pros, he has had a solid career and is a great asset to our sport. Let’s face it, his “aggressive” style kept it interesting. I met him in the pits at southwick years ago and he was gracious and professional around my kids. Cheers Mike! Keep it going!

I sat right behind Mike at this years Daytona SX. Super nice guy, was great with his kids. Got to talk to him some. I was wearing my JT Racing hoodie, we talked about him wearing JT gear. He was really nice, and he was really into the racing. He is by far the holeshot king of all time.

I can 100% see why people would have a problem with the Alessi's. But perspective is everything and I got a lot of it racing in the amateurs with them. The only time I was ever on the gate with Mike and Jeff was at the 2004 Lorettas area qualifier at Aonia Pass in Washington Georgia in the 4 stroke class. Zach Osborne was also at that race on his KTM's. Aside from the shirts, the laser pointer incident, race incidents and all that I have to truly say the Alessi's are the epitome of a dedicated family racing a motocross bike is all these people have ever known and I think there is something beautiful about that. A lot of family race, but they also play baseball and go to the movies and go on vacation to the beach and have soccer practice and go out on the lake on the weekends. The Alessi's raced motocross at the highest level possible and that is it and that level of dedication to their craft and commitment to win over such a long amount of time is truly amazing to me. We are talking being dedicated to something from 4 years old into your 30's, it would be hard to commit to watering your lawn for that many years much less driving all over the country, practicing, racing, studying, learning, training, building bikes, etc. I think this sport is a better sport because of the Alessi's the same way its better because of the Stewart's and the Carmichaels and a few others. They had an era in this sport and left a deep meaningful mark on it. I was amazed at how much detail and work they put into those Varner Motorsport Honda's Mike and Jeff were racing their last few years amateurs the same bike he podiumed at steel city on. Lots of people put time and effort into their amateur bikes, pipes, and graphics and all that, but Mike and Jeffs bike were like literal science projects that were never complete they were always looking for a way to make them better, that level of dedication from Tony Alessi to give his kids the best chance to win is commendable to say the least. I wish I could relive that 2000-2006 era of Amateur Motocross over again. I know Mike left the amateurs in 2004 but that 6 year period was absolutely amazing to be apart of I still think about it a lot and Im 33 years old now.

Mike was one of the nicest guys i met at the races over the years, remember being over from England at Red Bud the weekend where he had the awful crash where he was run over multiple times, i was wearing a Tommy Searle Red Bull KTM shirt, where Tommy was due over the following season, Mike seen me walking through the pits after practice and called me over, i believe he was friends with Tommy, he said 'you cant wear that here yet, hes not here until next year, you better have one of mine!' then went to his truck and pulled out one of his Factory Rockstar Makita Suzuki Race Shirts, signed it and gave it to me, then everytime he seen me after that weekend, always acknowledged me.... would be great to see him back... well Done Mike on a great Career, wish you all the best for you future on and off the track!!

I think Mike's always had his head on straight and was the most reasonable in his family. I think he was surrounded by familial chaos. Though his family meant well, when they got out of pocket I could see Mike try to mitigate that but he couldn't control them ultimately. That's why the family biz is always tough, especially when media and public perception is involved.

I had to relisten to this while working Monday morning for motivation... David Goggins next... What a gritty bad a$$ you are Mike Alessi! Ping as well! I grew up in the shaddow of Ronnie Tichenor & Vince DeVane... I ended up1986 FL 125A State Champion at 17 after they both went pro at 16. I went pro at 18. Then out all of 87 w a Burst C1 & Crushed Right Arch... 2 weeks off the Couch from pins removed out of my right foot... I swept both 1988 Gatorback Winter Am 125 A motos... then Cagiva took their bike back going out of business... I end up on KX125 a few wks, made 125 Pro Tampa SX Main but felt timid and didn't do a sketchy lipped out tripple... then Went to Daytona and was running a solid top 5 w 2 laps and a lapper took me out landing on my back after finish line ditch jump... I got up in 24th and caught back to 11th and they scored me wrong... Bikes were stollen a few days later and I didn't have $ or a ride... so I quit and never raced a dirtbike again. I made many top 5's in Mini A & 125A at Mini O's, Winter Ams... never had $ for traveling... sponsors were few...

Here's what I take away, Mike's dad's kind of crazy and made the boys kind of crazy, And you feel bad because, Tony kind of turned Mike into a pariah. In this context, i bet the Ivan Tedesco incident really doesn't seem any crazier or worse than anything GL did, or for sure Rhino, Or Bradshaw and kadrowski. I never thought I'd say this but I feel bad for the guy. You can tell Mike's been beat up too bad and treated like garbage by everybody. And if you have to nail it down to something it's probably over a T-shirt more than anything. Though I'm not sure who put it out there, but I do remember that rumor going around our dealership, everywhere in the pits at Millville, that he was gonna beat Ricky Carmichael his 1st race. I do have a feeling some of that was Put out there by Tony or somebody in their camp. But Stewart's dad was a disaster drove everybody crazy, and so was villopotos in a lot of ways, Seems like Mike got the short end of the stick and most of it is related to talking trash before his debut. Think if he hadn't done that and would've got a podium on a second race if he'd just come in quietly I think he'd be a hero right now. Poor guy, had too much pressure on him just like Stewart and other parents that put too much in their kids career. Great interview Mike I appreciate your honesty, count me as a fan.

It's funny when they were talking about the really bad mud race. He said he was really good because he could adapt quickly. Then when Ping says that even DV and Stew had a hard time, Mike says that's what separates the great riders from the good riders... Did he really call himself greater than Stew or even DV??? LOL, if I got anything from this interview, it's that Mike really loves himself.
