Had the same problem! Soaked it with penetrating oil for 10 days and didn’t work! Broke 3 t50! So I borrowed my buddies Heat induction bolt buster! It came off with no effort
TP50 bit and pray it isn't already stripped out! These even suck in the first 10 minutes after they get shot. the bolts are coated with locktite before they're installed. Occasionally I've used a grinder to grind a 'slot' in the bolt head and air chisled them out if I have the time on the assembly line. Exremely fun to try without ruining the rest of the bed. I don't have the rust to deal with though. I highly reccommend your method Wicked Spray. Makes the most sense. The heat alone helps immensely.
I`m getting ready to do mine so to simplify things I ordered a set of bed bolts and am prepared to cut the heads off if needed. At least it will save a bunch of time.
Like someone else said. They are TP50 bits. However, I broke the centers out of the bolts even when using the TP50 bits. Going to have to weld a nut on them
Most rust belt trucks fail the j-nut since it's likely half of it's original thickness, and the whole thing just spins around. Welding on the bolt wont help, so drilling or grinding is the only way
uh oh! doesn't look appealing. I was just about to take mine out but now maybe not. I can't weld and mine is 2010, and canadian weather. Why do u suppose they are so hard to get out? time/ wear and tear or are they factory sealed in there? I guess you tried oil around them beforehand too?
They might have lock-tite on them but I think it's corrosion that"s mostly the problem. Being that you're in Canada(i'm in eastern Washington so similar weather) I don't think oil will help much, Can't really get to the threads. The only other way I can think of is cut a slit in the top of the bolt so you can get a big flat head screwdriver on them. Use a screwdriver that doesn't have a round handle so you can use a wrench on it.
@@narfoxone9er971 "He just did the same thing you just said". Then you explain how he didn't do what I said. Contradictory sentence, also it was asking a question. You can buy cheap ass sockets then cut them off the old bolt and reuse it for the others. Also, you can use an impact on it too if the breaker bar doesn't work. So maybe when someone asks a legitimate questions, shut the fuck up.
I hope you’re not a mechanic garage or run a shop because you used the wrong tools for this. Of course a T50 will strip... you’re supposed to use a TP50! Torx Plus bits are what you’re supposed to use

I've run into the exact same problem. I was only able to get 6 of the 8 bed bolts out on my 2007 F250. Thanks for the idea!
I did the same thing several times until I discovered you need Torx Plus bits.
This right here.

Thanks man. I didnt want to cut these bolts off and damage my bed. Ive done this before, but I was in tunnel vision mode.

Ok children if you run into this situation get a high quality cobalt drill bit and drill the tops off of each bolt then pick the bed up and off
Why would you do this if you had a welder? You make no sense
@@narfoxone9er971 you make no sense. Everyone doesn't have a welder

just curious, what was your welder settings. great video
Great video

Great, now I have to buy a welder. lol
If your planning on saving those t-50's...Get under there and heat those bolts up cherry red 1 at at time- they'll come out without breaking your bit.
StayingBack71 lol fucken ford anyways... i striped out 2 bolts and broke my only t50 bit
i tried that on my 2011 f250 still had to end up doing what this guy did in the video
Damn why didn't I think of that just weld a big ass nut on there thanks for sharing
Wow do all companies use those shitty bolt heads
Why not weld a useless deep socket, then use a breaker bar?
Hey smart guy he just did the same thing you just said except he didn't waste a socket or his energy with a breaker bar. God damn you people are thick

They are TORX PLUS BOLTS, not torx. either way. stupid design.
perfect
That sucks
Why were you sliding the bed back? To access the fuel pump? Did this idea work?
You could do that or just drop the gas tank either drain the fuel or use a motorcycle jack or transmission jack
Exactly what i did with my 2 t50s
We’re you using t50 or the larger t50p bot sockets?
@@urbanlumberjack Never even heard of a t50p but hey the tighter the better
Fucking ford anyways.. i stripped out 2 bolts. And broke my only t50 bit
