The actors that portrayed the physical turtles in costumes have cameo roles. The guy that plays Leonardo is a gang member in the warehouse when Casey fights Tatsu (the actor later acted in the movie Ready Player One as the Japanese guy that lost all his stuff in the OASIS and tried jumping out his work window). The guy that plays Donatello is the foot clan member that slaps April in the subway. The actor that played Raph in the costume is the only actor to also voice the character. 7:03 the pizza delivery guy is the actor in the Michelangelo suit. 9:15 the passenger in the back of the taxi is the actor that’s inside the Raph suit. 8:51 funny he sounds like Mikey when he says “Well” to Casey. When the actor landed in the trash can the animatronics and face mask caved in and broke the stunt guys nose and he had to be replaced. If you watch when Raph stands up before they cut away you can see the stunt man grab Raph’s nose. 10:41 this one was so dark that parents complained and they made the second one lighter. 16:57 as a kid I wished we had a place like that where we can have fun (without the cigarettes. Had no smoking drilled into me at a young age). 20:45 you mean Raph and Leo clash a lot. 26:32 originally he was dead but the movie ratings board objected to the scene so at the last minute they added the voices telling the kid he will be ok. The French version has the kid dying. 28:37 well you gotta keep his body moist. The tub is the best way. 34:00 in the sewer you can only see so far and you know in your mind if there’s an earthquake (doesn’t matter where you are in your mind it could happen) you could get stuck down there. I was mildly claustrophobic until I turned 30 then I was more severely claustrophobic. I can’t be in an MRI machine without being sedated. 38:17 Sam Rockwell he played Hammer in Iron Man 2. 43:26 pretty sure that fall killed him. Casey just accidentally crushed the corpse. If he didn’t say “oops” then it wouldn’t have been an accident. 45:55 this was a great soundtrack. 46:01 no it’s not Shock G from The Digital Underground. The group is Partners in Kryme comprised of the duo DJ Keymaster Snow(James Alpern) & MC Golden Voice (Richard Usher).

The movie is actually an amalgamation of different issues from the original Mirage comics. They were catered to teens and adults. It wasn't until the 1987 cartoon that the Ninja Turtles became mainstream and for children.

However for the 2012 Ninja turtles on Nickelodeon they ended up putting that original storyline into it to where Leo got taken out of commission, basically paying homage to this movie.

Splinter taken away used to scare me the first few times i saw this movie.
I recall first seeing it around 1996-97, while visiting an aunt. My cousin played it. And i could have sworn the turtles were dreaming about splinter KILLED! And if you look carefully, when the camera focuses on the pile / mess when Leonardo says "SPLINTER" , looks like a mask / a "head" on the top of the pile/ mess. The first time i saw this, i could have sworn it was DEAD SPLINTER!
Saw the movie again around Thanksgiving 2001. Paying attention to the music when the lair is shown trashed, the "mask" / "head" atop the pile/mess , and especially Raphael's scream.....used to scare me back then.

Oroku Saki was avenging his brother, not interested in the girl at all. Yoshi and Oroku's brother were the top two students within their ninshu, very much rivals with Yoshi possessing great calm and insight while his friend/rival had great passion and courage. Both were in love with the same girl, if that were all then Yoshi would've backed off and left them be, but it wasn't, she loved Yoshi, too, and despised the clan she was born into. As she was already engaged to someone who adored her, this caused problems. Those of the same clan know one another and can not lie to each other any more successfully than one brother can lie to another, so Oroku's brother challenged Yoshi to a duel that would decide who was worthy to both marry her and lead the Dragon Print/Foot Clan.
She knew it did not matter who won, she'd lose as she'd then be wed to the head of the clan she hates and never be "free" so she begged Yoshi to not arrive at the duel, to flee to America with her where they would be free to marry and not have to live in darkness, stealing, killing, and sabotaging for the sake of 'family'. He agreed, but Oroku's brother, incessed at the disrespect shown to their clan and himself by fleeing from an honor duel, chased after them. Due to bad timing, misfortune, and miscommunication (baaad choice of words), Yoshi ended up killing Oroku's brother then fled to America which, it turned out, wasn't as great as she imagined it. Neither was working for an honest living.
It wasn't adventurous or glamorous, not to a girl of noble lineage whom had always the finest things and a head full of dreams. She hated it as much as she had their clan, but Yoshi had no problem, working everyday in the belief this was what she wanted and she loved him for that despite feeling she was cheapenin him/lessening him. Yoshi had been the leader that everyone, including Oroku's brother, had genuinely wanted to see become the leader and believed with his skill/spiritual mix he would change their clan for the better. After years without practice, the once prodigy had become middling.
Oroku Saki, on the other hand, had trained obsessively and studied extensively expecting to face the Bruce Lee of Ninjutsu (even learning to wear/use specialized armor in case it was needed) but instead got an exhausted, out of practice, malnourished, and impoverished shadow of the man he had once admired. A man whom had betrayed his family, his friend, his teachers, his school, his comrades, and his own honor for a foolish girl; a man that died too easily.
It was disappointing, as if Oroku was the one that should be ashamed instead of Yoshi. He hated the girl and blamed her for everything, hating her more after stalking the couple for several weeks of study, but slaying Yoshi was a matter of honor, something that must be done if he was to become the next leader. He was a good man, yes, but a fool for love and foolish acts lead to foolish ends. Cowards, traitors, and deserters in possession of such secrets and skill could not be allowed. Yoshi's death was the last task assigned to Oroku Saki by the previous Leader. The wife was straight up murdered because Oroku hated her and blamed her for all of it. Yoshi was known for his honor, he surely would not have commited such a betrayal if not for her or this was what Oroku Saki thought.

The Ninja Turtle comic book was mad violent. They definitely cleaned it up massively to make it a movie different ages could watch. Heck, in the comic Casey Jones is literally a homi•••cidal maniac. His mask is like an homage to sla••sh••ers.

Fun fact with Desai only the tips are sharp typical size aren't actually supposed to be sharp because they are meant for only defense. And actually if you look at each one of their weapons mean something to the turtles. Like Mikey being scatterbrain he got the nunchucks with those you mess up even a little bit they will do damage to you, so the dump truck supposed to teach Mikey self-control. Raft size are like I said for defense meanwhile with raffia Hot heads he is fully offensive so the size of supposed to dial him back to not just rush into a fight but you think also defensively. With Leo and the katanas it's literally the exact opposite of wrath where Leo is more defensive but katanas are one of the most offensive weapons in the Japanese arsenal. And the bo staff for donnie, with Donnie being more into technology the bo staff is supposed to humble him and remind him that when your technology fails go back to the basics.

I've never seen the particular show myself, but I believe in one of the more recent iterations of TMNT, they changed it so that Raphael was the leader. At least, that's what I've read.
