Using my EOB Strat sometimes I will "play" my pedals while letting one or two notes ring out indefinitely. Right now my typical pedal setup for doing this is usually a couple overdrives, Walrus Audio Julia chorus, Boss GE-7 EQ, Red Panda Tensor and Particle (these are the MVPs of the setup), three delays and a Walrus Audio Slö Reverb along with all the effects on my Boss Katana. I've managed to create some really awesome soundscapes doing this that can venture far far away from what one would typically associate with the guitar. Doing this is so fun for me, it's basically like playing a completely new instrument.

My wife surprised me with one of these for Xmas. It’s the most fun guitar I own.
Don’t be dissuaded if it sounds shit out of the box. Mine needed a significantly altered setup, and research on adjusting the trim pots in the fernandez circuitry. After adjusting the pickup heights to taste, you can really dial in how responsive the sustainer is on every setting.

Great video and checked out spotify too, great work will continue to listen! Do you find that your EOB strat struggles to naturally sustain when no fx/amps are on? I've noticed this on mine (especially around the 7th fret) and I noticed you said adding an amp/distortion to get some more sustain. I think blocking the trem is probably the best way to get some natural sustain back but just curious what your experiences are overall as well as setup tips. Thanks!
Thanks for checking out the music! When talking sustain do you mean with the sustainer pickup or just typical guitar sustain? For regular guitar sustain I haven't noticed any difference versus my other fender guitars, but if I did I would either try blocking the trem as you mentioned if I'm not plugged in, or a compressor pedal would really help in that case if you are plugged in. String gauge might be a thing to mess around with as well (I use regular slinky 10s).
If you mean the sustainer pickup is on, there are certain areas of the neck that don't seem to sustain as well I have noticed. I end up just using finger vibrato to sort of get the note to ring longer. I do know that if you open up the guitar, there is a small screw inside the sustainer electronics that you can adjust to make the pickup "grab" the notes either slower or faster... I think they refer to it as an Attack control. Hope that helps!
Great video, love your playing and creativity. I got an EOB stratocaster used in pretty good shape, there are some "dead spots" where the sustain dies out, do you experience that? I'm hoping to tweak the pots on the back and ramp it up. Also any string suggestions for ultimate sustain? Does it matter?
Yes there are definitely sweet spots for the sustain, especially if your battery is low. I have not experimented with the pots in the back or different strings unfortunately. Let me know if it has made a difference for you!
Dope video dude. How does an e-bow compare to this beyond the obvious part of "you have to hold the e-bow?" Also I love S-Gear, it's my amp sim of choice.
S-Gear is pretty rad 👍
As far as the ebow, it can only vibrate one string at a time, while this can sustain entire chords if you like. And yes, not holding an ebow opens your hand up for trem bar madness, etc.
Great demo! Thinking about picking one of these up but, due to various circumstances, it would be my only guitar for a while. Aside from the excellent ambient capabilities of the electronics, how would you rate the guitar itself in terms of playability, neck/fingerboard/fret feel and traditional tonal capabilities? Can that bottom JB pickup carry much gain, if I want to play heavy? Appreciate your time and feedback!
I've had it for a while now and it's still my #1. It's a slightly bigger neck than most my other guitars but I like that about it. The bridge pickup puts out plenty of gain, and I use it quite often with fuzz/distortion. Cheers!

Very good, even if I go overboard with it this guitar doesn't fall out of tune.
its good but not crazy good like a Vega or FR
Personally I put another spring on the tremelo, two springs was just too unstable for me.
@@Otherglow Interesting, personally the two spring tremelo was giving me major tuning problems when I first got my EOB Strat. Just a nudge would send it flying out of tune. I had to add an extra spring to the tremelo to fix the problem.

Not really the same, but the freeze pedal is still super cool.
@europa: def not the same, the Freeze works better (for me). With the EOB, the sustain note (or chord) lasts only as long as you hold it on the neck. Lift your fingers, the sound is gone. The freeze sustains things forever. Better for creating sound patches, and jamming to a drone…..but I guess it depends on your intentions…
@@whatwasithinking6139 in hindsight, I probaly shopuld have got an infinite hold reverb. Everything I do on the Plus Pedal ends up sounding that way anyway. The limitation there is me and my creativity or lack there of.
1:22 i just wanna say that alllll metal strings vibrating have magnetic field. And picking up that magnetic field's vibrations is the purpose of all pickups. The difference is the susteniac has a circuit that serves as a brickwall-compressor making the sounds that generally fade away as the vibration diminishes go up, making it saturate instead of fading.
Not correct. On both counts. Firstly, metal strings do NOT generate magnetic fields. Open an E string from a pack of strings - make it vibrate by snapping it tight and pulling it hard in opposite direction from both ends - then have someone use a a Gauss meter to see if there's ANY magnetic field there. There won't be. Secondly the pickup in the rhythm position sends out the magnetic pulse to the strings based on the frequency (the note) that the bridge pickup captured and fed into to that rhythm pickup. And thus a magnetic pulse vibrating in frequency causes the metal strings to respond. I have three guitars with these circuits and there is NO compression. In fact, when you plug a 1/4" jack into the guitar (this is what turns on the circuit) but don't plug the other end into anything, and pluck a string, you can literally FEEL and hear the strings sustain from across the room, again, WITHOUT it being plugged in to anything such as amps, pedals, console etc..., at all.
