✅ Is HERE something for you? ➡️ amzn.to/3Hi7tEy *
The most annoying thing about winter is when you go outside and want to drive away in your car, but the windows are frozen. De-icing the car windows is a task that probably no one likes to do. So you get out your ice scraper and scrape the window free again. In the process, your fingers freeze off and you don't feel like de-icing the windows.
Therefore, I show you in this video how you can de-ice car windows without scratching. Because you can make your own deicer really easy. All you need is water, a spray bottle and Windshiled de-icer. Because this can de-ice your windows in seconds and the homemade mixture is much cheaper than the windshield de-icer to buy.
To make it, put 1 part water and 2 parts windshiled de-icer in your spray bottle. And when your windshield is iced up, spray this windshield deicer on your windshield and side windows and in a few seconds the ice will start to melt. You only have to turn on the windshield wiper again and your windshield will be deiced in seconds.
Try this ingeniously simple trick but also with your car necessarily once!

Anti-freeze is damaging to your car’s paintwork and the rubber window seals. Also using the wipers to clear the still frosted windscreen will very quickly damage the wiper blades and cause them to leave large un-wiped streaks.
Yeah this video should be deleted
Edit: or maybe not
Someone suggest that this was damaging to your car. What he is using is the same Window Washing Anti- freeze. While I can't read the writing, the logo in the upper left of the label is the giveaway. Haven't had any problem using that. He just didn't mention it was Window Washer anti-freeze.
Car engine anti freeze has a lubricant package to keep rubber seals conditioned in the water pump.
Hmm. There is a -40degree windshield fluid
@@safetyfirstintexas ... water pumps do not have rubber seals.

50% alcohol (95 percent) + 50% tap water, done.

To those alarmed by his suggestion, he meant the use of windscreen cleaning fluid (the good stuff "Halfords -20c" etc) in a 1:1 ratio with water. He didn't mean antifreeze coolant which would be a really bad idea.
But that’s not what he shows in the video? Also, he shows Lidl’s own W5, not anything particularly good.
Would windscreen cleaning fluid even work?
1 : 2 ratio
Right, so this video reveals the 'secret' of how to apply windscreen de-icer. Useful if you couldn't read the instructions on the back of the bottle. What a waste of internet bandwidth, get off UA-cam.

He also made scraping instead of scratching the problem is this video is very confusing and somebody's going to do something stupid that's going to end up costing them because of it.
We use a 2 gallon garden sprayer with winter windshield fluid & keep this in the truck for spraying down door seals & windows. Works great in winter after washing vehicle then spraying down all door seals & tail gates.
... if you treat your door seals with silicone the water is not absorbed, and they won't freeze. Likewise, silicone the door jamb and wipe clean of any dirt. The dirt holds moisture. Clean paint does not!
In English anti freeze is the term used for the fluid in the radiator which is toxic to animals etc. The bottle you show has windshield decider ( I read German ) Please don’t tell people to use anti freeze.
In The Netherlands we have "anti freeze wiper spray fluid" and we have "anti freeze coolant"
In the US we just wait until spring
That you. In the US we call it windshield washer fluid or wiper fluid NOT, antifreeze.
Antifreeze is VERY dangerous and toxic. Many animals die every year from antifreeze poisoning. It tastes sweet to animals and they will lap It up BUT, IT'S DEADLY!

Makes you wonder why he just didn’t just use his window wiper fluid and just spray it on the window. Just don’t hold down the wiper control for too long so it only sprays instead of spraying and wiping. And if that is the case why even bother making this silly video!
Warm not hot tap water does the trick, been doing it for 44 years. Don't use boiling water as it will crack your windscreen. Plus using your wipers on an icy surface will knacker your wiper blades.
Someone with some common sense at last 👍 you could also urinate on it works great if your locks are frozen Bear Grylls drinks his so can’t be that bad ,so did Rolf Harris but look what happened to him!
@@stevelake3541 Thanks for the compliment Steve. I used to piss on our old garage padlock (in the seventies) when it was frozen up in winter time but I wasn't going to mention that.
I just use cold water from the tap also, gets the majority off quickly.
The exact trick I have been using for years. No idea why other people have to make things complicated.
Warm water out of a jug (not hot) melts the ice instantly. Being doing that for 40yrs and no cracked windows
Yes. Me too. No need to buy products
👍👍 Yeap the whole process takes less than 30 seconds
A watering can of luke warm water does the whole car , of frost .👍👍
Same. Not for 40 years though 🤣
Same here but for 27 years, never use hot as it will crack the glass.
Do not use anti freeze ! Use rubbing alcohol/water instead.
Seem to have better results w water & alcohol.
You can buy isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle cheap. Better choice.
Rubbing alcohol has a lot of water in it. Instead, get the "Heet" gas treatment red bottle, not the yellow. It's isopropyl alcohol. You can also add it to your windshield washer tank to prevent cold weather hazing in the morning.
You right, bro. But you can use just clean ethyl alcohol. Also sprinkle, after 1-2 minutes - clean degreased glass. Alcohol, by the way, warms up the surface of the glass a little. And let this wanker at least pour gasoline. He doesn't even realize that he's shitting the glass with greasy antifreeze so that he can smear it with wipers later.
He means window wash for -60°C/-76*F. That's german on the label - and as a german I can tell you it works^^ I just do the same. Just mix it down to the needed temperature (he has a 1:2 mix for -40°C/-40*F - yes, that's for some reason the same^^)
That spraybottle could be handy to have in the car when it happens during odd places... but, if you are starting from home or work just have 2 large drinking water sport bottles, fill up with room/luke warm water. You deice the windows on your car in 30 secs.... only cost pennies in water. The thermal mass of that water easily overcomes the frost/ice layer. (be sure to brush off the snow beforehand tho)
He doesn’t use coolant antifreeze. The can he is showing is washing fluid for the windscreen. He just doesn’t just use the internal spray system to give the antifreeze a little more time to melt the ice before the wipers are switched on.
He should state that then.
Yes however how many people didn't see that and go grab their prestone ! Glad to see all the comments warning people about the damage antifreeze does to paint and rubber .
That’s probably a language thing. In German „Frostschutz“ is used for washing fluid. What is called antifreeze in English would be „Kühlwasser“ (cooling water) or „Kühler Frostschutz“ (coolant antifreeze) in German. Probably he doesn’t know the common meaning in English.
He should be clear in describing the type of antifreeze he is using.
@@valerierodger7700 or just learn to read German, duh...
I just put a large beach towel over my windshield, then catch it in the doors on both sides.
Then in the morning or after work, I take the towel off, no scraping, spraying....nothing. Just shake off the towel, fold it up and drive away.
And you're good to go to the beach. err, uh, after it warms up.
Even better than the video
Just a FYI, they sell a cover kit at Sam's club for 15dollars, it covers your windshield and your mirrors , I got it for Christmas, works like a charm, a little small for my F150, but it covers 95% of the windshield
@@victorcortez4369 That works too. Can't imagine spraying or scraping a window, unless I absolutely have to.
Use an old bed sheet. Cover the windshield completely and close it in the doors. Take it off when you are ready to drive. Put it back on when you park. No ice on windshield.
I used to use a double layer of bubble wrap on my old works van's screen in winter (At first because I'd usually have a 3' wide roll of the stuff in the back. :D). It won't freeze to the window, and it works like cheap and cheerful sheet of insulation, so as long as it doesn't go WAY below freezing, any remaining warmth in the car from the day's sunshine keeps the glass just far enough above freezing to keep the screen clear.
One small problem. If it rains, the sheet will direct water into the vehicles interior.
I'm seeing the comments about freezing rain and obviously the sheet thing would not be useful in those situations. I live in the deep south and those conditions are rare. When we get freezing temps it is sometimes mixed with sleet and the sheet works. I feel for those who have to endure freezing rain and harsh temps on a regular basis, much less having to drive in those conditions. Stay safe and keep warm, everybody!
Because we have a lot of ice snow mix, your bedsheet would be frozen to the windshield. 😄
I cut a large trash bag (30 gal) down each side. Then I have a long narrow piece of plastic that I lay on the windshield, then close the ends in the doors as you say. Works great for frost and snow and reusable. They also sell something similar at Walmart.
You can also use rubbing alcohol in replace of the antifreeze. 2 part alcohol, 1 part water mix. Use cold water. Might be clear too, since you are not using a poisonous chemical to defrost your windshields.
“Thick layer of ice.” Here in Minnesota we get a layer like that in June. 😂😂😂
Having lived in a cold climate, if you slice a potato in half, and rub the exposed side on your windscreen, all over, the night before, the glycerine in the potato will stop ice from forming overnight. If you don't have a spud, turn your ignition on, then the wipers on, and then turn them off when they are about to reach the upright position. If you have any in this day and age, place some newspapers over the windscreen, and the wipers will hold them in place. If don't have a newspaper, use something similar, that you can throw away in the morning, not recommended if you live in a rainy or windy area during the night. When it's that cold these conditions don't usually occur.
The other alternative is to drink at least ten Gin and Tonics the night before, more if you are still able to hold the bottle steady, and don't go to work the next day. Phone in and say an old bout of Malaria has flared up, and you don't feel safe to drive. You can use this one several times, until they get wise to you, by then you have already lined up another job, then drop a turd on the boss's desk, as a going-away gift. However, don't cite me as a reference as a defence in court.
I've given up snorting Prozac, now that the voices in my head have stopped taking in Spanish.
Remember, love with your heart, and use your head for everything else.
Or more simply. Cover the windshield with a window cover.
Probably the best solution, it take far less time and effort to cover the screen than scraping, de-iceing
I use one. It covers the front windscreen and has two pockets to cover the side mirrors. Works great on the glass it covers.
Windshield solvent/ cleaner (NOT antifreeze for the radiator!) in a spray bottle, one in the house and one in the car. Use on the locks too, works great
Or just put a cover over your screen to prevent the frost settling. Take it off the next morning, job done in seconds. And your paintwork not damaged. 😊
I grew up in Wisconsin. My dad took a half gallon jug of cold water out on the coldest mornings and poured it onto his windshield. Clear as a bell, no ice left on the glass, and never a crack. Just remember not to use hot water.
How cold was it there? Because when I do it or what he says in the video, my windshield starts to form ice crystals that block my view immediately.
@@nesli I'e used it all over the country, from Tennessee to Pennsylvania to Wisconsin to Idaho and Colorado. I use cold tap water, straight from the tap, so it's pretty cold in winter. I've never had the crystal problem. You might try turning on your wipers while you pour on the cold water. Those aerosol cans of deicer from the auto supply places work pretty well, too. Good luck.
Dishwashing liquid, works at least as well and it doesn't damage the car. A couple of spoonfuls in water and shake the squirty bottle. Been using it for years.
I will try that! Thanks

That always puts a film on my windows
@@sixpackbinky Indeed! Need to go lightly with the rubbing alcohol, learned that the hard way. Now we use windshield washer fluid if one of our vehicles hasn’t been in the garage.
Another way to keep your wipers longer is to when you are getting gas, use the windshield squeegee to clean your windows and if it also has a scrubber pad, use it to wipe both sides of your wiper blade. This cleans the accumulated gunk from them.
I use a bucket of "WARM" water with a methylated spirts mixed in I use about a cup but you will need to adjust for bucket size the methylated spirits stops the water refreezing. I also carry a spray bottle with a proportions about the same as yours for when I am away from home.
Tried this a few years ago and it doesn't work, at least in Canada where freezing temperatures can't be compared to Europe. Alcohol might do a better job in milder climes. And don't prop up your wipers, you'll damage the spring mechanism. Best way to go is cover your windshield before snowfalls or freezing nights. Then peel away in the morning.
+ I think he meant windshield cleaning liquid, not anti-freeze

Room temp water is the cats meow!
I've been pouring hot tap water on car and truck windows for well over 50 years now and have never seen one cracking of any glass. Laminated vehicle glass is far tougher than most people know. Start near the roof, pour slowly in one area and if the doors aren't frozen shut, get in and start the vehicle, turn on the blower motor on high and then wait 3 to 5 minutes or go back in and grab another cup of coffee, those minutes you just wasted will now find your window thawing half done. Might be better if you aren't going to work to just let the windows thaw on their own, warm sunlight permitting. Or just skip it and when the Spring thaw comes, start driving again. I have two plastic water pitchers that hold 2-1/2 quarts each. Usually enough to clear moderate to heavy frost and maybe a second trip to the sink to get enough HOT TAP WATER to knock out heavy ice coatings, that's just 10 quarts of hot water. One pitcher of hot water in one hand and my favorite Lucite plastic ice scraper in the other, and I'm ready! Ready to hand it over to my wife and let her clear her own windows...
Look for a decent plastic waterproof bag and put some hot(not boiling) water in it. Close the bag and carefully move it around the frozen window. From the defrosted parts the ice/water should be removed directly. It’s also a fast, easy and quick method.
@@BelTricky yes that would also work well.

Or just buy ready made window de-icer.
Stick a 2 litre bottle of water near your radiator, to keep it warm, but not hot.
Then when you need it, pour out the contents over all your car windows.
Lean the bottle over, and run it across the top of each window, to let the water run down the full height of the windows.
Start with the widescreen, then move to the other windows and side mirrors, then back to the windscreen to empty the bottle.
Pouring more water over the widescreen helps warm it up just enough, so when you drive the wind chill doesn't refreeze the water.
The rear window has a heating element, and the side windows don't see the same direct airflow.
Works every time.
Doesn't use any chemicals.
Doesn't cost even a penny.

Do you know that you can damage your car with this procedure ? The engine needs to warm up in winter. But not on idle. Seriously I damaged my engine block that way. Because if you defrost your windshield with AC on, you have to turn on the cold engine and wait for defrosting. This way the leaner mixture flows into the engine injection and damages the cold engine. You need rich mixture, so turn on the engine and drive immediately , but you cannot because you do not see through the window :D (unless you have independent car heating)

Now I don't use anything on the screen, I don't even touch it and it costs me virtually nothing. Half fill your kettle with water and switch on for a short while until the water is tepid, and I mean TEPID. Pour over the screen from the top and it will instantly melt the ice. Switch wipers on to dry the screen immediately and you've completed the task without any contact within a couple of seconds. Same for the rear screen too. You decide if your window rubbers are good enough to do the doors preventing the water from entering.
I've used this method for 20+ yrs and as long as you don't overheat the water which would risk cracking the screen you're fine.
I use a spray bottle filled with isopropyl alcohol. No mixing. Cheap. Works fast.
First that was frost not ice, that makes a big difference. Second they make windshield wash/deicer in a jug. Just like wash fluid , just make you have on your winter wipers on ( the ones you going to throw away in the spring )

i tried this 2 times. had to buy a new car twice. lol
There are many co. Like rainx that sell products to put in as windshield washer fluid for this application.
You can actually get windscreen de-icer already prepared in a spray bottle very cheaply from your local supermarket! (I found it to actually be cheaper than buying one of those empty spray bottles! 😊👍
Don't tell everyone the Secret!
Это не проблема, проблема, когда сантиметр льда и по всей машине. А из-за этой мелочи ещё нюхать антифриз, так себе идея.
1. Get in car
2. Start engine
3. Put radio on
4. Put heaters on
5. Wait a while
6. Go
Can't do that in a Canadian winter.
Here is what most do.
Command start your car from inside your warm house.
Do this 2 or 3 times until vehicle is warm, then get in and drive away.
At minus 30 you aren't going to sit in there until it warms up.
Personally I find that putting my car in the garage prevents ice on my car windows.
I do recognise that I am the only person in Southwest England who actually uses his garage as a place to store his car, rather than as an ad hoc junk storage locker. But there we have it. I spent 40 years living in the midwestern US, a place where it really gets cold. A place where engine block heaters and battery trickle chargers are a must-have for a guaranteed winter starts. So I get sort of a chuckle watching my neighbours go into panic mode when there's a degree or two of frost in the air.
Warm water + salt in a squirter, been using it for over 20 years and no problems thus far :)
Alternatively, turn the engine on and warm the inside of the screen with the fan. you're cars warm when you're ready to drive off.
the worst idea of all
You keep your secret, it's a killer.
Technique shown in this video works best when materials are heated to 120° F before pouring on windshield in sufficient quantity to do the job. I've never had any luck with any chemical de-icers unless they are heated first. Including the garbage sold for that purpose under various brand names in aerosol cans. We deiced farm trucks for 40 years with warm water. When ice is 1/4 inch or more thick use hotter water. Never once a problem.
Great way to F..... up the paintwork & the wiper blades at the same time...ingenious..
Just pour cold, not hot water over the screen
... and wipe immediately, if not, freeze again
This idea is very bad to use antifreeze in this form. This will negatively affect the ecology and paintwork of the car! Never do that!
I do the same thing but I use de-icer windshield fluid. It works faster than what I saw on this video.
@@valerierodger7700 oh you’re right. I didn’t see the windshield symbol. Then I do the same but I don’t dilute the liquid.
Add some isopropanol to your screen wash, keeps screen wash tubes etc from freezing, easily cleans your windscreen of grease/road grime and eats through ice/frost very quickly.
Ummm NO this will ruin your freaking paint! Wow.
Much quicker with boiling water or a flame thrower. Especially if you are doing it to your bosses car, when he just made you reduntant.
What kind of antifreeze is that? What I'm used to (ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol) is more syrupy and, as noted in another comment, is bad for the paint. Windshield washer fluid rated for temperature below your ambient is an alternative, safe for paint, and comes in large jugs already mixed and ready to use. Another option just to mix two parts 70% rubbing alcohol (from the pharmacy, quite cheap around here) with one part water; the result will defrost down to around -20 C (or straight from the bottle, that 70% isopropyl will defrost down to about -40 C).
Thank you
If you spray anything on the “windscreen”, wont it get all over the steering wheel and seats? You should be able to see through all the little holes anyway.
Just slowly pour on 2 buckets of warm (Not boiling) water. This way the screen will also warm up and not re-freeze while you wait for the heaters to get up to temp.
A lot of doom-mongers reckon that this will crack the screen but this has never happened to me in over 20 years of using this method.
I lost an audi screen , and that was only using cold water ,,, dont do it.
but this has never happened to me in over 20 years of using this method. You going to pay for my windscreen when it shatters ? :)
@@richard6440 No
nah. here in upper MN we just get out the scraper (I've never experienced any scratches on the windshield). it has the added benefit of doing some light exercise to warm up the body.
Windshield deicer / water mix sprayed on works good.
It may work but it kinda stinks for the environment. Antifreeze can kill animals, especially pets because they are drawn to the sweetness. All you have to do is swish that ice on the ground and any animal that comes along and licks it is dead. Better to preheat up your car and melt off the ice naturally.
Wrong. Winter windshield washer fluid does not have ethylene glycol in it, which is the toxic substance in the antifreeze used in coolant.
Sempre geniale Smart Fox!!Grazie grazie e ancora grazieeee...domani mattina proverò con la mia povera macchinina!!!😘
That's a cool twick, I'm gonna try it.
When the windscreen is that cold, I find ice from exhaled water-vapour freezes on the inside, so I still need to stop and wait for the heater and aircon to do the job.
I agree. If you don’t heat the inside also, it fogs up so you’re still stuck. Your best bet is waiting for the car to warm up and melt everything.
Эта идея очень плохая, чтобы использовать антифриз в таком виде.Это отрицательно скажется на экологии и лакокрасочном покрытии автомобиля! Никогда не делайте так!
Thanks my friend, God Bless You 🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🙌
Half water/ half alcohol actually works very well. And without the antifreeze solution possible damage to the car. Or hurt an animal if they digest it. Since the alchol solution doesn't freeze, we keep a bottle in all our cars for away from home. We have one not in the car, so we don't have to open the car door before we clean off the windows.
I just use 70% alcohol.
I tried it and it worked great.
With corona, when i leave the house, I always got the 70% alcohol/ethanol with me. (no alcohol gel). So when i leave the house the alcohol/ethanol is warm(20°C) and it does frees until -144°C.
bought two 5l 70% alcohol/ethanol for €14 and a 200ml alcohol spay bottle for €3 that i just refill.
I have got no idea what the effects on my car are. But i'm used to replacing the wipers every year because we got some nasty sticky leaves trees that ruin the wipers.
Ford cars in the pinto era had a bag under the hood for window washing fluid and it said to put ford antifreeze in it.
does it work if you spray THE NIGHT BEFORE ?
Get some -35° washer fluid use the same way works way better, I live in northern montana, lots of severe cold, and ice. Thaws frozen doors also, won't harm rubber or paint.
I find it easier if i just use some luke-warm water and splash it on the glass...works everytime, been doing this for years!
