Discovered the song on Ed Blaney's brilliant Mark E. Smith Tribute and now of course have to like every version I find on UA-cam. What a masterpiece directly aiming towards each and every footballfans heart ⚽❤.
Class. I'm sure all of the football oiks will not understand this as it is so far removed from Three Lions and the like. Great to see MES having a bit of a giggle.
You know... as much as we adore MES, he would likely despise each and every one of us.... and that is ( part of ) why we adore him in the first place. VIVA MES
By far the best football song, though Morrissey's one with the line ' and the songs we sing they aren't supposed to mean a thing ' is a contender. On ' Your Arsenal '
@SpaceBambino The Fall toured with U2 in the late-80s,because they needed the money at the time.Ever since Peel died the exposure The Fall have got has been mostly fan boy journalists name-checking them or maybe reviewing the albums. In the last couple of years, I think MES has not only done some strange but great collaborations (V.Sud,Ed Blaney) but also tried to get The Fall "out there" more,ie. signing to Domino and doing this Gorillaz thing. He was the best thing on that stage at Glastonbury.
Fantatical Fall fans reckon MES has what they call pre-cog. He wrote Sparta FC just before Greece won the European Cup of Nations in 2004, the fact he's done his first England World Cup song this year is significant, unlikely as it seems England will win the World Cup - MES has seen it.
It is interesting how, historically, the south of England could not defeat Scotland (sic) because the north of England maintained the divide against both but WTFall man!!
I don't begrudge Mark being happy in the haze of yet another drunken hour but as someone who's followed The Fall's music from when John Peel first played Repetition and saw them live from Slates era onwards... y'know FFS stop being sycophantic about this addled crap, the guy may have been a force of nature who made a lot of truly great stuff, but don't deny that he pissed most of his brain cells up the wall!
@RayZappa Listen to "Your Future Our Clutter" if you think Mark could not make good music after many years of drug abuse and alcoholism. It is a killer album. Most musicians make their best music in their younger years, MES was no exception to this.
@@blankeon6613 Fair comment, that's a really good album and I also like the track 'Taking Off' from the following album Ersatz GB. I think I was really taking issue with how uncritical people seem to be of the really addled stuff.

This just put a gigantic silly grin on my face. And, Lord--do I need one. Love it!

Nope. He was a good bloke. I met him before the group was formed. No side.
National Anthem!

He & The Fall were the best thing on Glastonbury 2010 & 2015.

Wow, nice song. Mark E. Smith looks almost looks like he's healthy enough to do an AARP ad.
Coool vid & song :-)

is that the new Das Gruppe in early training for the future?
How good is this??
It is so good, people still talk about it twelve years later😀
It is interesting how, historically, the south of England could not defeat Scotland (sic) because the north of England maintained the divide against both but WTFall man!!
Superb. This sounds like it fell off Extricate and is the best WC song for decades.
Disappointed it's not a John Shuttle worth Collab...
Live at the garden centre opening...

This is worse than the song Ricky Tomlinson released for this world cup and I haven't even heard that yet.
the worst thing he's ever released.

Exactly the same here, now. Love it!
