We're here in sunny and hottt South Carolina, USA! We are in the "Golden Corner", northwest, near the beginning of the Appalachian Trail.
We are considered to be in zone 7 and 8 as we are at the foothills of the mountains which get cooler temps than the rest of the state in the winter months. But, we get incredibly hot summers indeed!
I am blessed to have been born and raised here. And, I have a cottage style home, nearing 100yo in an older neighborhood with lots of massive trees.
I love working in the beds and delighting in the sounds, like you, of birds, children playing, hoot owls, and the sweet smells of the garden!
Many blessings as your book is taking off! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your enchanting world!

I write from Ontario, Canada, where we have been alternating between lots of rain and lots of hot humidity.
I have found that my gardens go from stages of exciting expansion - to responsibility and burden, when the garden owns me. Such a narrow line between! All it takes is life events, illness, poor weather and I'm in a bad way.
When things are good and easy, don't they just look beautiful! Then comes the season change and we start all over again. I used to think I had to do it all on the first good spring weekend, which was a recipe for feeling like a failure.
This spring I had to get some help due to my own illness, and it still took a month just to clean up. Good thing the work is therapeutic.
I am feeling better now, but there is so much to catch up on everywhere else that I can't even find time to weed. And still, I sit and read my book when the urge strikes just to remind myself of the whole purpose of having a lovely garden :)
Yesterday was my 60th birthday and I made it known that I was open to cute little garden chachkas. I have a few little ceramic mushrooms, stained glass birds, hanging feeders, copper chimes, etc., all for colourful decoration, but needing no care!
Love to you and your mom xo

Thank you so much for your heartfelt message. It’s true that the garden can be both a source of joy and a significant responsibility, especially with the varying weather and life events. Finding the balance between enjoying the beauty and managing the tasks can be challenging. I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling better and that you’ve embraced some lovely garden decorations that don’t require too much upkeep. Your approach to finding joy in the garden, even amidst the busyness, is inspiring. Happy belated 60th birthday! 🎉 I’m sending best wishes for continued recovery and many more moments of garden enjoyment.

I’m trying to shake off the flu, so thankfully I was able to sit out in the garden to soak up the sunshine this morning, with a cup of tea. We’re expecting highs of 18-20°C this week.

Hello from New Zealand Catherine. I adore your videos both garden and other, especially with the two little fluffy rascals!
Yes we are into our winter down under but to me we are (so far) blessed with not too much extreme weather as yet where I live. We have days of rain intermittent with beautifully sunny days or sun and cloud so can’t moan too much. Inside we have our heating on low most of the time unless we are out, so not suffering the cold indoors.
You have a beautiful house and garden but the cottage gardens do require a lot of maintenance don’t they? You will never have nothing to do!😅 Someone in England should tell Monty Don about you and next time you have the opportunity - go up to him and make yourself known!! I have a large container garden. Huge heavy pots! I'd never seen a pot mover like you used and was so happy to see that back saver! I found it on Amazon & ordered it straight away. I live in the high desert of New Mexico (nearly 5k ft elevation) and the heat has been brutal this year & last. I hung sunshade cloth over my entire garden and installed rings that slide along poles mounted just under the sunshade frame. I can pull it back to allow full light in through the not so burning portions of the day and slide it closed during the worst of the heat. That said I'm always having to move pots. Back breaking! Now you've saved me!
The AMSR - at first I wasn't fond of it but as the video went along I found I was so relaxed.. in the zone so to speak. Now I'm a fan of it!

Finally got a break from the 100s heat, with full Deep South humidity here in lower Alabama. I resorted to shade cloth on my garden, and it has given my poor struggling veggies some relief. Tomatoes and peppers are happy, with lots of blossoms. Zinnias rule during the summers here!
I got some perennials on sale from the box store, potted them up, and added them to my shady spot to keep them alive until they get planted this fall. Even my eyelids were sweating today, but I pushed through! Nice cool shower and my favorite gardening UA-cam channels to finish my day!😊🎉

What a nice tidy up of your garden. Don’t give up. Summer will arrive. Here in Michigan, USA, we have had so many weather challenges. Torrential rains and flooding, horrible heat wave and smoke from Canada’s wildfires. I gave up on my pots. My husband told me that my yard looked like a pot hoarder lived here. I was upset. But he was right. No point in my keeping messy looking pots that keep struggling in our climate. After your last video, I was inspired to declutter my yard. Now, my husband compliments my flowers and doesn’t negatively comment about my pots. I gave most of them away to a community garden.

It's a cool day in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. I live across the bay from the big city. My apple tree has small apples now, and by September, they should be much larger. The wisteria has been retrained after the supports rotted, and it fell over last year. Now it is on 2 giant bamboo poles that have been pounded into the ground. It is growing like mad. The roses have booked, been deadheaded, and are blooming again. Dahlias are coming up. They live against the house in a warm dry spot and do well. Love your garden cleanup. So satisfying to do!

I live in Perth Western Australia, and last summer(your winter) my plants were cooked in the sizzling sun.
so I rally enjoy the other seasons to try and rectify things. I planted a small deciduous tree to protect some plants in summer. What you call wild flowers are our exotics. But Western Australia dry as it is has a spectacular display all over Australian wildflowers, that live in terrible le gravel and red soil.

    • @DaintyDiaries
      @DaintyDiaries  2 місяці тому

Perth sounds like it has a whole different climate than mine! Sizzling summer sun can be brutal on plants, no wonder you enjoy the other seasons to help them recover. Planting a small deciduous tree for shade is such a clever idea - your sun-sensitive plants will thank you next summer!
That's fascinating about your wildflowers! Here, "exotics" are plants that aren't native, so it makes sense why yours are so special. They've adapted to thrive in those tough conditions, with the gravel and red soil. Western Australia's wildflower displays sound incredible
