The Secret Service (Gerry Anderson, 1969) - unused main title concept

- In 1969, after cracking his head on a rafter while boarding his loft, Gerry Anderson was inspired to round off the era of his classic Supermarionation puppet productions with a brand-new series in which a vicar didn't do anything.
The Secret Service, as it became known, flopped with barely a whimper. Despite featuring comedy star Stanley Unwin, whose act consisted of speaking a side-splitting nonsense language called Unwinese (sample : "Folly folly thorkus, oh yes"), only a couple of ITV stations chose to show it, and even though it has since been released on both VHS and DVD, hardly anyone has bothered to watch far enough into the series to discover that there's actually a genuine episode where textbook 1960s jungle natives speak Unwinese.
And yet it could all have been so different…
Here, uncovered for the first time in over fifty years, is the alternative title sequence that ITC put together after sending Gerry out of the cutting room to buy some tartan paint, in order to try and make the series seem a bit more exciting and hence sell it to, well, anybody at all.
LMAO! MY two favourite things. Secret Service and Father Jack voiceover.
OK, so it's not Thunderbirds (or even Supercar) but Secret Service has a certain dotty British charm to it.
It is not as bad, as Wikipedia makes it out to be.
@@felixcuthbert2719 agreed i didn't disenjoy it. We got a number of the VHS tapes when they released in the 90's and we watched some episodes a number of times.
The High-Energy 'Bullitt' rhythm section set against the image of the sleepy English church had me spill my Cornflakes! Actually going to church must be wild!

"I want cake"
Brilliant.
How could anyone dislike this?!
They probably read the description.
Just emptied my bladder.
I'd rather watch this before watching Terrawhawks
Gritty and hard-hitting drama.
Ok this was just superb, I love it.
If the original titles were the best thing ever, that I might have been slightly obsessed with, this is even better.
Love the Father Jack samples.
now i can't live without this!
Well done much better sequence than the dreary original, but IMHO Gerry was being crafty putting in all the elements that would make the show fail and his boss Lew give him some dosh to make live-action. He went on to make UFO but the puppeteers didn't lose out as after this they went on to do their own thing with the very popular for toddlers ' The Adventures of Rupert Bear'
I remember the 'Kicking Sam Loover up the @rse' episode.
"How did that gobibold get on the television?"
You might mention it's a spoof. Younger viewers might think it's genuine.
I think the Father Jack lines kill any chance of that!
0:37 Where is that “I like cake” line from?
Father Ted.
Interesting concept with a bit of charm about it. It could have developed a following similar to "The Avengers".
“This is a job for B.I.S.H.O.P.... Brennan.”
“Oh, that gobshite.”
Where was this shown as I don't recall it
The priest seems to be short tempered.
Where does the music from this video come from?
Love this series...but also love your new take on the intro..🤣
I LIKE CAKE
DRINK!
Someone said this wasn't good. I say it is brilliant and stop bashing the Bishop
Terribold, terribold.
Far from it.
