    HI!
    I don't really see that the Optics joystick is controlling pan/tilt & zoom AT THE SAME TIME, it seems thats it is one thing AFTER another. Is it correct? Is ther any other PTZ controller on the market that can do that?
    Thanks

      Hello!
      The PTZOptics PT-Joy-G4 Joystick Controller, setting presets beyond 10 typically involves using a combination of function keys along with the preset buttons. Here’s a general approach based on standard practices for controllers like the PT-Joy-G4:
      Setting Presets 11-20 on PTZOptics PT-Joy-G4
      Position the Camera:
      Use the joystick to pan, tilt, and zoom the camera into the desired position for your preset.
      Setting the Preset:
      Presets 1-10 are typically set by pressing the Set button and then the corresponding number (1-10).
      For presets 11-20, the process might involve using a Shift or Function button in combination with the numbers 1-10. For instance, to set preset 11, you might need to press Set, hold Shift (or a similar function button), and then press 1.
      Saving the Preset:
      After positioning the camera and pressing the appropriate buttons, the preset should be saved in the corresponding slot.
      Accessing the User Manual
      1. Manual Download: The most accurate and detailed instructions can be found in the PT-Joy-G4's user manual. You can download this manual from the PTZOptics website. Go to their support or download section, find your product, and download the manual in PDF format.
      2. Search the Manual: Once you have the manual, you can use the PDF search function to find specific terms like "presets," "setting presets," or "advanced control."
      3. Table of Contents/Index: Alternatively, look in the table of contents or index for sections related to joystick controls or preset settings.
      Additional Support
      PTZOptics Support: If you’re having trouble finding the information or if the process isn’t working as expected, PTZOptics customer support can provide direct assistance.
      Online Tutorials: Sometimes video tutorials or online guides available on the PTZOptics website or UA-cam channel can offer helpful visual instructions.
      Conclusion
      To set presets 11-20 on the PTZOptics PT-Joy-G4, you will likely use a combination of the Set button with a Shift or Function button along with the numbers 1-10. For the exact procedure and detailed instructions, refer to the user manual for the PT-Joy-G4, which is available on the PTZOptics website. If you encounter difficulties, PTZOptics customer support is a valuable resource for assistance.

    I'm confused about what he just said answering a question about the focus lock feature at 19:10. You zoom all the way in on something, lock the focus on the subject and then zoom out. It is normally a matter of lens optics, not electronic features, that the focus stays sharp as you zoom out from wherever the focus was set. Autofocus is the only thing that would mess that up. This is how ALL manual lenses set the focus. Unless the focus lock somehow changes the focus as you zoom out... that's the way it should work. It only goes out of focus again if you zoom in on something closer or further than your last set focus point. Am i misinterpreting his answer that said " no.. because as you zoom back it is maintaining that focus state"? Because the way I heard the question, that is exactly what he asked if it would do.

    • @medivalone
      @medivalone 6 років тому

      The Focus lock will prevent the camera from auto focusing on another subject until you unlock the focus. So if someone walks in front of a camera, the camera won't try to focus on that person for the 1 second they are in the shot.

    • @Plisko1
      @Plisko1 6 років тому

      Thanks. I would expect that to be the case. I'm talking about when I zoom all the way in and focus on a subject, then lock focus and zoom out. The camera should maintain focus on that subject still...as long as they stay at the same distance. Closer objects certainly wouldn't be in focus.. but if I zoomed back into the same subject again they would be. Maybe I heard the answer wrong but it sounded like he said it wouldn't do that.

    • @tryatyourownrisk
      @tryatyourownrisk 6 років тому +1

      Hi Roy, what you are talking about is "parfocal" from the lens side or from the electronics side it would be CAFS (Constant Angle Focus System) and is not a feature that is currently built into the PTZOptics line of cameras. This feature allows a camera lens to zoom in or out while maintaining focus on a specific plane such as your describing.

    • @cybershadow81
      @cybershadow81 4 роки тому +1

      @@tryatyourownrisk You can see that PTZOptics lenses are not parfocal at 17:40 where Mathew adds the ceiling mounted ZCam and zooms in and out. The cam has a hard time getting the joystick in focus again. However, it should be possible to address that in firmware. That's the case with most camcorders and compact cameras with integrated lenses nowadays.

      I found one at Markertek. Melissa helped me get the correct joystick and Manuel. This is my fourth attempt at buying your product. Amazon is selling several knock off products, none have documentation or a website for help. The box has the exact design minus your logo, same key set up but functions are not the same. Even the same color. Their price is slightly less. I could only find your keyboard/joystick with cameras (I already have the cameras).

    Question for Lead Engineer, @Matthew Davis, why is there a Serial RS232 port on it - if it is not functional or disabled (per info from manual)?

    • @PTZOptics
      @PTZOptics  8 місяців тому

      Hello!
      The presence of a Serial RS232 port on the PTZOptics G3 joystick, despite it being non-functional or disabled according to the manual, might initially seem puzzling. However, there are a few reasons why such a port could be included on the device:
      1. Legacy Support and Compatibility:
      Even if currently disabled, the RS232 port could be intended for legacy support, ensuring compatibility with older systems or future updates that might enable its functionality.
      RS232 is a standard protocol for serial communication often used in AV equipment, and including the port could be part of ensuring broad compatibility.
      2. Hardware Standardization:
      Sometimes, manufacturers use standardized hardware components across different product models to maintain consistency and reduce production costs.
      The RS232 port might be a standard component of the joystick's design, even if it’s not enabled for functionality in the G3 model.
      3. Future Firmware Updates:
      The port could potentially be activated or utilized in future firmware updates. Including the port in the hardware design allows for such future enhancements without needing physical modifications to the device.
      4. Manufacturing and Design Choices:
      Including the port in the design might have been a decision based on a range of factors including manufacturing processes, design considerations, or future feature planning.
      The port could also serve other diagnostic or maintenance purposes not immediately apparent to the end user.
      5. User Documentation and Clarity:
      If the manual mentions that the port is non-functional or disabled, it’s likely an effort by PTZOptics to clarify its current status to users, perhaps in response to user inquiries or to prevent confusion.
      Conclusion:
      The inclusion of a non-functional or disabled RS232 port on the PTZOptics G3 joystick is likely due to reasons related to legacy support, hardware standardization, potential for future firmware updates, manufacturing choices, or providing clarity in user documentation. For the most accurate information and potential updates regarding the functionality of this port, it’s best to consult directly with PTZOptics support or keep an eye on official updates from the manufacturer.

      The PTZOptics G4 Joystick can work with a Reolink PTZ camera largely depends on the compatibility of control protocols between the two devices. Here are the key factors to consider:
      1. PTZ Control Protocols
      PTZOptics G4 Joystick: The PTZOptics G4 Joystick typically supports common PTZ control protocols such as VISCA, VISCA over IP, Pelco-D, and Pelco-P.
      Reolink PTZ Cameras: You will need to check if your specific Reolink PTZ camera model supports one of these protocols. Reolink cameras often use their own proprietary software for control, and not all models may support standard PTZ protocols.
      2. Network Configuration
      If both devices support a common protocol (like VISCA over IP), they must be correctly configured on the same network. Ensure the camera’s IP settings are properly set up to communicate with the joystick controller.
      3. Compatibility Check
      Consult Documentation: Refer to the documentation for both the PTZOptics G4 Joystick and your Reolink camera to verify compatible protocols.
      Manufacturer Support: Contact the support teams for PTZOptics and Reolink to inquire about compatibility.
      4. Testing
      If your Reolink camera supports a compatible protocol, you can try connecting it to the PTZOptics G4 Joystick and test basic functions like pan, tilt, zoom, and preset recall to see if they work correctly.
      5. Alternative Control Options
      Reolink Software: If the Reolink camera does not support standard protocols or is not compatible with the PTZOptics joystick, you may need to use Reolink’s own software or app for PTZ control.
      Third-Party Controllers:
      Alternatively, look for other PTZ controllers that are confirmed to be compatible with Reolink cameras.
      Conclusion
      The compatibility of the PTZOptics G4 Joystick with a Reolink PTZ camera is not guaranteed and depends on the specific model of the camera and its support for standard PTZ control protocols. It's important to do thorough compatibility checks and possibly conduct a practical test if you already have both devices. In cases where compatibility is an issue, using the camera manufacturer's recommended control method or seeking a universally compatible controller might be necessary.
