Everyone talks about how tango is the only one not eating a canary, but Joel is the only one out of the five who doesn't have a canary in the frame with him, and is the only one who looks distressed (like he realizes what hes done is wrong)
this exactly, joel seems visibly disturbed by the canary deaths throughout the video. id like to add that martyn also looks a bit uncomfortable in the shot where hes eating the canary, but even despite that hes still actively partaking.
Yes to both of you! Yes! Meanwhile Fwhip and Suasage are almost animalistic, digging into the flesh of the canaries, not just drinking the blood. Almost like they enjoy feeding off it without knowing what it is, since they arent looking at what they are eating. They aren't smiling, but its like when you're eating something you know your friend likes right infront of them to taunt them, just eating it without breaking eye contact, taking comically big bites, exaggerating the chewing and maintaining eye contact. But Fwhip and Sausage are enjoying it too much to realise what they are actually eating.
i literally felt myself tear up at that last shot of the canary flying up towards the moon. im shedding a tear right now just thinking about it. like man... jimmy doesnt need any crazy deep lore or convoluted plot, its just a guy genuinely trying to survive against all odds and slowly but surely getting there and it makes me want to fall to my knees every time

@@MsDogleaf Another thing I noticed now was that for Ranchers Jimmy, only one of his wings was trimmed, and very messily at that. It's as if he tried to trim the feather himself but couldn't really well.

The scene where Jimmy's past partners were drinking the canaries blood, and TANGO being the only one not appearing is such a genius move. The animatic is so symbolic and briliant portrait of his character, I love every frames and meaning behind it. ❤❤❤
Oh my goodness, Tango not being in that sequence because he never treated Jimmy with any vitriol or malice unlike the other 5! And that tango apparently only clipped one wing because he realized why Jimmy asked and Tango set him straight that he doesn't need to clip his wings at all! UGH TEAM RANCHER IS JUST SO GOOD!!!!
I love that Grian isn't even in this. Grian had no feelings besides the laughs from Limited Life. He even aided Jimmy in one death on pure accident. I can say that Grian definitely did not feel as burdened as the others. At least from his pov during Limited.

This is beautiful!!!! The symbilism is honestly heatbreaking, like all the canaries rushing into the sky was not only absolutely amazingly animated but the way it sort of depicts that in so many universes, so many times he's tried to fly, he will never survive, he's killed everytime, the little birds all struggling was awful (it was so good I loved it), plus the transition to the animation at 1:53 ???? Also (this was written before the description) the way Jimmy is asking his closest companion in each life to ground him? sever his flight feathers? and then later they are seen drinking the birds blood??? LOVE to know what that means. Also THE EVO REFERENCE WITH MARTYN!! NETTY!! THE PROPERTY POLICE! PARALLEL WITH BIG DOGS!! Anyway loved the art, loved the animation, loved the editing, love the story, good job!
Awwww thanks so much, I'm so glad you liked it that much!!!!!!!!!!! That one transition is lifted from the original music video, it was too cool for me to not recreate! But yessss I like to view the canary themeing as something like the whole "toy" bit from ESMP2, where it's not just him being cursed to die first but moreso him being treated like an inherently lower being by so many people, from their meager expectations of him to straight up going against his wishes, manipulating him, etc. Though a lot of those same people do love him but find themselves being part of the problem anyway, which I tried to portray in the images of his various partners eating the canaries and their reactions to it... ALSO YEAHHHHH EVO!!!!!!!! 💪💪💪
@@kamille286 sorry this is a late response, but Jimmy gave a Poppy to Scott at the start of 3L and went "I've confessed my love...for Poppies" and Scott went "no, for me" adn then the fandom started calling their ship "flower husbands", and the Poppy is often used to symbolize their relationship

@@TubbyTarchia also also how you examine all of the different relationships hes been through and theyre reflected not only in the growth of his wings but how theyre cared for, with scott obviously clipping them (something a lot of bird owners will do to their birds to prevent them from flying, being 'nuisances', or just for looks despite it being very harmful and painful for the birds) and tango helping to preen though being accidentally harmful not through negligence but through lack of knowledge/experience - though its shown that tango (and possibly the bad boys) was the last time his wings looked *neat* and cared for LIKE. ITS ALL SO GOOD. btw the frame of jimmy coming up through the water with his soaked wings is absolutely STUNNING and im rotating it in my brain forever
@@Nars_Media HEHEhehehe........ I'm SO happy you picked up on all that, means I've done at least a somewhat good job!!! I will say that Tango is actually also cutting them in this sequence but the scissors are very hard to see haha, hence one of Jimmy's wings being clipped (poorly, despite his best efforts, as opposed to Scott) but not the other when he started to feel sad about it. I like to think that Tango would have been asking him if this was alright to do because he's nervous, which made Jimmy also question whether this was okay (whether he wanted this). And then for some time his wings getting good and proper care again, indeed reflecting his alliances.. I'm also glad you like the soaked Jimmy lol

WHAT THE FUUUCCKKKK WHAAAATTTT THEEE FUUUCCKKKKK OH MY GOD????? I CANNOT STOP WATCHING THIS. First of all, the way he gains more and more birdlike features as the life series goes on? Spectacular design. And the way you mixed canary and dog features for his secret life design is just. amazing. I dont know if it's intended this way but I see the beginning as Jimmy didn't want his wings? So scott clipped them. But then Tango comes around in double life and doesn't clip them and Jimmy realises how he wishes Scott had been gentle like that too? The clips from different series makes me feel like everyone sees Jimmy as a fling or something temporary and they take him for granted maybe? And I absolutely love how you portrayed Jimmy and Martyns feelings from evo all the way to the present and how their relation to each other changed! Im not even sure I can put into words how much I love the part after that??! The running animation is SO smooth and that speedpaint transition had me floored for a second, I've never seen anything like that! I feel like it's portraying Jimmy trying to escape his fate but failing every time. And WOW. THE LAST SEGMENT WITH THE FLOCK OF BIRDS? WHERE DO I EVEN STARTTT. At first the lighting is a soft pink and then it becomes blood red?? Amazing. I am at a loss for words. It really hits hard with the way the music ramps up. I interpret the canaries as Jimmy's lives in different series? And oh my god I had to do a double take the first time I watched this to realise that his friends and teammates are eating the canaries. I see it as them benefiting from or in some cases even finding joy in his deaths? Scott who looks unbothered, Martyn who feels guilty, Joel who is horrified then Sausage who is actively enjoying it and Fwhip who is angry?!.. It all symbolises their feelings about Jimmy's deaths in their respective series so well. I don't think there are words strong enough to describe my feelings about this. Oh my god. Thank you so much for making this, it's like christmas come early for a Jimmy enthusiast like myself. Sorry for rambling lmao I just really want to properly appreciate the time and effort you put into this. I will be rewatching this until the end of time.

SO MUCH TALLENT, THIS IS AWSOME!!!! I think that Tango not drinking the bird's blood at the end was a great touch. Out of all of Jim's... Partners? I'm not sure what to call them (Scott, Martyn, Sausage, Fwhip, and Tango) Tango made fun on him the least, and even defended him against it some. I am fully aware that it is all in good fun, and that Jim even encourages it. But when put to the fans, they will make it the most angsty and sad thing ever. So having him not hurt the bird in the end was very good. :D
Oh yeah this is strictly about characters, I'm always a little bit scared to talk about it outside of my specific tumblr circle because a very large amount of people aren't fond of it even if I put a disclaimer on everything I say or draw etc. Indeed though I am here to draw out and animate all of Jimmy's story in the most angsty miserable way possible because that's how it's made me feel!! ANYWAY I'm really glad you liked it!! And yes, couldn't put Tango in there. If he were part of those shots, he'd just be holding the canary confused
@@potatomuffin1962 i think scott's is interesting coz marytn's comments to jimmy about scott using him is.... it LOOKS plausible. and scott did comment that jimmy would be out early, so he made plans to team up with cleo after jimmy's out... like.. .that's less "protect him" and more "yeah this is all for now... for now..." grian protected scar and actually kept him alive to the end lol so that also makes Scott's "protect him" feel.... less succesful. tho it is jimmy and scar's since won without grian babysitting him the whole time so, granted, protecting jimmy's far more difficult than protecting scar lol but it does leave a lot to be open to interpretation......... and now we have the bamboozlers or whatever the group will end up being named >.>
@@Nezumi-- Sorry I'm late to this but yeah! The notion that Jimmy needs to be protected in general is an inherent part of his mistreatment imo, because he's treated like the runt of the cast, and Scott instilled that mindset in him, eg when Jimmy accidentally made tnt detonate and kill him along with 2 other people, and felt bad about it, Scott agreed that it was his fault and didn't do anything to reassure him. Or how he rebuilt Jimmy's hobbit hole, or him leaving a cake for Jimmy and then making fun of him when he had become too scared of traps to interact with it and went to Scott for help, and that's outside of just his general belief of Jimmy being incompetent and not being able to make decisions without him. It's nothing big and blatant, especially if you don't watch the series with that lens, but the way he treated Jimmy only enforced the negative beliefs about him, for Jimmy himself too. He very frequently puts himself down and imo has become dependant on allyships. He likes to have allies because he doesn't feel safe alone, he intimately refers to any base he's part of as a home and when he is alone, eg after being exiled in LL, he finds his way right back because he doesn't know what to do in solitude. And also the question of whether Scott actually intended to protect him in the first place or not. Having Jimmy dead certainly wasn't favorable for him, so of course he didn't want him dead, but then in DL you get him saying "(in order to get something out of Jimmy) you just gotta whittle him down to nothing" and admitting to himself doing this in 3L. Makes you think

This is my far one of the best animations I have seen for the life series. The amount of symbolism you manage to fit with without it being overbearing is incredible. I love that you don't shy away from more grosseteste scenes to convey what you want, the way you want it. I'm sure this will become one of the better know life series animations out there, up with Bang! and W.I.T.C.H. Good luck to you in your making of these, I'm excited to share and re-watch what you make over and over and over :)
YESSSS I'm so glad you like and approve of that!! I really hate to hold myself back in my art even if I get scared of potential negative responses since a looot of people are very vocally not fond of block storytelling being taken this seriously but raghhhhh. WAOOUOUGHHH THIS IS SO COOL,,, love how you used the canary/wings in your symbolism here, Scott clipping his wings vs tango taking the time to preen them I wish I watched more of other series’s so I can talk more abt the final sequence w/ them taking a bite from the bird. BUT- the difference between Scott’s cold look and Joel’s look of horror is so,, one takes with an expectation and the other takes accidentally, with an unintended harm. It isn’t lost on me that Joel’s the only one not actively eating. ALSO TANGO NOT BEING IN THAT SEQUENCE I SEE YOU. I SEE YOU THERE,, Also the canary animation overall is incredibly clean and incredibly well done (ESPECIALLY THEM FLYING AT THE END?? HOLY SHIT???) For fWhip, in X Life Jimmy didn't follow through on a promise to him to hang out, and blocked him off at one point, after which I've viewed their relationship as rather tulmateous, esp in ESMP2 where he betrays Jimmy's trust. And Martyn is too much of a hanful for me to get to here without writing 5 paragraphs lol)
joel will always be one of my FAVORITES of jimmy’s teammates, because tries SO HARD to keep him safe een though he failed completely. and i think your video convey’s that kind of helplessness really well! he looks so horrified at the canaries, and you can tell that he hates how he’s unwillingly helping the curse continue. i remember in one of joel’s limlife videos too, right after jimmy died, he said that he was gonna sacrifice himself for jimmy so he didn’t get out first 😭 BUT HE WAS TOO LATE CAUSE THE CURSE GOT HIS ASS 😭😭😭 like he dosen’t mean to contribute to the canary’s death, but his bad boy babe still dies anyway aughhhhhh i have SO many thoughts on them- anyway, your video is gorgeous!! the expressions are really welldone, and overall I like cannot stop rewatching!!

This is wonderfully animated! :D The spins of the canaries are so smooth! The wing animations look great! The expressions for all of the characters are drawn very well! The storytelling was very well done! I've been rewatching this animatic way too many times - it's such a treat for the eyes! I also love the song choice; it fits the theme perfectly! I'm just going to go on a whole analysis - don't mind me! Scott clipping his wings, though originally out of a want to help Jimmy feel better about them suddenly appearing, is ultimately what kills their relationship because he's willing to alter and harm Jimmy - cutting the poppy flower off of the stem. Contrasted with Jimmy asking Tango to clip his wings since he's used to asking others to clip them, but as Tango starts, he stops because he's harming him and doesn't want to harm Jimmy - and Jimmy realizing that's what he always wanted. God Joel being indifferent and toying with Toy Jimmy to later show Joel horrified at seeing Jimmy fall, with Jimmy's fall being represented as a canary with a clipped wing. Maybe he would've been able to save himself if his wing wasn't clipped. (And Grian is there too Lol Though we don't see his reaction to Jimmy falling) Sausage teasing him and making him wear the maid outfit and fWhip antagonizing Sheriff Jimmy correlates well with them eating the canaries - Sausage eating the canary without a care in the world, possibly even enjoying it, while fWhip is eating the canary with a look of frustration and even anger. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I noticed that both of the canaries seem to have clipped feathers while the birds you see Scott and Martyn eat don't seem to have any. It feels like fWhip and Sausage were the reasons why the canaries wings were clipped and why they were able to easily eat them. With there being shots of the canaries dying before showing them eating the birds, Scott and Martyn seem to be the cause of those deaths and were able to use it for their own advantage. Scott seems to be eating the canary with a look of innocence - as if looking away from the sight makes him guiltless of the death he caused, while Martyn is eating the canary with horror and guilt at what he's doing and what he's done. While Scott continues to eat, his hand covering how much of the canary he's eating, Martyn is wiping the blood off of his face - as if wanting to stop what he's actively doing. Joel is the only one with the canary not seen being held in his hand, with the canary falling out of the sky beforehand. This seems to indicate that, even though he wasn't actively the direct cause of Jimmy's death, maybe indirectly being the cause, he still reaped from it. Joel looking at what he's done with horror and disgust, though seeming to have actively stopped his eating, while showing the amount he's eaten even if it isn't as much as others have eaten - his mouth shown for all to see what he's done. The flashes of scenes with everyone either giving love, teasing, animosity, indifference, or horror all show people who, somehow and in someway, used, took from, or harmed Jimmy. The only one not shown in those flashes is Tango and Martyn. Tango isn't shown because he never wanted to harm Jimmy or wanted anything from him - he only wanted to be his partner and companion. For Martyn, it's because it shows a whole segment of his past with Jimmy with the Property Police on the Evo server. How Netty was gone, Martyn left Jimmy alone to then find companionship with Scott, symbolized as a unicorn with his back turned towards Jimmy, and then them teaming up again as the Big Dogs in Secret Life. It seemed to imply that the Evo server happened when they were younger and that Jimmy is still affected by what occurred then and Martyn feels guilt for what happened in the past, especially after losing Jimmy in Secret Life. During the run sequence, it starts off in Double Life, with the Ranchers house burning and then Jimmy when he fell from Grian and Scar's tower, causing him and Tango to be on their red life with the string turning red when he hits the ground. It then goes to Limited Life as it shows Bread Bridge with the frog tower in the back and then Jimmy falling from Skynet for his final death. It then goes to Secret Life to the Big Dogs house in the background, with Jimmy falling once again, but this time into water - he doesn't die. Instead, he rises from the water, showing his wings having no more clipped feathers in his wings. And it's at this moment that him running starts to reach out, trying to fly, and then blocked out by flying canaries, symbolizing that he was finally able to fly, though he may not escape some of the hardships that will come along with him trying to fly away, trying to escape. Tango sees a canary fly with awe, visually seeing the canary in the scene with him - showing his trust in the canary; Martyn and Scott see the canary above them, off screen, with Martyn looking apprehensive while Scott looks as if the bird has caught his attention, but feels indifference towards it - almost calculating in a way as the shadow of the canary passes over his face - showing worry and scheming towards the canary; Joel seems to show indifference until he sees the canary fly, off screen and without a shadow, and suddenly he looks afraid as the camera changes to see a canary flying to then a canary having fallen onto the ground - possibly meaning he either was afraid that the canary would fall from the sky, that he knew the canary was going to fall, or he actively saw the canary falling - showing that he didn't trust the canary to be able to succeed in flying and would fail. The colors of the background while the canaries are spinning is interesting. It first starts out with them spinning in a soft greenish kind of background, possibly marking the soft start to the life series, and how things start off slow and fairly easy going. It also shows Jimmy from behind and how his wings grow in size, but they're still clipped, though the first image is of both of his wings being clipped while the second one shows only one wing clipped. It's like it's the start to him realizing the circumstances of his wings and the canary curse. The next time they're spinning, it's a harsh yellow background. It could mark how in the life series, once everyone starts going yellow is when everything starts to unravel. It also shows Jimmy from the front twice to then seeing his back with his wings having grown more but still with a few clipped wings. As if he's finally facing what has been happening and the curse, and coming to terms with the damage that's been done. Then it shows a canary that says "The stars that dance for you". Though this canary isn't spinning, the background is a soft peachy-red. This could still tie into the color symbolism for the life series. Right after that canary, it shows the sequence with Jimmy running and then the flock of canaries flying into the sunset with the clouds being a soft, yet darker peachy-red than what was shown in the background of the canary. And then it quickly shifts to the dark reds and oranges of the canaries dying. This whole segment seems to show the descent into the first red appearing to the absolute madness and slaughter that comes with everyone being on their red lives in the life series. This also seems to show Jimmy trying to escape his fate, his curse, by running and then trying to fly away. It seems like many of the birds in the flock have some clipped wings, yet they still try to fly away. It ends with one canary flying out of a mass of death and slaughtered birds and able to escape from the death occurring at sunset and flying to freedom in the sky. Especially with his relationship with Martyn in that season, and Grian in both that season and in Limited Life :D Overall, amazing animatic! You did a superb job animating all of this! WHOA!!!! FIRST OF ALL no need to ever apologize for yapping an artist's ear off about their work, that is like, one of the highest honors to receive, lol, so thank you so much for not only watching, multiple times at that, but also commenting, let alone such a detailed analysis. That means the absolute world to me and I had such a good time reading your interpretation. SECONDLY, speaking of interpretation, I don't like to sway it because that's the beauty of art and I'd like the art to speak for itself (unless people are specifically curious on my opinions that I tried to convey etc). That said I will admit that there were a few things that I didn't actually implement consciously or think of that you pointed out as having meant something for you. For example, Joel's reaction to whatever canary he's looking at right before the audience sees them dying - you saying that it couls've meant that Joel did just react early because he already expected the canary to fail. That's so fun that you inferred something like that from that, and I could absolutely see it too! It makes sense for his character, or at least how I see him and tend to portray him, so that was awesome haha I'm so happy you picked up and analysed so many of the other elements too, like the whole "eating the canary" sequence, and you're one of the few to point out that Jimmy was trying to fly at the running segment. Ahhh you're so awesome for this comment, thank you again so so much, it means the world to me! ❤❤❤
ALSO I just didn't have enough room within the song to also implement anything notable from LL. I like to think that he was trying to clip his wings on his own but doing a horrible job and didnt really ask anyone until DL, and the one standout Jimmy moment in LL is to do with Martyn, but I was already doing a longer segment for him and I figured that Evo transiitoning to SL would work better and still get across what LL would have tried to as well. Grian, I frankly don't view as that integral to Jimmy's character which is why I don't often include him in my talk or art (etc) of Jimmy. I don't necessarily headcanon them as brothers, though I have nothing against it, but their banter is very brotherly to me and there havent been any significant moments between them for me to want to analyse their relationship on the same level as Jimmy's various partners and such. He doesn't really help, he definitely hs contributed to the, as I like to call it, "Jimmy ecosystem", where he's continously knocked down a dozen pegs, but at the same time I don't view it as genuine malice. Joel is very similar in thaat regard but he and Jimmy have had a lot of noteworthy interactions throughout the years and his treatment of Jimmy has imo changed, which makes his treatment of Jimmy really interesting for me to dwell into. Like the Bad Boys was a good time, they meshed together well and they all looked out for one another. But Joel was the one who said he'd sacrifice himself for Jimmy and failed to, and it didn't take long for him to go manic on his red life after Jimmy died. He's continously made comments about Jimmy that convey some form of care, like how he told people off in SL for building Jimmy a premature grave, or how he said he'd be taking revenge for Jimmy in LL after he died etc... which is something that has always been the case somewhat but there were many instances of him speaking exceptionally poorly of Jimmy like in X Life and ESMP2. Sorry for my own ramble in response to yours lol but I hope it makes sense somewhat! Also sorry for typos, typing on mobile sucks lol
This animation is heavenly! Not only is the art style something i would sell my soul for but the song choice is also a great one. Jimmy might just be my favourite mcyt and I'm absolutely in love with the fandoms depiction of the canary curse. Jimmy transforming into a whole flock(opera) of canaries, The others EATING said canaries and finally only one canary flies away unharmed- WHO? WHICH JIMMY IS THAT? RAHHHHH!!!! This animatic got me flabbergasted. edit: ALSO THE TRANSITIONS ARE COOL! The 1st one which seems to be only pngs, the second one irl section with canary Jim all alone and when the light shines unicorn Scott apearing, another one the speedpaint which caught the attention of many of the other comenters and finally the canary storm begining to flood the screen. All of these are done so well and thats not even all the frames that piqued my interest. Chef's kiss this animatic AND LONG LIVE JIMMY ANGST >:3

This might legitimately be the best animatic I've ever watched, the art, the animation, the storytelling, the references, everything is just so amazing. The switch in media, that occurs in time with the song is just amazing and how you managed to incorperate so many different references from so many different series in such a natural way to support the storytelling and structure of the animatic is really impressive! The pacing is awesome, and keeps you hooked from start to finish this video does not feel like it is 3,5 minutes long when you watch it. This is just simply immaculate! JIMMY NEEDS TO SEE THIS

Semi chronological list of things I enjoyed about this animatic: - the canary wings being clipped in time with the music is really good - both the animation for Jimmys wings and him turning around are super good - I really like all the colours used in this, they look really good. Notably I really like Jimmys colour palette - the animation of the rotating Canary is super cool and also such a silly guy :3 always impressed by people who can draw birds just in general + the colours there are also really pretty - the lightinggggg specifically when Jimmy is running through the different settings - i like how the Jimmy in the background at 2:00 is monochrome - the flock of canaries and the sequence of them dying/beating eaten is SO COOL omg I’m obsessed - the still of a canary in front of the moon is a wonderful visual to end on - The use of different styles and forms. The still frames intercepted by bits of full animation. The flower png cut by scissors,,, The more sketchy/ wobbly lineart at 0:55. The glitch on Netty at 1:12z the real life image at 1:17. the bird image on art program canvas at 1:53. AND the animation of the drawing of Jimmy running coming to life at 1:55 it’s so so cool and fun to watch. All these elements feel like they shouldn’t come together but they DO ! And it’s SO GOOD! - there’s so much symbolism I simply do not have the mental capacity to process at 1 am but that’s also super cool! - the level of detail makes this so rewatchable. I feel like every time I watch I notice new things. I’ve watched it 5 times. I’ll watch it again. I can’t imagine the level of not only work but creativity put into this video. I know some elements were taken from the songs mv but there’s also so so so much more here. Essentially I like the video

I don't generally cry at fandom animations but this broke me. The symbolism with the clipped wings and the blood drinking really resonated with me. Thank you for making something so beautiful yet heart wrenching.
I think the story of Solidarity is legitimately the most heavy and interesting one in the life series. From him dying first almost every time to the fact we literally watch him grow up into a fuller adult. In 3rd life he was still in his old home with a young clean face. Now he has his own home, his partner, and his beard. And the canary in the coal mine works great not only because he dies first. But because he's a harbinger. The canary dies first to tell the people to get out before they die too. And jimmy dying usually seems to spark chaos.
This animatic has been in my recommended for some time now. I dont really understand the story/the context but the animation is beautiful!! It seems to have a lot of thought-out symbolism and I really love the expressions! :D
This is the type of animatic that you need to watch multiple times because of how good it is! So. I’ve barely watched any of jimmy’s content. But this animatic- it’s so visceral, the way you weave themes together, the use of lighting to express mood, the symbols, the mixed animation styles (I did not expect to jump into ms paint and/or real life grass (so scary)) and basically what I mean is I usually don’t comment on animatics for fear of being perceived but my god this is beautiful and makes me want to binge jimmy’s content, despite it literally being exam week. So. Yeah.

The symbolism of the canaries and the blood drinking, the callbacks to all the smps and life series, I genuinely teared up at this animation which I don’t think I’ve ever done before. I’m an animator myself, not a great one by any means, but I hope someday I’ll be able to evoke just as much emotion as you managed to evoke in me and so many other commenters here.

It was only till the second time I watched it I realized Jimmy's feather was being cut(?) so he can't fly. The more times I watch this the more I become impressed of the amount of details, such an amazing animatic!

The scene that starts at 1:53 is beautiful. I felt so much just seeing that sequence start, the time-lapse into rendered animation made my heart lurch. Seeing what happened next made it even better, I love the black and white transition to when jimmy falls. It makes me realize just how tragic jimmy is as a character :,)

Everyone talks about how tango is the only one not eating a canary, but Joel is the only one out of the five who doesn't have a canary in the frame with him, and is the only one who looks distressed (like he realizes what hes done is wrong)
this exactly, joel seems visibly disturbed by the canary deaths throughout the video. id like to add that martyn also looks a bit uncomfortable in the shot where hes eating the canary, but even despite that hes still actively partaking.

Meanwhile Fwhip and Suasage are almost animalistic, digging into the flesh of the canaries, not just drinking the blood. Almost like they enjoy feeding off it without knowing what it is, since they arent looking at what they are eating. They aren't smiling, but its like when you're eating something you know your friend likes right infront of them to taunt them, just eating it without breaking eye contact, taking comically big bites, exaggerating the chewing and maintaining eye contact. But Fwhip and Sausage are enjoying it too much to realise what they are actually eating.

I love that Grian isn't even in this. Grian had no feelings besides the laughs from Limited Life. He even aided Jimmy in one death on pure accident. I can say that Grian definitely did not feel as burdened as the others. At least from his pov during Limited.

The symbilism is honestly heatbreaking, like all the canaries rushing into the sky was not only absolutely amazingly animated but the way it sort of depicts that in so many universes, so many times he's tried to fly, he will never survive, he's killed everytime, the little birds all struggling was awful (it was so good I loved it), plus the transition to the animation at 1:53 ???? Also (this was written before the description) the way Jimmy is asking his closest companion in each life to ground him? sever his flight feathers? and then later they are seen drinking the birds blood??? LOVE to know what that means. Also THE EVO REFERENCE WITH MARTYN!! NETTY!! THE PROPERTY POLICE! PARALLEL WITH BIG DOGS!!

@@kamille286 sorry this is a late response, but Jimmy gave a Poppy to Scott at the start of 3L and went "I've confessed my love...for Poppies" and Scott went "no, for me" adn then the fandom started calling their ship "flower husbands", and the Poppy is often used to symbolize their relationship

The clips from different series makes me feel like everyone sees Jimmy as a fling or something temporary and they take him for granted maybe? And I absolutely love how you portrayed Jimmy and Martyns feelings from evo all the way to the present and how their relation to each other changed!
Im not even sure I can put into words how much I love the part after that??! The running animation is SO smooth and that speedpaint transition had me floored for a second, I've never seen anything like that! I feel like it's portraying Jimmy trying to escape his fate but failing every time.
And WOW. THE LAST SEGMENT WITH THE FLOCK OF BIRDS? WHERE DO I EVEN STARTTT. At first the lighting is a soft pink and then it becomes blood red?? Amazing. I am at a loss for words. It really hits hard with the way the music ramps up. I interpret the canaries as Jimmy's lives in different series? And oh my god I had to do a double take the first time I watched this to realise that his friends and teammates are eating the canaries. I see it as them benefiting from or in some cases even finding joy in his deaths? Scott who looks unbothered, Martyn who feels guilty, Joel who is horrified then Sausage who is actively enjoying it and Fwhip who is angry?!.. It all symbolises their feelings about Jimmy's deaths in their respective series so well. I don't think there are words strong enough to describe my feelings about this. Oh my god.

Scott seems to be the one who starts the wing trimming tradition(?). Every time after him Jimmy asks his partners to clip his wings so he can't fly.
SO MUCH TALLENT, THIS IS AWSOME!!!! I think that Tango not drinking the bird's blood at the end was a great touch. Out of all of Jim's... Partners? I'm not sure what to call them (Scott, Martyn, Sausage, Fwhip, and Tango) Tango made fun on him the least, and even defended him against it some. I am fully aware that it is all in good fun, and that Jim even encourages it. But when put to the fans, they will make it the most angsty and sad thing ever. So having him not hurt the bird in the end was very good. :D
Oh yeah this is strictly about characters, I'm always a little bit scared to talk about it outside of my specific tumblr circle because a very large amount of people aren't fond of it even if I put a disclaimer on everything I say or draw etc. Indeed though I am here to draw out and animate all of Jimmy's story in the most angsty miserable way possible because that's how it's made me feel!! ANYWAY I'm really glad you liked it!! And yes, couldn't put Tango in there. If he were part of those shots, he'd just be holding the canary confused

grian protected scar and actually kept him alive to the end lol so that also makes Scott's "protect him" feel.... less succesful. tho it is jimmy and scar's since won without grian babysitting him the whole time so, granted, protecting jimmy's far more difficult than protecting scar lol
but it does leave a lot to be open to interpretation.........

@@Nezumi-- Sorry I'm late to this but yeah! The notion that Jimmy needs to be protected in general is an inherent part of his mistreatment imo, because he's treated like the runt of the cast, and Scott instilled that mindset in him, eg when Jimmy accidentally made tnt detonate and kill him along with 2 other people, and felt bad about it, Scott agreed that it was his fault and didn't do anything to reassure him. Or how he rebuilt Jimmy's hobbit hole, or him leaving a cake for Jimmy and then making fun of him when he had become too scared of traps to interact with it and went to Scott for help, and that's outside of just his general belief of Jimmy being incompetent and not being able to make decisions without him. It's nothing big and blatant, especially if you don't watch the series with that lens, but the way he treated Jimmy only enforced the negative beliefs about him, for Jimmy himself too. He very frequently puts himself down and imo has become dependant on allyships. He likes to have allies because he doesn't feel safe alone, he intimately refers to any base he's part of as a home and when he is alone, eg after being exiled in LL, he finds his way right back because he doesn't know what to do in solitude. And also the question of whether Scott actually intended to protect him in the first place or not. Having Jimmy dead certainly wasn't favorable for him, so of course he didn't want him dead, but then in DL you get him saying "(in order to get something out of Jimmy) you just gotta whittle him down to nothing" and admitting to himself doing this in 3L. Makes you think

This is my far one of the best animations I have seen for the life series. The amount of symbolism you manage to fit with without it being overbearing is incredible. I love that you don't shy away from more grosseteste scenes to convey what you want, the way you want it. I'm sure this will become one of the better know life series animations out there, up with Bang! and W.I.T.C.H. I wish I watched more of other series’s so I can talk more abt the final sequence w/ them taking a bite from the bird. BUT- the difference between Scott’s cold look and Joel’s look of horror is so,, one takes with an expectation and the other takes accidentally, with an unintended harm. This is wonderfully animated! :D The spins of the canaries are so smooth! The wing animations look great! The expressions for all of the characters are drawn very well! The storytelling was very well done! I've been rewatching this animatic way too many times - it's such a treat for the eyes! I also love the song choice; it fits the theme perfectly!
I'm just going to go on a whole analysis - don't mind me!
Scott clipping his wings, though originally out of a want to help Jimmy feel better about them suddenly appearing, is ultimately what kills their relationship because he's willing to alter and harm Jimmy - cutting the poppy flower off of the stem. Contrasted with Jimmy asking Tango to clip his wings since he's used to asking others to clip them, but as Tango starts, he stops because he's harming him and doesn't want to harm Jimmy - and Jimmy realizing that's what he always wanted.
God Joel being indifferent and toying with Toy Jimmy to later show Joel horrified at seeing Jimmy fall, with Jimmy's fall being represented as a canary with a clipped wing. Maybe he would've been able to save himself if his wing wasn't clipped. (And Grian is there too Lol Though we don't see his reaction to Jimmy falling)
Sausage teasing him and making him wear the maid outfit and fWhip antagonizing Sheriff Jimmy correlates well with them eating the canaries - Sausage eating the canary without a care in the world, possibly even enjoying it, while fWhip is eating the canary with a look of frustration and even anger. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I noticed that both of the canaries seem to have clipped feathers while the birds you see Scott and Martyn eat don't seem to have any. It feels like fWhip and Sausage were the reasons why the canaries wings were clipped and why they were able to easily eat them. With there being shots of the canaries dying before showing them eating the birds, Scott and Martyn seem to be the cause of those deaths and were able to use it for their own advantage. Scott seems to be eating the canary with a look of innocence - as if looking away from the sight makes him guiltless of the death he caused, while Martyn is eating the canary with horror and guilt at what he's doing and what he's done. While Scott continues to eat, his hand covering how much of the canary he's eating, Martyn is wiping the blood off of his face - as if wanting to stop what he's actively doing.
Joel is the only one with the canary not seen being held in his hand, with the canary falling out of the sky beforehand. This seems to indicate that, even though he wasn't actively the direct cause of Jimmy's death, maybe indirectly being the cause, he still reaped from it. Joel looking at what he's done with horror and disgust, though seeming to have actively stopped his eating, while showing the amount he's eaten even if it isn't as much as others have eaten - his mouth shown for all to see what he's done.
The flashes of scenes with everyone either giving love, teasing, animosity, indifference, or horror all show people who, somehow and in someway, used, took from, or harmed Jimmy. The only one not shown in those flashes is Tango and Martyn. Tango isn't shown because he never wanted to harm Jimmy or wanted anything from him - he only wanted to be his partner and companion. For Martyn, it's because it shows a whole segment of his past with Jimmy with the Property Police on the Evo server. How Netty was gone, Martyn left Jimmy alone to then find companionship with Scott, symbolized as a unicorn with his back turned towards Jimmy, and then them teaming up again as the Big Dogs in Secret Life. It seemed to imply that the Evo server happened when they were younger and that Jimmy is still affected by what occurred then and Martyn feels guilt for what happened in the past, especially after losing Jimmy in Secret Life.
During the run sequence, it starts off in Double Life, with the Ranchers house burning and then Jimmy when he fell from Grian and Scar's tower, causing him and Tango to be on their red life with the string turning red when he hits the ground. It then goes to Limited Life as it shows Bread Bridge with the frog tower in the back and then Jimmy falling from Skynet for his final death. It then goes to Secret Life to the Big Dogs house in the background, with Jimmy falling once again, but this time into water - he doesn't die. Instead, he rises from the water, showing his wings having no more clipped feathers in his wings. And it's at this moment that him running starts to reach out, trying to fly, and then blocked out by flying canaries, symbolizing that he was finally able to fly, though he may not escape some of the hardships that will come along with him trying to fly away, trying to escape.
Tango sees a canary fly with awe, visually seeing the canary in the scene with him - showing his trust in the canary; Martyn and Scott see the canary above them, off screen, with Martyn looking apprehensive while Scott looks as if the bird has caught his attention, but feels indifference towards it - almost calculating in a way as the shadow of the canary passes over his face - showing worry and scheming towards the canary; Joel seems to show indifference until he sees the canary fly, off screen and without a shadow, and suddenly he looks afraid as the camera changes to see a canary flying to then a canary having fallen onto the ground - possibly meaning he either was afraid that the canary would fall from the sky, that he knew the canary was going to fall, or he actively saw the canary falling - showing that he didn't trust the canary to be able to succeed in flying and would fail.
The colors of the background while the canaries are spinning is interesting. It first starts out with them spinning in a soft greenish kind of background, possibly marking the soft start to the life series, and how things start off slow and fairly easy going. It also shows Jimmy from behind and how his wings grow in size, but they're still clipped, though the first image is of both of his wings being clipped while the second one shows only one wing clipped. It's like it's the start to him realizing the circumstances of his wings and the canary curse.
The next time they're spinning, it's a harsh yellow background. It could mark how in the life series, once everyone starts going yellow is when everything starts to unravel. It also shows Jimmy from the front twice to then seeing his back with his wings having grown more but still with a few clipped wings. As if he's finally facing what has been happening and the curse, and coming to terms with the damage that's been done.
Then it shows a canary that says "The stars that dance for you". Though this canary isn't spinning, the background is a soft peachy-red. This could still tie into the color symbolism for the life series. Right after that canary, it shows the sequence with Jimmy running and then the flock of canaries flying into the sunset with the clouds being a soft, yet darker peachy-red than what was shown in the background of the canary. And then it quickly shifts to the dark reds and oranges of the canaries dying. This whole segment seems to show the descent into the first red appearing to the absolute madness and slaughter that comes with everyone being on their red lives in the life series. This also seems to show Jimmy trying to escape his fate, his curse, by running and then trying to fly away. It seems like many of the birds in the flock have some clipped wings, yet they still try to fly away. It ends with one canary flying out of a mass of death and slaughtered birds and able to escape from the death occurring at sunset and flying to freedom in the sky.
No matter how many tries it takes, he will find freedom and he will escape.
I'm so sorry for writing a whole essay, but this was magnificent! Ended up rewatching even more to write my comment accurately to what was going on in the animatic and to get my thoughts out clearly :P
I am a little surprised to see nothing from Last Life - I'd love to see your thoughts on his character in that season with everyone in the Southlands! Especially with his relationship with Martyn in that season, and Grian in both that season and in Limited Life :D

WHOA!!!! FIRST OF ALL no need to ever apologize for yapping an artist's ear off about their work, that is like, one of the highest honors to receive, lol, so thank you so much for not only watching, multiple times at that, but also commenting, let alone such a detailed analysis. That means the absolute world to me and I had such a good time reading your interpretation. SECONDLY, speaking of interpretation, I don't like to sway it because that's the beauty of art and I'd like the art to speak for itself (unless people are specifically curious on my opinions that I tried to convey etc). That said I will admit that there were a few things that I didn't actually implement consciously or think of that you pointed out as having meant something for you. For example, Joel's reaction to whatever canary he's looking at right before the audience sees them dying - you saying that it couls've meant that Joel did just react early because he already expected the canary to fail. That's so fun that you inferred something like that from that, and I could absolutely see it too! It makes sense for his character, or at least how I see him and tend to portray him, so that was awesome haha
I'm so happy you picked up and analysed so many of the other elements too, like the whole "eating the canary" sequence, and you're one of the few to point out that Jimmy was trying to fly at the running segment. ALSO I just didn't have enough room within the song to also implement anything notable from LL. I like to think that he was trying to clip his wings on his own but doing a horrible job and didnt really ask anyone until DL, and the one standout Jimmy moment in LL is to do with Martyn, but I was already doing a longer segment for him and I figured that Evo transiitoning to SL would work better and still get across what LL would have tried to as well. Grian, I frankly don't view as that integral to Jimmy's character which is why I don't often include him in my talk or art (etc) of Jimmy. I don't necessarily headcanon them as brothers, though I have nothing against it, but their banter is very brotherly to me and there havent been any significant moments between them for me to want to analyse their relationship on the same level as Jimmy's various partners and such. He doesn't really help, he definitely hs contributed to the, as I like to call it, "Jimmy ecosystem", where he's continously knocked down a dozen pegs, but at the same time I don't view it as genuine malice. Joel is very similar in thaat regard but he and Jimmy have had a lot of noteworthy interactions throughout the years and his treatment of Jimmy has imo changed, which makes his treatment of Jimmy really interesting for me to dwell into. Like the Bad Boys was a good time, they meshed together well and they all looked out for one another. But Joel was the one who said he'd sacrifice himself for Jimmy and failed to, and it didn't take long for him to go manic on his red life after Jimmy died. He's continously made comments about Jimmy that convey some form of care, like how he told people off in SL for building Jimmy a premature grave, or how he said he'd be taking revenge for Jimmy in LL after he died etc... which is something that has always been the case somewhat but there were many instances of him speaking exceptionally poorly of Jimmy like in X Life and ESMP2. Sorry for my own ramble in response to yours lol but I hope it makes sense somewhat! Also sorry for typos, typing on mobile sucks lol
This animation is heavenly! Not only is the art style something i would sell my soul for but the song choice is also a great one. Jimmy might just be my favourite mcyt and I'm absolutely in love with the fandoms depiction of the canary curse. Jimmy transforming into a whole flock(opera) of canaries, The others EATING said canaries and finally only one canary flies away unharmed- WHO? WHICH JIMMY IS THAT? RAHHHHH!!!! This animatic got me flabbergasted.
edit: ALSO THE TRANSITIONS ARE COOL! The 1st one which seems to be only pngs, the second one irl section with canary Jim all alone and when the light shines unicorn Scott apearing, another one the speedpaint which caught the attention of many of the other comenters and finally the canary storm begining to flood the screen. This might legitimately be the best animatic I've ever watched, the art, the animation, the storytelling, the references, everything is just so amazing. The switch in media, that occurs in time with the song is just amazing and how you managed to incorperate so many different references from so many different series in such a natural way to support the storytelling and structure of the animatic is really impressive! The pacing is awesome, and keeps you hooked from start to finish this video does not feel like it is 3,5 minutes long when you watch it. This is just simply immaculate! JIMMY NEEDS TO SEE THIS

SO TRUE DUDE!!!!!!!! Ackk I really love the canary as symbolism for more than just the Life series curse, it's much like the whole "toy" bit from ESMP2 to me, him being at the bottom of this player-perceived hierarchy, often taken advantage of, etc... I'm so glad you see the vision💪💪
Semi chronological list of things I enjoyed about this animatic:
- the canary wings being clipped in time with the music is really good
- both the animation for Jimmys wings and him turning around are super good
- I really like all the colours used in this, they look really good. Notably I really like Jimmys colour palette
- the animation of the rotating Canary is super cool and also such a silly guy :3 always impressed by people who can draw birds just in general + the colours there are also really pretty
- the lightinggggg specifically when Jimmy is running through the different settings
- i like how the Jimmy in the background at 2:00 is monochrome
- the flock of canaries and the sequence of them dying/beating eaten is SO COOL omg I’m obsessed
- the still of a canary in front of the moon is a wonderful visual to end on
- The use of different styles and forms.
The still frames intercepted by bits of full animation. The flower png cut by scissors,,, The more sketchy/ wobbly lineart at 0:55. The glitch on Netty at 1:12z the real life image at 1:17. the bird image on art program canvas at 1:53. AND the animation of the drawing of Jimmy running coming to life at 1:55 it’s so so cool and fun to watch. All these elements feel like they shouldn’t come together but they DO ! And it’s SO GOOD!
- there’s so much symbolism I simply do not have the mental capacity to process at 1 am but that’s also super cool!
- the level of detail makes this so rewatchable. I feel like every time I watch I notice new things. I’ve watched it 5 times. I’ll watch it again.
I can’t imagine the level of not only work but creativity put into this video. I know some elements were taken from the songs mv but there’s also so so so much more here.

I think the story of Solidarity is legitimately the most heavy and interesting one in the life series.
From him dying first almost every time to the fact we literally watch him grow up into a fuller adult.
In 3rd life he was still in his old home with a young clean face.
Now he has his own home, his partner, and his beard.
And the canary in the coal mine works great not only because he dies first. But because he's a harbinger.
The canary dies first to tell the people to get out before they die too. And jimmy dying usually seems to spark chaos.
This animatic has been in my recommended for some time now. I dont really understand the story/the context but the animation is beautiful!! It seems to have a lot of thought-out symbolism and I really love the expressions! :D
This is the type of animatic that you need to watch multiple times because of how good it is! So many symbolism here, i thought this was gonna be a life series animatic but then fwhip and sausage appears too and wow this is so much more than i thought it was! Ohh myyy goddd. Everything about this is perfect. I especially love Jimmy and Joel’s designs! So. I’ve barely watched any of jimmy’s content. But this animatic- it’s so visceral, the way you weave themes together, the use of lighting to express mood, the symbols, the mixed animation styles (I did not expect to jump into ms paint and/or real life grass (so scary)) and basically what I mean is I usually don’t comment on animatics for fear of being perceived but my god this is beautiful and makes me want to binge jimmy’s content, despite it literally being exam week. So. Yeah.

I don’t usually comment on things very much but this animatic has me absolutely stunned. The symbolism of the canaries and the blood drinking, the callbacks to all the smps and life series, I genuinely teared up at this animation which I don’t think I’ve ever done before. I’m an animator myself, not a great one by any means, but I hope someday I’ll be able to evoke just as much emotion as you managed to evoke in me and so many other commenters here.

I showed this to my roommate and I had to keep pausing it to explain the lore so they could understand how cool of an animatic it was. I don't think they understood all the way but we both loved it.

It was only till the second time I watched it I realized Jimmy's feather was being cut(?) so he can't fly. The more times I watch this the more I become impressed of the amount of details, such an amazing animatic!

The scene that starts at 1:53 is beautiful. I felt so much just seeing that sequence start, the time-lapse into rendered animation made my heart lurch. Seeing what happened next made it even better, I love the black and white transition to when jimmy falls. It makes me realize just how tragic jimmy is as a character :,)

@@4mmie it was my aim to contrast the deeper subject matter with something out-of-place and funny, just as on a storytelling level, characters (and fandom) often find Jimmy's deprecation funny while his own joy and whimsy is taken away, I was just playing with that in my reply haha

This is an absolutely beautiful animatic. Your art and animation is so full of life, and the lighting is gorgeous and perfectly conveys the emotion in the scene. The way you included not only art, but other things in it too is so nice looking, and how those parts don't contrast harshly with the art.
