Exton Waite, A British member of Parliament and an old friend of Ramsey's dies from a supposed heart attack while taking cocaine, the reason for his death is kept secret. His body is found by his 24 year old daughter, Tessa. A few days later she goes to France to ask Ramsey for help. While there, she's followed by a mysterious man who later follows both of them back to England. Ramsey later meets Exton's lover, Isobel, who lets him know about what really killed Exton Waite.
I think the more traditional score to this works well, though let down by the rather jarring '80s digital synth intrusions that now seem a bit tasteless - at least to my unreasonably demanding sensibilities!
    First broadcast 14th June 1987.
    Creator: Roger Marshall.
    Cast:
Phillip Sayer as Dr. Thomas 'Tommy' Ramsey * John Benfield as Detective Inspector Brook * Sybil Maas as Dany Lombárd * Georges Trillat as Pascal Lambért * Gaby Dellal as Tessa Waite * Connie Booth as Isabel Palmer * Oliver Pages as Marcel Joubert * Linda Marlowe as Beryl Waite * Alfred Lynch as P.F. * Eric Denize as Tailman * Raoul Delfosse as Serge Costo * Wylie Longmore as Malone Foster * Malcolm Scates as Detective Sergeant Ward * Sarah Martin as Kath Parrock * David Fielder as Detective Sergeant Jackman
"Floodtide was a British television crime drama produced by Granada Television, first broadcast on ITV from 14 June 1987 to 12 February 1988. The series focuses on a dogged inspector's pursuit of a group of cocaine smugglers across Europe and his bid to bring them to justice. A total of thirteen episodes aired over the course of nine months. Co-produced and partly filmed in France, it was one of the first ITV dramas to be co-produced with an international production company. Written by acclaimed The Sweeney scriptwriter Roger Marshall, the series was released on DVD by Network on 19 July 2010."

My pleasure to contribute to Foogou’s wonderful channel. I have watched this series over 20 times. Roger’s writing, the actors and the locations appealed so much to me, when I was younger. When I retire, I am going to visit all the locations used. RIP Roger and the wonderful Philip Sayer who brought Ramsey to life. David

I've watched Kubrick's "2001" about as many times as you've watched this. Clearly connects with you. With Floodtide, you could probably ace the specialist knowledge round on Mastermind!
Btw, Rodney Marshall replied to the "Moving On" episode of Travelling Man with the following:
"Lovely to see my dad's 80s series made available."
      [...]
"There is a chapter on both series [TM and Floodtide] in our forthcoming 80s TV book. My father's happiest years, creating these two shows."
He mentioned a January 2024 publication. I'll contact him before the end of the month to ask for details so I can inform Roger Marshall subscibers on this channel who might be interested to buy the book.

Glad you've uploaded this, courtesy of dsummers1966. I remember seeing this episode, but can't recall seeing the whole series - maybe the commitment of 13 episodes was too great at the time or the younger me wasn't captivated enough? Good to get a second chance, anyway.

Hope you get inspired enough to become hooked. Apparently it's a grower over the two series. I'm new to it myself.

I thought I recognized that theme tune somewhere!!! So, it was Floodtide, okay!
This show came out right before I moved overseas, and I was trying to place the name of the show and the lead actor's name and the production company (I thought it was LWT at first). Only thing I remembered was that theme tune. I will definitely watch this again after all these decades. Thank you!

This is a very interesting series that uses ideas that creator Roger Marshall had intended for the abortive third series of Travelling Man. Floodtide starts rather slowly, but builds a builds across the 13 episodes.

@FoogouFilms Lol. They used to air it Sunday nights, did promos for it and everything. That's how I got thrown off as to whether LWT produced it, but see here that it was done by Granada.

Yes, I think I knew that and I thought Floodtide was going to feature Lomax (Leigh Lawson) but I’ve subsequently read some of the issues around making the third series and why it didn’t happen. I always preferred this series. David

Scenes too dark as if all set at night.
