Hi Jack, I hope you'll read my question and answer me.
Is it worth to buy a Epiphone Casino which is made in China? I'm always a little bit afraid when I read 'made in China' because of the quality.
The first song that come into my mind when i think of this white epiphone casino is "don't let me down".
Same here
that telecaster also looked damn fine
do prefer the epiphone though
I think of Get Back, Revolution, Your Bird Can Sing, Dig a Pony, Hey Bull Dog, Come Together, and Birthday. Lol I am so excited to get my Epiphone Casino! I've been saving for months! I'm a paycheck away!!!! Eeeeek
@@pauldank3453 george harrison played the tele on let it be and come together. I think on get back too. Love the telecaster too
@@andrewbrown5974 John played Lead on Get Back, but yeah it was the epiphone.
I found what I wanted today on Reverb. A 1961 reissue Epiphone Casino in sunburst with a tremotone. I bough it.
I think it was Paul Mccartney that said this was his "desert island guitar" and your demo really tells me that man. The tone is amazing, and when you put on distortion, it doesn't sing, it roars
John lennon used one too. And he played some great riffs on them.
Played one today at my local guitar shop. Absolute dream. Wanna get that for Christmas
Did you get it? If so how does it sound.
The 2nd lightest guitar i owned beside my gibson SG and the p90s are magic. The only sad part is that I can't play it till the 22 fret
p90s are magic - well put!
The casino is my dream guitar 💯💯
My first guitar was a casino. I found it in the garbage that was tossed to the curb. I fixed the neck truss rod with a new nut, took it to a luthier and he did the fret work, checked the electrics put new strings on and cleaned everything up. The label said it was a 1965 model and it had the sunburst finish. The luthier charged $50 dollars for the work he did to it. So for that price I thought it to be a good deal for me. It's what I started to learn how to play. I would recommend it for everyone's first it sound good, relative easy to play, not as expensive as the upper brand name guitars and the best thing is you don't need an amp to get started learning. PS: I sold it for $250.
1965 models are made in USA,they are worth $2000-3000.
@@fisherdole196 I should have kept it.
I am thinking of buying one of these, that is why I am here. Thanks for a great review.
Shit, I'd buy a casino based solely on this video, and I'm by no means a hollow body fan so I definitely don't say that lightly. You got some crazy good tones here dude, you earned a subscriber
Thanks, appreciate the support! Glad you enjoyed it --
Always been a American guitat
r snob (I own a '66 Martin D28, '55 Martin 000-18, '79 Gibson Les Paul Pro Goldtop, '76 Gibson Explorer). And Jack's unbiased video on the Chinese made Riviera P93 gave me pause. So a few weeks back, I bought it and was amazed at the quality and its a terrific player.
I now bought a Casino in vintage sunburst and it is everything Jack says it is. Another excellent guitar by Epiphone. This is probably the most versatile guitar I've played - I can get that silky, buttery jazz tone on the neck pickup yet get that jangly, chimey, bell-like tone out of the bridge pickup. Paul McCartney is so right that if he could only have one guitar, the Epiphone Casino would be it. And I completely agree. A must have guitar if you play different genres of music.
I've just bought one of these. Made in China and plays like a dream right out of the box. Gorgeous warm tones, really well put together. I'd marry it if it I could.
Just bought an orange hollow body. I'm so in love with this guitar. Play it with a big muff and you find that sound. Fun fun fun. Great vid pal
Thank you!
The Casino in my space is the guitar that spends the most time in hand. I’ve got a Joe Pass that used to be my favourite but that all changed one day last November when the Casino came home. I love the brightness and range of tones it can produce. Great guitar still. I think everyone should try to own one at some point in their musical lives.
Agreed!
i just bought the same amp & guitar the other day. i never owned a hollow body before but its already my favorite.
They do quickly find a way into your heart
I hope you enjoy it - I got one a few months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it. They certainly have their own character. The only issue I’ve had was a rattle that was fixed by replacing the bridge (approx £20).
I’ve had an Elitist for nearly a decade now and it’s my #1 guitar. It’s the most playable guitar I own, super lightweight and has that classic “Revolver” tone in spades. I might check out the new USA one once they’re in stores (and the coronavirus lockdowns are over!). The only “missing” feature is a Bigsby, but those are so easy to install that it doesn’t make a huge difference.
Omg I looked up a USA Casino just last night and the place wanted about 5k for it! Was like whaaat
Great demo! I play an Epiphone Dot Cherry Red & equipped with 2 Seymour Duncan Phat Cat pickups. I have not tried a Casino yet, but your demo inspires me to do so. Great tone & playing!
Thank you! Sounds like a cool guitar - you will not be disappointed with a Casino
Thanks Jack! Great job as always! Convinced me I needed a Casio
Always glad to inspire a new guitar purchase 😉
Great review. Thanks for your thoughts.
Great demo man.. i just ordered my casino in vintage sunburst.. cant wait to get it 🙏☘️☘️☘️
An Epiphone Casino through a Fender amplifier is tried and true, and sounds as beautiful as ever. Great job Jack Fossett.
Thanks! It’s the sound - John Lennon played a Casino into a Fender on the rooftop I believe didn’t he?
@@JackFossett Yes indeed. I not sure exactly when it happened, but they switched from Vox to Fender. Their Vox ac30s were beautiful sounding amps as well.
@@JackFossett his Casino is made in USA, different instrument actually.
@@fisherdole196 same instrument, made in different countries🤷♂️ a casion is a hollow es style guitar with p90s and a set neck. Same instrument.
@@IJIIKY9192 I know, but I still dont agree!😁 A Gibson made in Kalamazoo is a different Gibson than Nashville made by an employee who has a year or two experience........😁👍
Good Review, nice balance between demonstrating and telling us about the guitar.
Thank you!
Extremely well done demo. Great info, great playing, and that classic casino tone.
Thank you!
I just purchased a standard Casino in vintage sunburst today. I am generally a Gretsch fan but the Casino called to me. I played it side by side with a Sheraton ii Pro and preferred the Casino. Thanks for the great videos!
I got mine years ago it's a Gary Clark's new Ltd. Ed. Signature "Blak & Blu" Casino is a Laminated Maple, 5-ply Maple/Birch Hollowbody finished in "Blak & Blu" Burst color and love it to bits :-)
Nice! Those are excellent guitars.
Jack Fossett Please Post more about the Casino Jack 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
Where did you find a Blak & Blu? They seem to be rarer than hen's teeth.
New to your videos, but thoroughly enjoying them and have subscribed. I have a ‘96 Casino and play through an AC30C2X. It’s definitely my go-to guitar. Thanks for a great video.
JACK, I GOT A CASINO IN NOV 2022 AND CAN'T FIND A TONE I AM HAPPY WITH. WATCHING YOU I KNOW IT AIN'T THE GUITAR BUT THE TWO AMPS I AM USING. I HAVE A LINE 6 SPIDER V 30 AND A BOSS GT-1. I'VE TRIED TO USE THE TONE EXCHANGE FOR A TONE I LIKE, BUT NO DICE. I'M WANT SOMETHING WARM AND FULL. I DON'T PLAY PRO SO WHAT AMP DO U THINK I SHOUD BUY? BY THE WAY, THE CASINO I HAVE IS EXACTLY WORN ONE YOU HAVE IN THE VIDEO. THAT CAUGHT MY EYE. MY WIFE BOUGHT IT AS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT SO IT WAS ALL HER CHOICE.
I love the Epiphone Casino. I have two of them, a red standard and a sunburst custom with a Bigsby.
I remember when they made a limited run sunburst with Bigsby - is that what yours is or did you add the bigsby after?
@@JackFossett It has a custom-shop logo on the back of the neck. It came with Bigsby from the beginning. It is awesome. My main electric right now.
Great demo. I've wanted one since I saw Neil Halstead plying his sunburst
haha last time i commented here was like a month ago saying i would get a casino sometime this year, got one now, a deal from andertons made me buy a ldt edition in beatiful orange, great guitar. But a funny thing i just realised was that on my casino the 3 way switch is in line with the bridge and on yours it seems like its a bit more down by the potis, no idea why thats the case tho. I think now i have enough 335 style guitars gona look into sgs next. What do you think of the new epiphone line? To me the sg special in faded pellham blue with p90s kinda screams "buy me" :D
I think the new Epiphones look super cool, I can’t wait to try one
Definitely get that SG. I have a red Gibson sg with p90s. They are so comfortable and the sound is so rough and aggressive with fuzz.
Elron I have just been looking at the very same one on Andertons. How are you finding it ?
@@LockStoppageSandwich its a standart casino specwise, the only thing different is the finish and its pretty great, the pictures dont do it any justice, i feared it would be a solid orange but its not, you can see the woodgrain, its settle but its there (more or less depending on the light). Its a beatiful looking and sounding guitar.
4:32 yes
Great guitar and some nice playing.
Thank you
Hi Jack, I enjoy your videos and your playing is excellent, I'm curious, on the new Chinese Casinos, what if anything would you change, switches, pots.....?
Thank you! I’d do a clean sweep, mostly for the reason that it’s hard to rewire a Casino, so if you’re doing it, makes sense to do it all at once. The switches I don’t think are bad, but they could certainly be better. If anything though, I’d switch the pots and caps.
Of course I 've gotten rid of it, but my cherry Casino, (watermelon colored), was the first NEW guitar I bought (in the early '60's). I used it to learn to play with feedback!
Feedback is part of the charm! Sounds like a beautiful guitar
Just bought a blondie based on your playing Jack. Casino sounds the mustard to me. Better than the others, natural richer tones.. Hasn't turned up yet. Might wee myself with excitement. Don't buy every day and only like my squire strat out of my handful. Don't like the Taylor, that's got to go, E string even gets caught on the frets!
jason cox did you get it and how is it? I’m about to get one
@@iost5459 Love it. Something about the p90s that are really cool. It feels good to play and is well made. It's very different to my strats and tele. If it's your first I would say get a strat because of versatility but I like it for straight rock and roll and jazzy stuff. Only negative I can find is the headstock wants to head south because it's not so balanced on your leg but I just put a strap on, Hardly a problem. Go for it.
I agree completely on the plastic vs metallic covers. Plastic is more harsh (reference: Les Paul Jr) so metallic covers really become this instrument. Another great video, thanks Jack!
Thank you! Glad to hear I’m not the only one 😂
Excellent playing. Casino's are so versatile, since buying my 2019 Made in China one my other guitars are gathering dust so to speak.
Thank you! I agree. They’re superb guitars and a real joy to play.
John lennon is a very underrated guitar player. Rythm is just as hard as lead espec johns rythms. V v slept on and imo was easily better then keef
I have a 1995 with astonishing Birdseye maple on the back of the guitar. The holographic on the birds eye maple makes me wish it was on the front. You would not believe it. Have you ever seen that kind of veneer on the back of this guitar. I will try to send you a video.
I've got one with a bigsby, been my favorite guitar since I got it a year ago. You do great domos man Thanks!
Awesome! I remember there being several limited edition Bigsby models. And thank you 🙏🏻
I just picked up a casino bigsby. A 98 from the peerles factory in Korea.
Very nice tones. forces you to play clean and get your sustain from your hands.
@@mtjsmith70 Nice!
Since it is new to me I'm still figuring it out.
What gauge string do you recomend? I think it has 9-42 now.
A little buzzy and slinky.
mojo tojo I personally use 10s, but strings are very much personal preference. Although if you’re finding them buzzy and slinky definitely go up.
The Epiphone Casino is amazing. I own 3 different versions. Why did you remove the pickguard ?
I don’t really care for the look with the pick guard, that’s all.
@@JackFossett Okay. I understand.
It has a raised pickguard then, I presume? They SUCK, like the ones on Les Pauls.(But then, LPs suck in general...)
Great tones on this guitar. What strings (material and combination of gauges) are you using?
Just bought one in the denim blue finish. Im soooo excited
None of the Epiphone Hollow/Semi Hollows have Kerfing. Could that be a short coming to the guitar?
Really enjoyed your review Jack. Very well thought out.
Thank you!
Do you know how much the Casino weighs? Maybe 6 pounds or so. Was thinking about getting one. Thank you.
Thanks for this great video about Casino. I bought mine last week. I wanted to get an elitist or a USA made but they were hard to find here inJapan. I went down to local guitar shops and tried a bunch of china made and one of them was nicely built and rang really well. Most of the others were crap though… Anyway you made me into Casino and I will post a video as well soon… Hopefully you watch it:)
Sounds great. Nice tones.
I’ve been a fan of the snouse for a few years. Great overdrive.
Yeah I love it - I’m a big Bluesbreaker overdrive fan and this is one of the best
I personally like the sg with the maestro vibrola the most!
is it a lectrical gitar?
Thanks for this review Jack, really liked it.! 👍🏽
Love my Casino.
This is the one guitar I randomly picked up at a shop and didn’t want to put down. I should’ve bought it right then and there instead of the coupe. It’s def the next one I’m buying
China made casino is good ? Can you recommend me a good epiphone for soft rock music /pop
I am new I love that guitar I want one but I have no money but well you play the guitar well friend
Thanks!
I've got to get my hands on one, just the Beatles association is enough to put the Hook in me! But... there is a waiting period for the natural finish model Casino, which is what i have ordered from MF. I play Blues, i have a semi hollow but this Fully Hollow has got some balls, i can hear/see why its a classic.
Great video! Your playing really highlights how beautiful these guitars sound. I have a 2011 standard goldtop that I’ll never part with. I play it through an Epiphone Valve Jr. Hot Rod Half Stack and it nails all the great tones.
i own a casino coupe and love it. what amp are you pluged in?
So is this the regular Casino that I can get in the shops now? Where is it built and does it have a model number?
Hi Jack, great video as always, I’m retired and thinking of learning guitar and really interested in the Epiphone Casino, I really like the look of this guitar and the tones it produces, my dilemma is I have short fingers and was wondering about the playability of the neck profile, these guitars are in short supply in the UK right now so I can’t visit a music store close to me and try one, any thoughts or advice on this may help in my decision.
Hello whats the neck like on these? Slim or chunkier?
I like it, sounds mellow. I just wish they'd put the jack socket on the bottom, looks ugly where it is.
I own a few modern Casinos and I had a couple that I had to get rid of and all I can say is check them out as intensely as you can before buying. I ordered an Inspired By John Lennon Casino when they were still available but returned it because the pickguard was not cut or fit properly around the pickups. I had a Cherry Casino that I got rid of because I couldn't console myself with the fact that the tailpiece was slightly out of line with the bridge so that the strings traveled from the tailpiece to the bridge at a slight angle. The sunburst Casino I own with a stock Bigsby was impossible to keep in tune until the cheap plastic nut actually broke in two at the slot for the low E string. This was a blessing in disguise because the warranty service from the music store installed a beautifully crafted bone nut and the guitar plays like heaven now. I recently acquired a Casino in Sunrise Orange and once again the cheap plastic nut was the sore spot. The slots weren't cut deep enough and consequently playing in the open position caused the notes to be slightly sharp. There are videos on UA-cam that taught me how to safely and accurately file the nut to fix these tuning issues but if you are new to guitar you might want to factor in a nut upgrade at the point of purchase. It's also mandatory to change out the cheap strings to a good quality name brand set because it can be impossible to move the saddles far enough to intonate these cheap strings that come stock. Even then it can be a bit of a challenge to get enough travel in the saddles to get proper intonation and it might involve turning a couple of saddles around. Also too bad Epiphone is resorting to now use pao ferro in the fretboards instead of rosewood. It doesn't look dark enough to me. I've never really encountered problems with fret sprout or fret leveling before but their new frets could still use some polishing. In conclusion I'd say they are great guitars but go over them with a fine tooth comb looking for flaws before buying, change out the cheap strings, get a professional setup done and consider up grading the nut.
just bought one. great guitar
Awesome, congratulations!
Nice tone great guitar I have SX double cutaway left handed I my guitar was only 200 dollars and a great sound and gold hardware and pick ups
I also have a left handed agile cool cat big body jazz guitar check out agile cool cat on UA-cam go were the guy age sold check out the sound l have the exact same guitar only my guitar is left handed my friend
I Love Epiphone Casinos; Huge John Lennon Fan! I Don't Have One YET! I Have RICs 381/12 v69FG & 350v63JG. Have Epiphones Black Les Paul, Viola Bass, & Jumbo Acoustic. ThankYou For The Excellent Demo; Very Informative!
Michael Evans sounds like a great collection! I’ve never owned a Ric but I’d love to
Just hit you up on spotify! Great stuff!
do a video about the fender player series
If I can get my hands on one I definitely will!
I tried one years ago, and found it surprisingly lightweight. But the tone was soo nice. I almost bought it.
Yeah these are very light due to being fully hollow. Very comfortable to hold.
@@JackFossett I agree with ya, Jack.
Hi! Would you suggest the Casino or the Sheraton II for jazz? I'm loving the Casino sound but maybe the humbuckers would provide more midrange and warmth
I honestly think either are good for jazz. I think the Sheraton is generally more versatile, but really you can’t go wrong whichever you choose.
I love my Casino. I got it some years ago, and I don't know why but it has a ebony fingerboard from the factory.
Oh that’s interesting -
The best review. Thanks!
Thank you back!
Got myself a second hand one without a mark for Christmas at less than half new price. . Love it. The only real issue was that the truss rod was not correctly adjusted. No tension, too much relief, high action and not holding its tune. Fixed that and now a really lovely guitar to play. I like the pick guard on but it does not sit as neatly as I would like. Minor issue.
I always take the pickguards off casinos anyway - sounds like a great guitar!
Hey so I got a big question, I wanna swap out the standard stock tailpiece on my casino for a frequensator trapeze tailpiece (like the ones on rivieras). Would I have to re-adjust my action or do a new setup or do any extra work because of the new tailpiece or would the guitar play the same since they're both trapeze tailpieces?
I mean technically you should do a setup every time you restring. Not major, but just check the intonation, neck angle, action, etc. That being said, the tailpiece shouldn’t effect the rest of the parts in the equation. In theory at least.
The Casino, as you have it voiced, yields an almost acoustic quality, as though you had snuck a mike into the mix. You're right to say it barks. The attack is quite palatable. What about ease of playing (fretboard) and how troublesome is the P90 hum? I didn't hear it in this demo.
I've never had a problem with p90 hum on a Casino, I think partially because you tend not to drive them as hard due to them being fully hollow. Ease of play is great, unless you need access to the high frets -- thats tricky due to its lower fret neck joint. But if you don't, then its a non-issue.
I am interested in checking out the American made casinos they are doing this year but I’d the price is double ( as I’m expecting ) then the Chinese one will do just fine.
Honestly I’d expect them to be more than doubled. My bet would be $2000-$2500 range, but hopefully I’m wrong.
@@JackFossett Couple of European stores are preselling them for approx $2500 USD. Uncomfortable close to the cost of a used Gibson ES-330.
I am also interested in the new USA made Casino - if they offer a left-handed version. I have a lefty Memphis Gibson ES-330 which is great.
I really want a casino. I have a P93 Riviera and a Ibanez artcore expressionist AS93ME
Nice. Ibanez makes really great guitars. A Casino would fit great in that collection 🍻
I found the original pickups too bright (A5 12.1/11.6k). I had them rebuilt with A4 8.3/7.6k.
Great playing guitar. Comfortable and fantastic for recording. Terrible for live playing though and the pickups quickly get dusty and crackley inside because of the hollow body.
I actually haven't found that problem with them. They've always come across pretty clean sounding to me. Only trouble I've ever had live is with feedback.
Yeah the feedback was really difficult to deal with live. But it was the only guitar I had at the time. And then... someone stole it. I was gutted. It was a pain in the ass but I still loved it. I play an SG now but I may buy another Casino one day.
Hey jack. So you prefer the gretsch g5420 or the epiphone casino?
Thats hard. I think personally I prefer the Gretsch, but I really love Casinos. Its a matter of preference if anything, not quality.
@@JackFossett thanks!
I’m guessing the screw is for the pick guard
Yes
I’m actually listening “Highway Songs”, great music 👌🏽
Thank you! I appreciate that 🙏🏻
Hey y’all so I’m just starting to learn how to play on my older brothers old acoustic guitar. It only has four strings at the moment and it has a small hole on the back but I’m just learning basic one string riffs as of right now (Satisfaction, Dirty Deeds, Smoke on water, Seven nation army). I really want an electronic guitar and I’ve always loved the way the Epiphone Casino Natural looks since I first saw John Lennon playing it when I was a little kid. I’m thinking about asking my parents to buy me one for Christmas but I’m not sure if I should just get a cheap electric guitar for right now since I’m a beginner instead of going straight into the Epiphone Casino. Any help ? Lol
Casino is a great way to start! Middle ground would be a Casino Coupe, which is just a smaller version, but its also less expensive.
@@JackFossett Thanks! I’ll look into it for sure
Another fine video. Thanks.
Thank you!
Had the Paul McCartney Epiphone Casino was Great But being i have CP in my right hand so the Gibson Es 335 cause they neck was more comfee for me. thought wish it did cost $3000 the Epiphone only costs $699
I’m dying for the sound of a Casino in my arsenal, but that 17th fret neck joint is bothersome to me, as are the overly hot pickups and the spacing difficulties for pickup replacement. But yeah, I’d love a Thinline hollowbody in my arsenal.
Christine Hazard you should get one 😃
Hi Jack, is this model a set neck?
Yup! All Casinos are set necks. Unless it’s a knock off.
Great guitar...I've a 2006 Korean one with a bigsby and it's as good as my USA guitars quality wise...in fact its amazing how cheap they are to buy...I assume the Chinese made ones are as good...in fact I may check out a epiphone les paul or SG rather than its overpriced usa equivalent if all l epiphone are ..the joe pass and 335 dot models look nice too...all that Beatles/ paul Weller vibe...and speaking as a owner of a Ibanez George benson GB10SE owner...the casino does nice mellow woody jazz tones amazingly well compared to a dedicated jazz box ..
I actually watched a short documentary on Ephiphone's Chinese factory. It's actually seems like a super high standard factory. Check it out if you can find it, I think it's on UA-cam.
I have a Casino. I love it. It is simply a special guitar. Nothing like it.
Totally agree!
Hey does anyone know what he was playing at 11:12 it sounded sick
I think get back by the Beatles
What differences if any between a Casino and Wild Kat? Would you do a “versus” video? 🙏🙏
If I can get my hands on one I absolutely will!
That would be great. I’m looking at a casino but can’t find any comparisons with the wild kat and as music stores are closed can’t see for myself; specs’ alone aren’t enough. Your reviews and VS videos are excellent. I look forward to it if you are able to. Be safe 🙏🙏
I was in Tokyo and I tried out all of the variants I could find (Tokyo is a goldmine for guitars!). The one I ended up getting was the Elitist 1965 LTD. Ed. version. To my understanding it is exactly like the Elitist except with more vintage correct specs, the lacquer is Nitro, and it has a 17 degree headstock angle instead of the 14 degrees found in more modern Casinos. Hard to distinguish though because the truss rod cover has the E logo instead of the "Elitist" The Nitro lacquer makes a gigantic difference, it was about 5x more resonant and overall felt better to play in my opinion. I paid a hefty price for it though (around 220,000 JPY) but I think it's the closest you can get to a real vintage Casino. Unfortunately people are mostly unaware of these because it is a Japanese Limited Edition model. The new ones Epiphone are making for 2020 seem cool though, however it has the plastic pickups and the non Beatles era headstock shape!
The Elitists are killer guitars. Custom shop quality.
Great choice removing the pickguard, i think it looks much better without it!
Thanks! I agree
Jack Fossett especially on the natural
Where did you get this guitar from?
I traded for it about 7 years ago
It growls
Agreed!
Can i ask a question?
I wanna play Beatles,60's rock and 70's rock.Should i buy a Casino?Or another?Or i shouldn't buy a hollow guitar?Can u help? :)
These are great guitars for that sound, but it depends on how heavy a sound you want. If you mean a much harder 70s rock sound, I’d go for a Gibson SG. George played an SG for a while in the Beatles even though it isn’t thought of as a “Beatles guitar” so to speak
Tbh i mean only one song with 70's rock, song named Just What The Doctor Ordered,so should i buy a SG like u said?
Casinos are great guitars but I think an SG is more versatile

the bridge on my casino coupe was a real piece of crap, always ratteling because of the little wire on it. changed it for a les paul one. and changed the tail piece meanwhile. all black. removed the pick up covers, paint em black too. the nickel finish was getting dull/ rusting where my hand is touching when i play. cherry red with black looks way better to me😎
Is it easy to smash? You know, like intentionally, on stage, when it's feeding back like a B?
I'm a fan of this because of the Beatles
