6:30 - VERY risky move right there. You use a metal screwdriver to poke that pin which has the conductive parts exposed so you could've short-circuited them. Secondly, this pin is meant to be pulled out in a straight way, it's again VERY risky to pull it out unevenly. There are lots of cases like these on Reddit, etc. and people see a spark in that connector and they fry their motherboard. I also experienced a spark while disconnecting and that's why I learned these points but fortunately, it didn't fry my motherboard. The best way to disconnect that pin is to unscrew the battery and then take the battery out by pulling the pin's cable evenly, it's much easier to do it this way too.
I know this is old by now, but I had to comment. You replacer the thermal paste, but not the thermal pads. Once you remove a cooler like that you have to switch out the pads (greenish white soft “stickers” that go over the VRMs and the memory). That is also why I originally looked for this video. I wanted to clean the fans and cooler, but I wasn’t sure if there are any thermal pads under the cooler, or just thermal paste. Thankfully I decided not to disassemble it since I have no thermal pads at home to replace the old ones. If still have the laptop and are going to replace the pads, please measure the thickness, since too thick could mean bad thermal conductivity and too thin could mean bad contact. If you do measure them, please post your results somewhere so I can replace mine too.
demo of what not to do when repaste? 1. pulling the power cable: it was too hard when you did it, and you could easily break it. 2. that was too much paste you put on.... anyhow, congrats on the courage posting this video though!
The chip you cleaned on the left it looked like there was loads of old paste stuck between the tiny chips surrounding the chip you eventually put the paste on. Isn't there a danger of a short if that paste is connecting two of those tiny chips?
Are the cooling fans on Y530 and Y540 the same? I own y540 and the fans require replacement, but I'm only able to find fans of y530 in the store near me. Can I use them instead? Because they look kinda similar. Will it work the same?
I know its old but this model is my only laptop now and i would like to repaste it too (since i never did it in 5 years). Anyone knows if just turning of the laptop and disconnecting the battery is enough for the process? Cause i seen coments in other videos about doing extra safety stuff I hope some could help me and thank you in advance
iv been pretty happy with the device off and battery disconnected. if you like, once battery is removed, you could press the power button to discharged any power left

i was looking for an explanation of how to upgrade my laptop and I found a cute cat. Thanks for that
Cheers
The cat ACTUALLY said «hello» 😂
Hahah

You need to unscrew the battery to remove the connector. It will be hard to remove like that. Mine was bit harder and took me 1hr realise this.
cheers for the tip

Everyone online is a thermal paste expert :)
how would you pull the Power cable then ?
The chip you cleaned on the left it looked like there was loads of old paste stuck between the tiny chips surrounding the chip you eventually put the paste on.
Isn't there a danger of a short if that paste is connecting two of those tiny chips?
If the past has already been stuck there for ages, leaving it there shouldn't hurt it, it is worth trying to clean it all up tho
If thermal paste is not conductive there is no issue then :)
Good video mate, helped a ton.
Glad it helped
I need to replace failed motherboard on this, would love a video on this topic. Is it really hard?
Not hard just expensive as you need a replacement mainboard
can i upgrade the CPU or the GPU of my lenovo legion y530?
i mean by totally removing them and install a better and more powerful CPU and GPU?
Nope, only ram battery and hard drive/ssd

not sure sorry, google model numbers of the fans and look online and see if they are close enough
Hi, do you know where the gpu for the geforce is? I was told it might be loose that's why my laptop cant detect it
its a physical chip. if its not showing up, its a dead chip
What is the black pad on the radiator? (On the left 7:29)
the black square with the cutout is to stop the factory thermal paste from running off the chip when it gets applied
Second Inspection Far Left hand site on the cooper, is to a little leg to keep the cooler from bending
@@rickstechrepairs yes, I am about second. I have it only on one leg. How is it named? I can’t google it…
can you tell me the screw type used on the heatsink assembly?
Can't remember sorry
I have a i7 GTX 1050i in my 530 & want to upgrade to the 1060. How do I go about doing this? I’m clueless to what to buy and where.
You can't change GPU or cpu in a laptop
if you don't already have two matching stick of ram in your machine, do that for dual channel performance
@@rickstechrepairs hmm I thought so lol. I’ll check later on. I have 16GB of ram already.
@@rickstechrepairs damn I feel dumb lol. Ok, I’m going to check when I get the chance. I have 16GB already in it.
may i know how the results after repaste?
Didn't test
@@rickstechrepairs 😧
So what were the temps after repaste
Didn't test
My lenovo legion y530 motherboard are damage from heat and it die
From where i can have new motherboard and how much it is?
not cost effective to do, but have a look on aliexpress

@@rickstechrepairs thank you 🙏🏽
Ok this year old but what is paste for
It helps transfer the heat from the CPU or GPU to the Cooper Cooler, this becomes less effective over time
@@rickstechrepairs ok thank you
masaskra
Getting it done
Did I hear that cat say "hello"? 11:30
Basically lol
Lol the cat indeed said hello, gotta love talking cats 😻
