What do you do with the duck eggs? Do you eat them or give to the animals? I notice too that the largest flock of chickens give you the lesser amount of eggs. I so enjoy watching you Chad! ❤️
yes we do eat the duck eggs but prefer chicken eggs though. We have a customer who buys 12-15 dozen eggs per month and its a chicken and duck combo. Sometimes I'll give the duck eggs to the pigs cause they love em. or we'll cook them up for the cats and Olive. and the chickens right now are hardly laying. The black leghorns and light sussex haven't laid any eggs for a few weeks now (which is normal for them). But it is odd that our best layers the rhode island reds are only giving 3-6 eggs daily. It might just be the time of year or some of them are getting older too. I don't mind really it's ok for them to have a break but at some point I'll need to think about succession planning.
King Fozy , Is it tango , he looks like a lion all muscle. The Tirkys are funny to watch . I hear you do not want to tangle with a wild turky . That probably goes for domestic ones too . The bird feed brings in the rats .i took care of jorses a couple of winters they had a high pitched mechanism that kept yhe mice away .?? Your traps are working . Olive loves being with you . Thankyou Chad for sharing . Hello to your lovly wife . Delightful.!
I have the sound emitters and they’re not working. Someone here said to try cayenne in the feed as the rats hate it but doesn’t bother the birds so I’ll try that. Tango looks like her mom Maggie, Mango is orange tabby but is Maggie’s son and Tango & Bubbles’ brother. Maybe in the last month or so I’ve caught over 30-40 rats so it’s working but a long process. The best bait I’ve used is chicken scratch.
@HiddenSpringFarm thankyou . The war on the rats as you pointed out is never ending .thankyou .I really enjoy your relay with the cats as with all your animals. Have a good day .
Hi Chad, I'm so sorry about Freddie Mercury. A few videos back, my brother noticed that he was doing a strange movement with his neck. At first I thought it was comical but when I watched him do it a few times I realized it might not be normal. We observed it specifically at the 15:18 mark in the duck pond winterization video and also at 9:28 in the prepping for the approaching winter season video. I told my brother that if something happens to Freddie then we will know that the head spinning wasn't normal. After watching this sad video today I started doing some research. At first I thought it was one of a couple different conditions but then I realized Freddie didn't have any of the other symptoms that go with those neurological conditions like disorientation, not being able to walk properly, being lethargic. Literally the only thing he was doing that wasn't normal was spinning his head around. So I kept digging and finally found information on crop issues that will cause a chicken to wildly whip their head in a circular motion trying to either regurgitate their food or adjust their food inside their crop. It can be caused by a number of things, such as sour crop, impacted crop, or even a condition called pendulous crop. Also, when I went to find the spots in the videos to give you the timestamps, I noticed something I didn't notice before. Both times he whipped his head he was either eating or drinking. Although I do know I saw him in other videos whip his head without doing any eating or drinking, but that's also known to happen with this condition since their crop works even when they're not eating. But anyway, I just wanted to let you know about that condition and that it's quite possible that's what he had. As far as the blood on him, well, when poor Freddie finally collapsed it's likely that some of the hens became curious and pecked at him a bit. And specifically referring to this condition, from the research I did, I also wanted you to know that it's extremely unlikely there is anything you could have done ❤. So sorry about Freddie. RIP little guy.

@@kikikaakau-delizo8152 not at all they have feathers. Many small farms even have open air coops. As long as they can have shelter and a dry windless coop they don’t need heat. But in my experience their combs and wattles can get frostbite so it’s better to have a breed with small combs & wattles.

More than Farmers grow mostly Amish Paste and Celebrity Plus. I am amazed by all the tomatoes they get from 11 tomato plants. I found a heritage tomato from Baker Creek seeds called German Lunchbox that produces like crazy and is the first to have fruit and ripen. It is best for sauces because it has a nice sweet flavor. It is slightly smaller than Roma style tomatoes. More than Farmers grew up Mennonite and get all their seeds from Berlin Seeds and their seeds seem to produce better than any I've bought elsewhere. Good vid Chad. Love seeing the whole gang.
Hey just a thought; why not let Bub's loose with the "Crew"?
@@GlenHachey it’s a long story with Bubbles, but short version is I’m worried if I let her out I won’t be able to get her back in.
Hey Chad, -17c in Alberta this morning
@@bigDH123 wow so cold already eh 🥶
@@HiddenSpringFarm Yes, and close to a foot of snow.
We have a Cow Bell that we ring and our cats come. Mabye that would be a idea.
I have to go out and make garden amendments. Better pull the kale first 😂
Wow you still have kale eh 😆
King Fozy ,
Is it tango , he looks like a lion all muscle.
Nothing like a morning skuffle...

Hello from a chilly East Anglia 💚💛 What is the phrase you are using when you’re herding the ducks and geese?
“Tulugan Na” it means Go To Bed in Tagalog (Filipino). My wife is a Filipina so I thought it’d be funny to teach the ducks a second language 😂
@ that’s awesome! We were googling soooo many French and Canadian sayings but had completely forgotten she was Filipino 🇵🇭!! Thank you. I think we’ll be adopting this phrase in our household too now when we’re round up our cats and dog! 🐾 Please give an extra stroke to all your creatures from us!

Are there any plans to give Olive another pooch companion?
One day for sure.
Why dont you use the tube feeder system for all the birds? Seems like it would keep the waste and mess to a minimum.
@@marygiesler1363 I don’t even know what that is, and will it freeze in winter?
@ im referring to the pvc plumbing pipe feeders you made that you use to feed the geese. I thought they were great and wish i had though of that.
Where's the 4th Gosling????
Cracks me up, Olive easily leaps the fences but yet waits for you to open the door on the 4 wheeler for her… 😂😂😂
Using the saw dust for the goose, turkey, duck poop is pretty smart… I use chopped up pine pellets for kitty litter… it turns back into to saw dust when it gets wet… best stuff for, kitty litter…. Absorbs the wetness and the stinky too!
Chunk's getting to be a CHONKY BOY!!! Putting on that winter weight!!! Tango was definitely being stubborn…

@@bel250 I actually touch on that in next Thursday’s episode
Don't the chickens need an artificial heat source in winter? We don't have electricity so we thought we couldn't keep chickens.
@@kikikaakau-delizo8152 not at all they have feathers. Many small farms even have open air coops. As long as they can have shelter and a dry windless coop they don’t need heat. But in my experience their combs and wattles can get frostbite so it’s better to have a breed with small combs & wattles.
@HiddenSpringFarm thanks!
Another question. Do ducks need shots? I know nothing of ducks but am learning slowly.
No, they’re very hardy. I have several videos on how to care for ducks, maybe if interested scroll through the Duck tv playlist.

@@HiddenSpringFarm Ah, poor Bubbles. Some cats are super nervous for some reason. Other good varieties are Amish Paste instead of san marzano and Big Beef, jet star and classic Beef Steak. Good luck. Keep up the fantastic attitude and work! The cedar trees look great!
