I was devastated in 1989, reborn when Afraid of Sunlight came out and a true fan of Marillion in both versions ever since. A great and highly underrated band with two great frontmen, both adding so much personal flavour. As for the band members: amazing musicians that can make magic happen. Thanks for the music all of you! Cheers from the Netherlands from a dedicated, 53 year old Freak.
I too, was very sad when Fish left. Though Marillion with be no more. Then just by chance and like you, discovered Afraid of Sunlight on youtube. Since then, rediscovered the pleasure of listening to Marillion. Have all their albums now, and don't pass a day without listening to them. Love both singers, but I nmust confess I prefer Hogarth voice. As to their style, differenent times, different music aproaches. that is just as simple as that. Cheers mate!!!
@@PLATOON72 No man, he gave the band a 2nd lease of life after Fish left. You may not like his style or the direction Marillion went as it is quite different from what Fish brought to the table, but he in fact gave it new energy and inspiration. Without Hogarth the band would have ended long ago and be all but forgotten. And I have to admit, I had difficulty at first too, but having seen them perform live a few times, I couldn't disagree with you more. But I realize that such is a matter of taste.
Brilliant. Simply, truly and utterly brilliant. First time I've seen this reunion one, didn't even know it had happened. That just made my day. Scratch that, my week.
I love that all the fans sing along even to the deleted verse that they only did live in the early days... so cool that the whole crowd still knows the lost verse.
I lost track about how many times i ve seen this now. Back in the eighties Marillion was the greatest band on earth. When Fish left, it wasn´t the same. I tried to follow with Seasons end and Holidays, but it was just...boring. Fish, the same..Vigil was good but then...boring. Marillion became "just a band" instead of "The Band". And sure..Hogarth sings far better, but Fishs charisma and lyrics...he is not even close. I respect and envy those who still love Marillion today. And i know that Hogarth been there far longer than Fish, but just the fact that so many of us consider him "better" with the band kinda speaks for itself, doesn´t it? This clip makes me cry. Never never underestimate the power of music.
I know what you're talking about: There is a huge difference between this song and "In Memory Of Water". Or, between "Garden Party" and "Burnt By The Sun". Not that I pride myself as a person that hangs on, but there was no replacing Fish. There just wasn't. It's just like how Genesis became bland and unlistenable when Steve Hackett left.
henrik carlsson Fish's latest "Feast of Consequences" is quite good and arguably the best he's done since going solo but a full blown Marillion reunion would be magical indeed.
Fuckin so well put. I know exactly what you mean and it's so so so true. This sadness is what happened and there's no way back. Hindsight would be a wonderful thing. Great things are only brief. At least we have what once was.
Bloody hell, I've been a Marillion fan since Jester, but Fishs' voice is absolutely shot. He just can't sing any more. It's a real shame since he is such an accomplished frontman, but really, he's embaressing himself. It's nostalgia at its worst and personally I hope there is no reunion tour to spoil the memories past... Marillion are an incredible band with H, who has perhaps the best live voice I ever heard.
Good to see Fish back with the boys! Long..........Long............time overdue. If you were there in the eighties, like me, you know what I mean! Come on Derek, we want to see you back where you belong!!
All those people who say, Fish has gone bad at singing... His voice isn't as high as it was in Marillion times, but that doesn't mean, that he can't sing! When you listen to Field Of Crows for example, you will see, that he knows how to use his voice good and as long as the older stuff is played in a deeper key, it's still great. Think about it!
How fantastic is it to see this?! If only they could re-form with fish for a tour it would be massive - but fish cannot hit the notes he used to. They were a great band back then in their day with fish.
@jampatsmy - Fish used to do percussion on stage in the early days, probably stopped around '84 - he used to add 'tribal drum' sound to parts of the songs, standing-up and pounding 2 drums with sticks. You can see this i think when they played forgotten sons on that TV show in '84.
I love Marillion and I love Fish, so don't get me wrong, but watch them perform "Neverland" within the last few years and maybe you'll agree with me: Hogarth has taken Marillion to fantastic places they never could have gone with Fish in the lead. Regardless, they are both great! Just enjoy the music!
Fish makes it very clear that this is Marillion PLUS Fish singing "Market Square Heroes". Both he and the band are on seemingly friendly terms now, but Fish will not advertise himself as Marillion's lead singer, even for a one-off reunion.

I know Marillion have had gone on to have a pretty successful career with Steve Hogarth but the only era of them I have any interest in is with Fish. One wonders if in a parallel universe somewhere there’s still a Fish fronted Marillion headlining stadiums around the world, Pink Floyd style??
Great seeing this, like many below I'll always prefer Fish as the person who gave Marillion "the Lyrics and the Personality" that Steve Hogarth hasn't (IMO) been able achieve, even after all these years. Still, a different singer, a different style, not so many memorable albums.. but some good stuff. Still dreaming that they will reunite to do a combination of the best of both worlds!
Would have given a kidney to have been at this! I was there in the 80's and still see fish live when I can but am not a fan of the new Marillion stuff.
@martinbrownson I both agree and disagree with this.... I think his lyrics are utterly superb, however I also think he has an amazing voice, maybe not so much now, but check some older live performances. He is astonishing. The guy is a hero! Pretty sure i know what "forgotten sons" is about too. I'm from Northern Ireland so it kind of figures. :)
If they want to make some money before they retire and to pay off their houses and depts a REUNION is the only way!!! They both make ok music. Everybody knows the truth even Marillion and Fis, They have to reunite. Like Faith No More
What Fish might be lacking in vocal delivery here - on a bad day - he makes up with energy and stage presence. Moseley's probably playing on someone else's small set; a tricky thing to do (playing on other's set).
alright when done go whip out a quicky album...hell put it on protools, don't even have to be an LP ,EP? u guys already have the gear in front of ya. well i can dream can't i?
Poco y nada queda de esta formación clásica, Fish ya con poca voz no le da la fuerza interpretativa necesaria, ya su tiempo paso y cada cual debe seguir su camino... no obstante Marillion fueron y siguen siendo grandes....
Found Fish very ignorant in this -- everyone got a hug going on stage except Pete, matter of fact he actually turned away from him as he announced him :-(
@Matchaification sorry, but fish's lyrics are FAR superior to Hogarths.... his pale in comparison, and that EXACTLY why i havnae listed to a marillion song after holidays in eden :) Fish, is the BEST lyricist i have ever had the pleasure to listen to END OF
Grendel like Supper's Ready? Yes, it's over 20 mins long and has a section in 9/8 with a similar bass line. And that's about as far as the similarity goes. The subject matter and moods are so different, the lyrics and vocal delivery so contrasting that it's about time to lay this fallacy to bed. Marillion may have drawn inspiration from Genesis, but these songs are completely different.
I think it's mean to say Marillion is nothing without Fish. Personally, I like both Fish and Hogart, but even if I didn't like Hogart, I think all the other musicians deserve our consideration too, because without the instruments, the songs wouldn't be the same either. That said, Fish chose to leave the band, so stop comparing the two and let's thank Hogart for taking his place and not letting a great band die. I'm happy he still has his voice too. Smoking took care of Fish's, it seems. :(
Brilliant to see the Real Marillion on stage again, don't get me wrong H does a great job for Marillion but after Seasons End the music began to change and the style they play now just doesn't do it for me...
Would you really want marillion to sing about jesters for 30 years? Hogarth saved them from an ' imaginative friend/alter ego' prison....u have an iron maiden profile...and even though it still seems to work for maiden, isnt it a bit sad to keep singing about eddie all these years? The day they lose eddie they will.probably be gone.....love maiden though!!!! But stopped following them after fear of the dark....oh and that blaze bailey album that everyone seems to loath???? I liked it😊
I don't think there's any question that H has a better voice than Fish, especially now. But H is no lyricist and no songwriter and he just doesn't have the same stage presence that Fish has/had. Marillion have made some pretty good stuff all through the H years, but the chemistry was just special with Fish. It's not that I've never accepted H, but I was there at the beginning and I remember the thrill and the majesty of the band in their heyday. Fish also seems to have a greater preference for rock and high energy music whereas H seems to favour the meandering ballads and my preference, and what got me into Marillion back then, was for the former. Maybe it's just that artists have a span of maximum creativity and dynamism and, for these five, it coincided during those 10 years or so that they were making music together.
Once upon a time, there was an Marillion with Fish....... A 70ties Genesis tribute band....... Thats it, no comment they were good. Fish left and Steve came in his place and made Marillion mature.... Sorry Fish.
There is no comparison beween Fish and Hogarth vocally. H is a gifted singer with a fantastic voice which seems to improve with age. Fishs' voice has gone. I saw Fish with Marillion many times in the 80's and he was never a great singer live, but the shear force of personality of the man, his stage craft and humour and honesty meant it was something special to see. He chose to leave, so those whinging about H should complain to Fish. BTW, Seasons End and Marbles are masterpieces.....
I have seen Fish several times live, including just a couple of years ago and he can still carry a tune! I have listened to several Hogarth recordings and they just can't hold a candle to Fish era. Fish rules, Hogarth drools! How's that for immature for ya??
not to compare the two bands, but it was the same with van halen....DLR was and is no singer, much like Fish....but what they lack in singing ability, they make up for in aces with charisma.....Very good frontmen, both of 'em.....everybody wanted DLR back in VH and now what happened????they're a parody of their young selves....so marillion fans be content with your new singer.....because you can never go back. why was marillion never marketed in the US? they coulda been huge here.
I pity all the Fishy fans still crying because he left the band 20+ years ago! H has amazing charisma and charm, oh, and something that fish and his fans might not like to know.... H can really SING!!
Fish has balls and charisma, Hogarth hasnt he is just a cliche of a professional rock status symbol, who isnt very impressing to me like the singer of Europe or others..And Fishs solo records are getting better with every record..and in a good sovereign way creatively playing with varifying styles and ideas.. Fish has Chuzpe, even without his old voice, who cares, he is FISH.. I just saw him live, Like his Solothings far better then the standing under/in the shadows of old Genesis Overego..
Never heard such a load of bullshit. Steve is doubtlessly the far better singer ,while Fish's voice is totally screwed as anybody can hear. He's cawing like an old raven, doesn't get a single tone right. So ,no use wining over the "good" old days, it's pathetic, really.
Yes indeed...love fish but the brave album is just......fckn amazing.....fish could never do such a thing and hogart cannot do fish things.... Things change/ end ...thats the beauty of beauty!!!!
I was devastated in 1989, reborn when Afraid of Sunlight came out and a true fan of Marillion in both versions ever since. Fish...meu Ídolo maior sempre .The Best!!❤🤗😍🤩🎙🎶🎸🙌👏

Brilliant. Simply, truly and utterly brilliant. First time I've seen this reunion one, didn't even know it had happened. That just made my day. Scratch that, my week.
Fish is one of the BEST vocals which ever walked this earth....)))
Is Fish seen as a legend in his homeland of Scotland? - He should be!

It wasn't great, M3 - i retreated to the Queen's Head post haste

me too :)
What year was this? Nice to see them all share a stage again :-)
@1450davey Yeah what a well educated response. Proper language, as well. Very well said. Oh wait, no it wasn't.
can't believe it: the fat guy on the guitar is Steve Rothery?!
Why isn't there a proper recording of this? What we have here isn't bad at all, but sure would have been nice to have a real video of this.
its quite easy to sort out start a vote mine goes to H
Pete Trewawas didn't get a hug... :D
Ken Ian Park look untill the end
alright when done go whip out a quicky album...hell put it on protools, don't even have to be an LP ,EP? u guys already have the gear in front of ya. well i can dream can't i?
re unite now!
wow i have always thought fish and phil collins were the same voice...

Danny Brown: You are right in that Hogarths voice didn't fade as much as Dereks.
This is a great song. Thanks for putting this on you tube. I hope that this is a one of. Marillion with Steve is a lot beter.
Found Fish very ignorant in this -- everyone got a hug going on stage except Pete, matter of fact he actually turned away from him as he announced him :-(
David Thomson he hugged him at the end
Hogarth may be the only vocalist in the business whose voice has improved tremendously over the years.
rjmdrum uhhhh have you heard him lately? His voice is dying too
@tekkerz96 I noticed that!?
Are you following fish on Twitter or FB always stressing about Hibs ha ha . Fish the legend
Brilliant , I loved Marillion from the git go . Any Fish haters can suck it !!!
@Matchaification sorry, but fish's lyrics are FAR superior to Hogarths.... his pale in comparison, and that EXACTLY why i havnae listed to a marillion song after holidays in eden :)

they sound the best when they play together, sorry Fish 😍😍😍😍😍
just wish they would slow the hell down.

Sadly Fish has lost the power in his voice, an Marillion has gone too much electronic synthdrum pop. Glad we can still play the old vinyl and cd's!
er Fish didn't always sing like this, check his original stuff with the band.
Fish didnt hug Pete.
At the end he did.
Did Pete get snubbed without a hug????
He gets one at the end
yeah, looks like Fish prob got distracted by starting the song then realised and wanders back with a big smile but pete's already his bass on
What is the name of this song?

nice to see a bit of nostalgia but Fish is now a pub team karaoke singer and the mighty Steve Hogarth a champions league musician and singer
This stage his way too small for that enormous band LOL!
Why did he not hug the bassist? Lol
Yeah, it was crap, it was probably unrehearsed but it was lovely to see the five back together. Now... back to the real Marillion line up.
Stick to your closed-minded opinion if you must, but I like H era Marillion just as much as Fish era.
And nowadays H is a FAR better singer.
Once upon a time, there was an Marillion with Fish.......
A 70ties Genesis tribute band....... Thats it, no comment they were good.

No hugs for Pete? Is there bad blood between them?
In the end they hug…
not to compare the two bands, but it was the same with van halen....DLR was and is no singer, much like Fish....but what they lack in singing ability, they make up for in aces with charisma.....Very good frontmen, both of 'em.....everybody wanted DLR back in VH and now what happened????they're a parody of their young selves....so marillion fans be content with your new singer.....because you can never go back. why was marillion never marketed in the US? they coulda been huge here.
The sound system was fucking terrible
Totally agree here, Fish has bags of charisma, saw him on stage 2018.
Never heard such a load of bullshit. Steve is doubtlessly the far better singer ,while Fish's voice is totally screwed as anybody can hear. He's cawing like an old raven, doesn't get a single tone right. So ,no use wining over the "good" old days, it's pathetic, really.
Hogart is older than Fish, even that better voice...He saved Marillion...
long life Hogart God Bless...
Ismael Leoncini he isn't older than Fish.
Rob Scott Steve Hoghart was born in 1956
Fish was born in 1958
Yes indeed...love fish but the brave album is just......fckn amazing.....fish could never do such a thing and hogart cannot do fish things....
Things change/ end
...thats the beauty of beauty!!!!
