You need to understand how lithium ion batteries work to know why this is happening. When you drain a battery or leave it sit to long and goes below the voltage threshold the charging docks electronics won’t start the charging process. So 1 lithium battery is about 4.2 v fully charged when you use is it it can only drop to 3.2v some a lil lower. Again usually the electronics won’t allow any further but if left to long it will “ leak” out past it. When you plug the battery in the on-board “cpu” checks the bolts if it’s to low it just flashes “no good” . So by jumping it giving it juice to bring it up to 3.2v the charger will work. The best way to stop this from happening is to charge them every so often when sitting and don’t leave them on the tool. In other words you need to maintain lithium ion batteries.
You can also just plug them in and then unplug when its start flashing. Repeat about 10 times and it'll charge it up enough to eventually be able to stay charging
Mine was dead and I mean stone dead. I had left it powering a Ryobi fan for 2 days and forgot about it. This battery was dead! Hooked up for no more than 5 seconds and BIZAM! One flashing red level light and right on charger and back to golden!
Milwaukee needs to be viewing this video and all the comments so they know that there is an issue with their batteries. It seems like new batteries are more prone to this as my batteries from 4 years ago run and charge like a champ. I have 3 2022 batteries that are doing this.
There's no dam reason these batteries should be like that I'd go back to the store and get a new one what the hell is wrong with Milwaukee they should go good for this ! You can't beat your competition with trashy batteries your trying to pawn off
I found a Milwaukee 5.0 battery in the trash at work and thought I'd try to fix it. When searching for solutions, I found this little trick and it worked! By the way, I used two copper wires and a 9V battery just like somebody suggested. Thanks for the info!
Wow, outstanding good thing you mentioned that fuse, my dumba$$ has a metal table and I disconnected the leads and right onto the table, little smoke and we blew a fuse. Subscribed!
Insted of going to this length, try what I did first. the new batters have a little layer of protective coating. Take them out and slam them in several times. After doing this, a few times, it now works perfectly!
Thanks for posting this video. I did it to a tee using the exact same setup, even the 20a fuse. I left them together for about 5 minutes, and it worked flawlessly! Thanks again!!!!
Great video.. had same problem, got good deal on a set, same thing batteries in tools too long and drained.. did this process and got both batteries to work and charge.. thanks
Perfect, this worked! I had a new drill but lost the charger for like a year. I just found the charger and it wouldn't charge. Knowing the battery is basically new and barely used, I searched for how to fix it and found this video. Works like a charm! I only left it on 2mins and it's charging in it's charger now.
Second part of this video can be found here.

Used a 9 volt battery and two wires. Now the battery is charging instead of blinking green to red.

I love.
It worked for me. Thank you. Brand new battery and the charger was telling me it was bad. Thanks a lot! Working great now.
Thanks for the video. Worked perfectly. My son had two batteries that wouldn’t charge and now they are fully charged.
THIS, sir is EXACTLY what I have been needing to finally sit down and research to find.
