Why Europe Is Starting To Control Its INTERNAL BORDERS Too
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лис 2024
- In this episode of General Knowledge I talk about how many European Union countries like Germany, France, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria are implementing controls and checkpoints within their internal borders. Suspending the Schengen and EU Ideal of a free movement of people within the continent. And understanding why this might mean a long-term change for Europe.

*Do you think Europe's internal borders should be open or closed?*
If countries can't control the amounts that reach them by land, then close them. As for a start, actually patroling and pushing back on medditeranian migrant routes most likely would fix the issue to the point the land control exept the outter EU borders, wouldn't need such measures.
@@SmellYaLatter Is difficult when pro Russian states like Belarus and Serbia literally dump people over the border into EU countries.

Ceuta and Melilla is in Africa next to Marocco and they have a 3 layered, Nato-grade fences and barbed wires surrounding them!
That's not a Schengen border. It's Spain and Morocco

Correction: no border controls don't mean free movement. The UK had free movement before Brexit but still had border controls.
Different situation Ireland and UK are island nations.
He's talking about the Schengen area not the E.U.
The Schengen area is an agreement between several countries to create a common entry and exit policy to remove border controls.
Some EU countries like Ireland , Cyprus or Bulgaria are not members and some non EU countries like Norway are.
Before Trudeau became the Canadian Prime Minister Canada thought about becoming a Schengen State becuase only European countries can be EU members but there is nothing in the Schengen Treaty forbidding any country in the world to become a member State.
The UK and Ireland never signed the Schengen treaty , the European Union doesn't have a common visa and border control policy , whoever enters Ireland from outside the EU is up to Ireland and was up to the UK , the UK as an EU member could not and Ireland can not refuse entry to an European Union citizen because they signed the treaty of the European Union that gives freedom of movement to all European citizens.
Iceland as a Schengen State can not deny entry to a Greek but can deny it to an Irish , the Irish can also deny entry to an Icelandic but can not deny it to Greek.
Immigrants from outside the European Union , including from the Schengen area , when the UK was an EU member were an UK choice and immigrants that enter Ireland are the Irish government choice the E.U doesn't have a toss to do it and neither the Schengen area because Ireland is not a member.
If Ireland decides not to ask entry visas to the Afghans , Chinese , Namibian or anyone else it can , they are just not allowed to travel to the other E.U countries.
The UK had and Ireland has it's own visa and border control policies to non E.U citizens.
That's because the UK never joined the Schengen zone. You can normally drive from Portugal to Finland without a passport as there haven't been checkpoints on the motorways, train stations or other roads or footpaths etc. for decades but to get into the UK, you always needed to bring a passport or EU ID card as they had booths set up to check everyone at every port, airport and train station entering or leaving the UK, even when they were in the EU. This kind of thing would be a nightmare on the continent as people living in border towns would have to bring documentation and join a queue for a checkpoint just to get to work, school, go shopping or just to visit their friend across the road. They would have to split the entire town in two. There are residential roads where the traffic lane going one direction is in Germany and going the other direction is in the Netherlands with homes and shops on both sides. Train stations would have to make space to build seperate platforms for train lines that happen to cross a border. They would have to build fences along the borders through fields and woodlands. This would just be really awkward to implement. This plan to close borders for 6 months would likely only be the case on motorways and main roads that have space for such a thing and maybe they'd have border police do random checks on trains, Which is what usually happens when they close the borders. I just can't see them building fences all over the place.
But UK was never part of Schengen. For non EU citizen residents or non EU tourists it was practically like going to the US. For EU citizens though you are correct.
@@jstantongood5474Yes, EU citizens.

Sweden are even giving migrants 35 000 USD per person, and entire families over 100k USD to revoke their citizenships and residency permits to permanently leave Sweden and the EU 😮

If countries in south and east stopped the refugees, Germany and Sweden would not have these problems. My suggestion as a Swede, send them back to Denmark and Poland, if they don't want them they should have had stronger borders in the south.

Also, back to our current situation in EU, the fact that we opened our borders to 3rd worlders without ensuring they assimilate to our culture caused the rise of crime rate and endangered our national security.
So, those who advised this either:
- had no idea that their advice was bad, case in which theh do not deserve to be called experts

Local autonomy eases the burden of a centralized system. If the EU allows its constituent nations to protect themselves and seek their own interests, they can avoid the volatile political climate and foreign policy changes that come every 4 years in my little centralized soft empire: U.S.A.

Yeah germany cant do shit borders are huge that would be so expensive
I mean Germany shouldn't have to do any border controls it has only internal EU borders so that shouldn't be the problem at all because the migrants should be stopped before setting foot on EU soil the fault of this is the NGOs financed by the left wing German government and them attacking frontex and border states who do pushbacks actually solving the problems
@@azelucy1798 But could still be enforced by sending the illegal migrants away instead of giving them freebies when spoting them inside Germany.
Good decision finally. People in the west finally noticed that Europe is Europe and not Africa
Internal border restrictions is economic suicide for the already faltering European economies.
We need more cooperation on matters of security and defense to create a rock solid external border, patrolled by a pan-European border force, and keep our internal borders open for trade.
It would be smarter to work together economically and work on unity and free movement. The internal border controls can be removed if we deport all illegal immigrants and reprocess previous applications.

Some current illegal migrations are allegedly orchestrated by states to cause internal instability and distract populations (i.e., boats sitting idle in the Mediterranean; Eastern European migrations with specific gender-based roles: men for labor, women for sex work; increased criminal-related migration, unlike the predominantly student-based migrations of the '80s and '90s).
Surely you would want them to assimilate into the culture and values of their new home country?
Integration is allways better than assimilation. Why should people stop speaking their native tongue and stop living their culture and/or religion because they settled in another country? As long as you live accordingly to law, basic culture and speak the language or English youre fine

In the 80s the EU didn't exist. I lived there. There used to not be any visa requirements for travel but there was always borders where you had to show a passport. France was the first country to require a visa, if I remember correctly, but we knew a back country road from Germany to France. There was never any of this open travel between countries without having to give a passport at the borders. The exception were those back country roads, but there were very few of those. The visa requirements started because Palestinian terrorists were blowing up Europe in the 80's, they've been terrorists for decades. I got taught how to look for a car bombs when I was in the 7th grade.
Europe was way better then, pre EU, than it is now. My last trip was in 2018 and I don't think I'll ever return. It wasn't safe walking alone after dark, couldn't even leave my hotel room. What a shame, it used to be great. I grew up there.
You're kinda off on your facts honey.
Correction: Romania and Bulgaria's border checks are imposed by Austria, even if they have nothing to do with said borders. Romania and Bulgaria do not want these border checks.
This makes a lot of sense now. I have traveled twice in the past year and experienced border checks. I took a bus from France to Poland with 0 checks. On the return trip we were stopped and passport check not once, but twice within Germany and a third time upon arrival in France. I took a bus to Italy from France last month without a border check on the way there but on the way back into France we had to pull over and every single person and bag (including our luggage under the bus) was taken off the bus and checked.
Well, not in a very short time...but I assume that EU will disband one of these days. It might turn into a purely economic union like the old EEC, but I think it'll eventually happen.
Or the conflict with Russia will inspire them to work more closely together. Monitoring movement across borders is aimed at controlling people who are not citizens, not those who are. It's a very effective way to slow down spies and saboteurs - now they have to have adequate fake ID to travel from one country to the next, whereas before they could go wherever they pleased once they got inside the EU.

That would be a good idea but certain borders are impossible to do that, like the ones who literally cross someone's house etc. It's why the concept of open borders between members started. Schengen made sense before 2015
I do love the idea of Shengen free travle area.. its like USA, exept they have states and we (EU+associated) have countrys, all with our own legslation/rules.. kinda our own laws/rules for living in a specefik country! And who can use that countrys kinda social systems!
At first.. Schengen is soo good, that we dont need to pay for custome control anymore.. so lower budget for custom control and less personel! It was a misstake!
Its still this that every country need to know who is living in there country.. who have legal causes to be there, have acces to social systems, and who shall pay taxes/fees to that country!
In anyway there is a lot of people that doe honest jobs in one country but lives in another.. the prime country to know is probably Luxemburg.. half of there working force lives outside Luxemburg.. becuse they cant afford living there!
Another thing with open borders is that criminals altso can use that.. so crime gangs/drug dealers can live in one country and manage gang members in different countrys!
Then to another topic.. tax avoidant, one can move to/register in another country with lower taxes.. or one can move to another country and tell your tax agency that you moved out.. but never register in the new country! Those seldome become a problem.. if one is rich enough, and have private insurance!
An other big problem is refugees.. or rather they is a problem.. Schengen was not set up for them.. it was set up for us Schengen area citicens!
And they come to Greece, Italy and Spain as there first destination.. its owerveling for those countrys to handle all refugees and many of those refugees have set there sight on more prosperus countrys.. or one where there is a relative!
Soo whats my conclusion.. spend more money on border/custom control.. to make Schengen work, use more intelligens, foto every car that pass a border! Foto everyone that pass the border by hiden cameras/use AI to keep tracks of any suspicius person!
