  • George Dobson is through the door from Charlton, there's a breakthrough in the academy saga, the first pre-season game is this weekend... oh, and a double promotion winner is somehow still under contract.
Nathan and Rich have plenty to unpack in Episode 180 as they debate where new signing George Dobson fits in, while also getting the views of Charlton Athletic supporter and broadcaster Natasha Everitt.
The lads discuss what's been going on with the academy, and why there may be hope for Category 3 status yet.
Hanley Town FC chairman Ron joins the show to preview this weekend's pre-season opener while there is the small matter of Nathan's exclusive story on the situation surrounding Jordan Tunnicliffe's contract.

There's a really disappointing entitlement creeping in here around the academy and an expectation things will happen over night. "I want us to have the best academy" "this was promised in the mission statement". Last year we were playing in the National League! You're also conflating having no

I totally get this perception but what the two of us would say is that the academy have had a year of grace to meet the requirements to get Cat3. We're not lambasting them for not having a Cat1 status academy with a mega money training ground the second they came through the door. Perhaps also on this point we're very close to the issue with knowing lots of the parents with kids who have been worrying for months if their team is getting KO'd for the season. We consider ourselves more of a critical friend rather than the bashers painted above but we might be agreeing to disagree

@@robryanred Yes, the previous CEO seems to have been a bit slack on the urgency. While it was great that they did get it done, this is not the kind of thing where we need "fight for promotion" level drama.

Much needed defensive minded player. Look forward to seeing how he meshes.

Can't read too much into Hanley game but it was a positive start at least

@@robryanred From the Bournemouth game, he still seems like a much needed defensive minded player, with good passing ability to spark the attack if the club can acquire enough targets for the attack or if the Mulls and Lee are available as targets.

just listened on Spotify. With the goals conceded last year, it shouldn’t be a surprise we have strengthened the defensive cohort. I am a little disappointed in the embarrassment of the Tunicliffe contract fiasco? maybe strong wording but this is one of my favourite newly learned uk football terms “tinpot”. It has shades of the “does steven fletcher have a contract until 25” talk back in may. Really looking forward to Vancouver and hoping to meet you legends there. Hope you will be @the Pint pre match. Up The Town.

Ha, Kent! Tinpot is a very fun and popular word here. Looking forward to catching you in Vancouver and yes we will be at The Pint on the Saturday. As for the Tunnicliffe debacle, not a good look at all

Hi lads, the Valley is like , well, Valley Parade I’d say. Pretty big, I went there with Forest about 12 years ago, we’ll get a whole end. The Who played at The Vetch 1976, I saw them there

The Who in 1976 would have been a fantastic memory of a lifetime!! I'm so envious.

I guess the dobson thing means we dont see maca in center mid this year? Im lukewarm on the dobson signing from a squad improvement perspective, but hopefully I'm wrong. And i guess without it him, it would be a situation where a single injury creates a little crisis.

You're probably right John, re McClean in midfield. It's also one of those that is hard to predict depending on how our luck with injuries goes this year

I think Lee and Mullin are the best players, but several are great. Making up this category, but in their prime, best Fletcher.
