chAIR -Manned multirotor Episode 20 -First Flight! Axel Borg

- First manned flight with this aircraft. 162kg TOW total flying time was 8 minutes, which turned out to be 57% of the battery capacity. This means that the craft has a theoretical flight time of 14 minutes 100%DoD. 11min 10s until you are down to 80%DoD. My assessment is that 10minutes is the real safe flight time capability with the 35kg LiPo that are currently mounted on the craft. Overall the test went really well. There was a little more vibration than I had anticipated, and Yaw directional stability in forward flight was inadequate. In this first flight the I-gain limits were set to zero. Next flight the Yaw I-limit will be set to a value above zero to obtain better directional stability.
Regarding wearing MC suite and full face helmet etc. etc. This project is about obtaining the precious feeling of freedom. 10 min at a time LOL...-I know, but still.....so wearing a fortress would be counterproductive. I have tried to build in safety in the structure itself, so that I can feel FREE. Goggles and ear protection or headphones is a must. All other clothing is OPTIONAL. Im flying in a un-populate area, so I just might try flying nude. I promise to NOT make a video documenting that flight... LOL!
Setup:
FC 5x KK 2.1 running stock 1.6 firmware
Motors 76x Multistar Elite 5010 274Kv
ESC 76x afro 20A HV, with one extra 63V 330uF low ESR capacitor fitted to each ESC to handle the long current path from battery to ESC.
Batteries 80x Multistar 4S 5.2Ah
RC 5x Turnigy TGY-i6S Digital Proportional Radio Control System
All of the above purchased from Hobby King, -my favorite online hobby shop!
Total cost approximately 10.000USD - Наука та технологія
This is truly spectacular! You did an amazing job!
And a record for the LONGEST running time for a human carrying multicopter.
johnny :D
Bablarna
What a nice guy. Such great attitude. Keep up the excellent work.
Such great altitude.
If the cap had come off: what a great hat it chewed! Great test flight, and yes - a nice bloke. Good luck with all the future developments.
SuperArmus make a nice guy mad or extremely anoyed and see what happens mean ppl would cry when good ppl go bad
what?
We are living in an amazing time, really well done mate! Love it :)
That giggle after second flight just said it all :D
Super nice videos, thanks !
the smile on your face, good job
Joey Mantka wat.
Joey Mantka Wat?
Before this video I had a few ppl that I considered my heroes.. Bruce lee and Micheal Jordan have now been replaced by you. My hats off to you good sir you have done something that dreams are made out of.
19:20
I must go, my people need me..
haha
HAHAHAHAHA
Amazing achievement. Looked like a butterfly when landing and in the air very much like the 1910 to 1914 style. Beautiful and a lot of fun to fly.
congrats! one thing: in paragliding harness it is quite standart to have an airbag below the seat (either foam or just an airfilled pocket. this can prevent spinal injuries.... might be an easy, valuable and very light addition to the underside of your chair...
looking forward for the next flights..
Your engineering ability has captivated me since the petrol beast. I knew you were going to do great things the second you started this new project. This sets the bar to a whole new level with manned rotor copter flight. Thank you for sharing!!!
faa require all aircraft to be able to land if the craft loses power. yes helicopters can do this.
YOU DO REALIZE THERE HAS BEEN ACTUAL COMMERCIAL QUAD COPTERS BEFORE THIS GUYS, NOT TO SAY HIS PROJECT IS ANY LESS IMPRESSIVE TO ME. SORRY ABOUT THE CAps im not re-writing this
You might not have thought into this design as closely as someone with an aviation background to realize the safety redundancy built into this aircraft.
How good are jet-powered commercial planes at landing without power? Helis can autorotate, but jet planes suck at gliding.
Nemozoli Comercial jet planes can glide and many have been landed safely after all engines have failed miles from the airport
Just amazing how smart some people are and then make it all happen. Brilliant stuff.
Denny Law and then forget all the safety aspects and go bareback
@@StickyIky Sometimes there"s a cost for success I guess huh.
Yeah, most people this smart usually become referred to as " the late..."
@@markcynic808 You are a cynic for sure. At least these type try to make things happen unlike 95% of the world that simply watch everything happen and make sarcastic comments and remarks. We all have our place it seems.
@@dennislaux
Indeed we do, and your place is among the naive and ignorant. Contraptions such as the Volcocopter are far more advanced and have been around for a decade or more. Even this is still not commercially viable. They just cost too much.
What a beautiful, magical setting in which for this to take place. The perfect location.
You will inspire generations to come. Thank you for the ear to ear smile.
Could you wear a Batman suit next time and play flight of the valkyrie's?
Do you have someone there with you in case you need help? Maybe you could live stream your test flights just in case?
No Capes! :-)
That'd kinda be like wearing a tie while running a lathe! lol The music would definitely be very fitting however.
Impressive work, amazing even *wink*
There is no fucking need for this guy to wear a Batman suit..
People should want to wear the suit of this guy!!
Headphone Amp, indeed, he does have nice skin. I would wear him.
That is what I call serious FPV!!!
needs some camera tilt . LOL
Jason FPV Yep! Soft mount the pilot!
was hoping he'd power loop those trees :(((
Fasten your seatbelt before doing flips and rolls :)
Can't wait for the "First acro flight" video
Absolut inspiring, great job and a big spirit! Thanks also to your wife and family for support and understanding, to let you do it. Cause we had fun!
Brilliant!! Its amazing to see all that nature and that piece of technology together!
7:00 the look of" when you go lipo and electric, you never go back" hahaha
i've never clicked on a video notification so quickly!
Right!
Joshua Tulberg Me too... it means he survived!
Same!
Lol same here!
I thought is was just going to be a lot of talking with no proof to the pudding...
But that was amazing...
you could tell he got tickled when he made it pop u and down...the look on his face and his body tensed up...
Amazing engineering! I love the cautious attitude you have about flying because I cannot maintain that much self-control. Thank you sir for the ride.
You have done an amazing job. I have yet to decide what's more incredible, what you built, or the fact you flew it right down that row of trees and back, with only a few meters clearance. Well done👍🏻
This is AWESOME! I'm so happy to see this finally fly! Cheers mate
Amazing. Respect is due! And yes, that vertical speed looks exciting.
Thank you for making it feel like 2020. It's about damn time. :)
That is so awesome, I excited for you and your new invention!
That's incredible!
Congratulations and keep on doing the great job!
Fantastic, I think all who are watching this as you struggled with the cap said Throw it away and we all yep that's the way. So good to see it up and going away from the houses. I really like this design better then the rectangle with the petrol motors, I know it doesn't have a tail but the way the four sets of motors look it just reminds me of a Dragonfly. I am a year and half behind but I am looking forward to more flights.
Cheers thank you and good luck :-)
Det best thing with this video is the way you show your true personality Axel!
You got an idea, and payed the price to achieve that goal.
Your attitude is your point!
I love watching the smile on your face during this video. Good clean fun. Priceless!
Congrats! Very nice flights!
Excellent work! You look like a supervillain sitting in your floating chair wearing all black :) Can't wait to see you take it up to treetop level.
dekutree64 Exactly what I was thinking. Some random comic buff hiker would of had a heart attack seeing him come round the corner..
Pionneers like you, offer people like us, a better mode of life. Go ahead and THNX for your time.
Amazing idea! Practical, simple... congratulations man!
Your local pub is going to have the strangest stories:
I saw Bigfoot! i saw Aliens!
Yeah... well i saw a NAKED MAN FLYING THROUGH THE FOREST IN A CHARIOT PULLED BY BEES
Best comment so far! :v
That was too good, thumbs up, Roid. Glad I'm not the only smart ass here.
Laughing so hard bees you get bees you all get bees!!!
+roidroid - I crown thee..King Smart Ass, and award you the internet of the week.
I think we can all agree with anihortes. I'm really not sure, but I don't think I could have said it better myself.
Ах как все хорошо смотрится и сколько по за кадром вложено труда. Низкий поклон таким людям.
My god man. You are the first person I’ve seen do this right. Bloody brilliant
Makes me envious and wishing I was young again, I don't think I can step high enough to get in the chair. Excellent build... enjoy the freedom of flight.
You flew from here to there, and back! That's what counts... Good job!
What an awesome engineering feat! Congratulations sir!
I would add 4 small guards to prevent a flying prop from hitting you.
Maybe add some light shocks to prevent a hard landing from breaking your back.
All in all, what a great job.
I'm from Indonesia, amazingly inspiring, added value for you
Congratulations It is wonderful to hear and see the joy in you expression. Great to see you having fun. All the Best : - )))
Hey dude, finally you did it! Almost 6 years after my "worlds first flight of a manned electric multicopter"...
Anyway, I like your design. Its well engineered and quite safe.
When the government comes to say "No", just claim it is a "Skirtless Hovercraft". Congratulations!
Wholly Mindless - it's look like he is in Sweden and hovercrafts is actually illegal here without special permission so that is an bad idea...
I think in Sweden this is counted as ultra light plane which needs no permits.
To fly ultralights in Sweden, the pilot needs a national license and a medical certificate. The plane itself must have a type certificate, will be due for yearly airworthyness checks, a yearly national fee and must have a liability insurance.
Wholly Mindless I had a similar thought a few months ago, dress it up in a skirt, then it is a hovercraft, should work, those Inductrix ducted fan quadcopters work well.
Jonah, that is a lot of money on top of the construction just to have a few minutes of fun with it every so often >.>
You can change the world with your creation!
Its about time this was perfected....well done indeed. Awesome.
What a great achievement, congratulations! Hope one day you'll get rid of that awfull noise and place wisper fans! The tech is MEGA
I'm smiling from ear to eat!!!
Wow you must be hungry!! :)
An individual empowered by knowledge and technology inspiring us all
Well done, you! Few have ever achied this, much less this control. I am extremely happy for you!:-) - Kevin
Closest yet to delivering on the fifty year old Moller Skycar promise... Great job!
Actually there is one for 35k us that is electric and fly's for 30 mins that looks like a sky car already...
I got to watch the Moller in flight at UC Davis I'm the late 70's. This is much easier to control, but a lot noisier.
Nice flying Da Vinci!!!
Man This project is jaw-dropping!!! Have a safe flights and don"t forget to wear helmet!!
BY FAR THE BEST PROTOTYPE I HAVE SEEN SO FAR, NOT THE PRETTIEST, BUT IN PERFORMANCE, IT LOOKS REAL SMOOTH MAN YEAH!
This is so awesome! in 30 years when everyone has hoover bikes etc this is the clip they will show on discovery channel about how it all started ! :D
Auarhau They already have one seated helicopters, even closer than this butterfly looking thing.
Probably even ten years.
@@SpaceCadet4Jesus yah but a mosquito helicopter still has to have a license to pilot if you dont want to die, this is something anybody can fly
@@nick-dm3if anybody can fly a mosquito you only need a licence. Multicopters will also require a license soon enough. I feel much more comfortable in a helicopter with its ability to autorotate. Much safer than these contraptions
Hmm I wonder why Dyson haven't made one yet.
Jag ser varje ny video med skräckblandad förtjusning! Du är inte riktigt klok men på det mest positiva sättet. Hoppas verkligen allt fortsätter att gå bra, lycka till!
This is a lot to absorb and I appreciate the fact there is no long boring intro lol.
YOU'VE DONE IT!! FINALLY!!
Congrats x 1000!!
This is by far your most solid consistent design! absolutely inspiring!!
(I knew you were going to throttle up a few times when you returned from the 2nd run.. lol) Cheers!
At least he is wearing eye protection in case one of those blades brakes apart. He should be wearing some kind of neck protection too.
And a helmet...
My first thought was hearing protection.
I hate it when the inventor gets killed while trying to prove the machine works.
This is wonderful! Perhaps some sort of cushioning to protect your spine from an accidental drop? Looking forward to the next flight - we'll done!
Some people have way too much time on their hands... Stellar work Sir... Bravo...
i was following all your previous videos of attempting to get your bird to fly and now its s9 amazing.congrats and thumbs up for your achievment
That grin could be seen from the moon :) Congratulations! That's a well deserved success :)
Your level of confidence was obvious on the last flight, I bet it was hard to stick to the test plan :)
So true!
20:37 This looks like a Crash Bandicoot boss flying in to give his monologue before a fight
Excelent job, the world needs more people like you.
I love this! This gives new meaning to "death from a thousand cuts".
tell it brother
Maybe you should build the chair out of a crash pad, or get one of those inflatable chairs, would be good in case of a crash landing :) anyway you should find a lake you can fly over next! Great project so awesome!
Light as well!
I'd stay far away from water for a good while.

This is the most efficient mosquito killer I have ever seen!
It looks like a science fiction movie. It’s wonderful to invest in a project and see it work. I can imagine the satisfaction this man feels now. I think that some adjustments will make this invention more secure and perhaps marketable. Since I saw a drone for the first time, I immediately thought about that possibility. Why not a super drone to drive people. Good that someone thought about it too and happily ran the idea. Sincerely wishes this invention can really be used and improved. The little man started coughing on the first flight, imagine with so much dust that the propellers raised. Let's go ahead, the future is right there. Congratulations for the initiative man! 🏆
This is what youtube was made for.
Absolute Mad Lad.
Love it
If one of the supports fails and one of those panels flips on your face, you are gonna have a really fucked up day. No helmet or full face shield, because who needs a face right!?
I have a special quote: "play stupid games, win stupid prizes"
Indeed, quit hovering by the ground and get up there. What is he waiting for?
illidur a cameraman to tilt the camera
illidur he was tuning/adjusting controls I think
+Leith simpson
He has a camera with him.
wow . wasn't expecting this so soon
Smiling while flying your great invention. ("This is living"). Hope the book has some personal additions as well the specification. "Thank you for the uploaded & for sharing". Kind regards Nathan, Australia.
That is awesome and it looks so stable in the air to
20:22 imagine you are walking through the woods and suddenly you see this coming towards you :D :D, amaizing :)
me : Though the boss is here , Where the hell is Boss Music?
Seemed like it has the ability to leave ground-effect.
Excellent machine!! I like your design the best so far, because you have good weight and balance configuration.
I would love to see a refined version of this with safety precautions in place. Absolutely fantastic!
Let's get this thing to an open field and really cruise around...
I cant believe they chose to fly it in the trees
Perhaps because any kind of windy weather is going to result in death or injury.
Sounds like a giant swarm of angry bees.
very angry bees
To be fair, this is nothing compared to the sound of chinook. If this could be scaled up the applications would be endless.
wait... it's not a giant swarm of angry bees?
The angry bees will clear out when they hear this thing coming.
What a cool person. You rock, brother!
Awesome. I wonder how it would handle the weight of a tesla battery module. 4 times the wh for a little over double the weight.
...... Ish
Do R/C! thought the same but is it smarter for him to wire up individual 18650 cells deu to placement and weight
Do R/C! The cant handel the amp draw
If only he put in the sounds of The Ride Of The Valkyries with this video.
Clap clap for You! That is absolutely amazing!!
Congratulations!!! Great Job!!!
Now get a seat belt and let Mr. Steele pilot you!
k4144 YES! although he would probably black out from the elevation changes and forces and science stuffs
And helmet
Amazing! But wear protective gear! If one of those propellers flew off, you could be dead.
Totally awesome. Just wow. Brilliant
Captions say, music, applause when they should likely say, dust... wind.
Amazing achievement!
Very cool. Your vertical is strong, but I bet you're now considering how fatigue resistant the kevlar strings are that support your four "propulsion rings" and inspecting for stress cracks in the rings themselves. You may want to get some kind of helmet and some hearing protection if you keep this up!
I doubt he needs hearing protection, but yeah, a helmet would be an idea!
Has earplugs, as you can see in the video.
Time index? I see no earplugs. (I see a strap for his goggles.) And there'd be little need for earplugs. They're brushless DC motors, almost completely silent. The only noise comes from the propellers themselves.
If this guy had any concept of safety he'd be wearing a helmet.
He has ear plugs and wind noise is the problem, not the motors.
Earplugs WHERE? WHEN? And wind? Seriously? He's moving at a walking pace.
2017: Nope
2018: Not yet
2019: Nah
2020: Yay!!! UA-cams algorithms kicked in...
You're an idiot!
Why is this a meme? I can't wait until it dies.
Thiesen stop with this stupid comments everywhere its pathetic
Now THAT is cool! Great job!
wow I can see it is the first step of your epic journey.
I'm more impressed that none of those props went flying into his face. LOL
that is also the thing when i was watching that
That's why you'll never be this cool 😎
I was never cool in the first place lol
Amazing! BUT DUDE! - EAR PROTECTION. I was wincing during your whole demo. I had the benefit of volume control and it was still uncomfortable. Otherwise, hats off to you (no pun intended),
This is the type of ingenuity that paves the way. Great work!
Notice the helmet and knee pad comments on here, I don't see them doing anything worth while. They will never forge the way to any invention
Awesome! It looks like fun.
Well done! What an achievement! :-) If you want the attention, make a ca 2min highlight edit which can go viral (longer and the attention span of the masses is waning .....)
That's a good point. It is better for him to do it rather than someone else doing it and getting all the views.
Tom Hoffman I can imagine it already "OMG WHO DID THIS? INSANE GUY CAN FLY"
19:00 actual flight test...
Perfekt att blåsa över löven till grannarna med på hösten! Fin uppfinning, bra jobbat!
I'm so glad I ran across your chanel. this is amazing
