Have you guys ever thought of putting a cage around it like one of those cage quad copters? That way it could roll in the ground and if it bumps into any surface it would be perfectly fine. The other thing to think about is either the rotors being able to move and keep the cockpit level, or design it where everything moves around the cockpit and it can stay level or just slightly forward. The pilot needs to be able to see everything and stay level, while doing wild maneuvers . I thought about this when I was looking at the early designs of quad copters, and it might be a good idea to go back to that - and just Gimble everything around the cockpit.

@@JackieWelles Multi-rotor Aircraft is already a classification. There were experiments during ww2 with flying disk-shaped thing that was intended to be used as a scouting vehicle. At the time it was deemed too unstable of a platform. It was the same basic concept as this, multiple fans forcing air down to lift a craft into the air, the problem was that a human could not make the thousand of adjustments needed to keep the thing in the air. We now have computers small and smart enough to make those adjustments. The technology has caught up with the concept.
A "Drone" with a human pilot is no longer a "Drone"...
VTOL can be manned or unmanned
@@jimbopg4245 When it is manned, it's not a drone. When it is unmanned, it's a drone. What makes or brakes it being or not being a drone is whether or not there is a person on board. It's not a permanent state of being. IF you fly a 777 passenger plane, empty, with no people on it, it's a drone.

Amazing. So cool. Good for the FT boys!
I think you remove the word ‘drone’ if the person inside is flying it correct? Aircraft?
The person is just baggage if they're not piloting it. No different than a few bags of cement. Or in this case, a mannequin that weighs a few pounds.
Drone implies that it is "dumb" not carrying a pilot. Usually this means piloted remotely, but computer advancements have introduced some AI piloted drones. UAV is the term for unmanned aerial vehicle, usually they are synonymous, but sometime differ as in this case.
Perhaps the word redundancy would be more precise
SMART! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. TECHNICALLY DRONES ARE DRONES BECAUSE THERES NO PILOT ON IN THE AIRCRAFT! ONCE A PILOT IS INSIDE IN CONTROL OF IT IT BECOMES AN AIRCRAFT, DRONE DONT HAVE PILOTS
Really the word 'manned' should be removed, as I don't believe the person is flying it.

I reckon this will be the future of cars, imagine it can drive and fly? This is a big moment for the human race.
Technically a drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle. So that thing wouldn’t be a drone itself
Technically yes it does, Unmanned also means autonomous in addition fly-by-wire the difficulty with this kind of aerial vehicle can't be controlled by normal means of flight alone. Since airplane have auto-pilot that also in a way counts as drones in my opinion.
The guy in the drone was not flying it. He was just ballast. It was manned in the sense that there was a man in it, but it is still unmanned because the pilot was not.
j0m017 but it is still manned 👀
Have you guys ever thought of putting a cage around it like one of those cage quad copters?
That way it could roll in the ground and if it bumps into any surface it would be perfectly fine.
The other thing to think about is either the rotors being able to move and keep the cockpit level, or design it where everything moves around the cockpit and it can stay level or just slightly forward.
The pilot needs to be able to see everything and stay level, while doing wild maneuvers .
I thought about this when I was looking at the early designs of quad copters, and it might be a good idea to go back to that - and just Gimble everything around the cockpit.
If it's manned, doesn't that mean that it's not a drone?
