First verse Ian Moss sings, Verse 2 Mick Pealing, verse 3 Broderick Smith, Verse 4 Jimmy Barnes and Renee Geyer. All recorded in 1980 in Melbourne at a memorial concert.
I don't think mick would like you calling him Pearling, I mean Pealing is his surname, and the Andrew Durrant Memorial Concert was at the Palais Theatre in StKilda. Mick had a band called Mick Pealing and the Ideals after Andy passed. The drummer went on to play with Mondo Rock, JJ.Hacket, the bass player became a band manager, Ian MacDonald, the lead guitar player, Malcom Eastick went on to play with Broderick Smiths Big Combo.
@@stephenanthony6508Mal Eastick also was in Jimmy's solo band in the beginning. Broderick Smith eecently passed away and Renee Geyer a few months ago.
I believe this was around 1980.....Thank you for playing this suggestion. So this concert was a memorial for the late Andy Durant RIP. He passed in 1979 of Melanoma at the age of 24 or 25. The full concert is epic and showcases the songs Andy wrote, except of course this song by Bob Dylan. The piano in the introduction is played by Don Walker of Cold Chisel. The humming at the beginning was Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes, but the camera was on Ian Moss. Verse 1 - Ian Moss (Black Shirt with the guitar), Verse 2 -Mick Pealing (Blue Suit) who was the Lead singer of Stars, the group the memorial was for, with the loss of Andy Durant, their song writer and guitarist/singer. Verse 3 - Broderick Smith RIP (Lead Singer of the Dingoes, and middle person in the group of 3 with Richard Clapton in the black leather jacket, and Billy Rogers). Verse 4 - Jimmy takes the microphone out of the stand... hold onto your socks.... Jimmy Barnes (Red T-Shirt) and Renee Geyer (pronounced Gay-er, our soul Queen of Australia) RIP The other guy with a red dress shirt singing with Ian Moss at times is Glyn Mason. The second guitar soloist was Mal Eastick, in the light blue shirt. He was the guitarist for the band Stars.

Good run down, all the production crew worked for free as well, from the distant memory. Malcolm's cousins, two brothers were roadies, I believe that they both worked on the show. I missed out, I was working that night.
This is from the Andrew Durant memorial concert, in 1980. Andrew Durant was singer, songwriter and guitarist with the group "Stars". Sadly, he passed away at 25 from cancer. All the songs in the concert, except "Knockin on heavens door" were written or co-written by Andrew. Wellworth checking out.
I remember this concert among other things as my first introduction to this song. Compared to this the Axel Rose version has always appeared like a socks down the jocks plastic version of the song. "Wah Wah knocking on heaven's door oar yeah yeah yeah." The Axel Rose version gets played in rotation on FM radio here in Australia and I have to listen to it at work knowing that the perfect version of the song that I listened to in my youth played by our best rock artists is never going to be played.
Oh my, listening to this has just set off my memories. So many great performers here in Australia. I am only new to your channel, so I have only just started listening to your catalogue of past reactions. My memories go back a bit because I have been a life long lover of music since the 1950’s and I have to give credit to the many Britains and New Zealanders who have enriched Australia’s music scene for decades. From New Zealand, Max Merritt and the Meteors (pure 60-70’s) then Split Endz and Crowded House and many more. Of course AC/DC, Stevie Wright, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, Olivia Newton John, the Gibb brothers and many more from the UK who have entertained us over the decades. I won’t even attempt to laud the Aussie born talent with the exception of the one and only Renee Geyer RIP who shared the stage in this memorial concert. They were the trail blazers for the successful talent that has emerged to follow in their footsteps.
Tamborine guy is Jimmy, first guitarist Ian Moss. Piano was Don Walker also from Cold Chisel. Organ solo is Mal Eastick from the Stars. Renee is Australia’s First Lady of RNB and soul.
You are correct the tambourine player in the red t shirt was Barnsy as he is known locally he was singing with Rene Geyer ,RIP an Australian rock and blues singer who was well-known worldwide for her songs STARES AND WHISPERS and HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. if you think Barnsy can belt out a song look up his daughter Mahalia Barnes singing a duet with guitar legend Joe Bonamassa called RIDING WITH THE KINGS or her song NASTY GAL you wil be amazed, guaranteed .
Similar to this but much better is Jimmy with INXS doing a live cover of Good Times , also The Party Boys cover of He’a Gonna Step On You Again..... featuring Jimmy’s brother John Swan ( Swannee ) The Party Boys were a rolling band for Aussie and New Zealand musicians to keep in practise when between gigs and employment, or other projects. Also included international stars from time to time, like Graham Bonnet, Eric Burdon and Joe Walsh.
The first singer is Ian Moss, lead singer alongside Jimmy Barnes of Cold Chisel fame; Jimmy is on tambourine, the female singer is Renee Geyer. All three are iconic Australian artists.
This was a memorial concert for Andy Durant, the songwriter and member of a band called Stars. First verse Ian Moss sings, Verse 2 Mick Pearling, verse 3 Broderick Smith, Verse 4 Jimmy Barnes and Renee Geyer. All recorded in 1980 in Melbourne. First guitar solo is Ian Moss, and second guitar solo is by Mal Eastick. Piano player is Don Walker. Female Singer is Renee Geyer.
In August 1980, a “who’s who” of Australian rock talent took part in a memorial concert for Andrew Durant, guitarist & songwriter with the band Stars. Durant died in 1979, of cancer at the age of 25. Among those who took part were Jimmy Barnes, Don Walker & Ian Moss of Cold Chisel. In this clip, all the artists in attendance performed a version of Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heavens Door”. Jimmy duets with Renee Geyer.
if you haven't done Stone Cold with Jimmy Barnes & Joe Bonnamassa, it's a masterclass. Then you need to slide down the John Farnham worm hole, "The Voice"
They had to put Barnsey last because it would be unfair to anyone trying to solo after him. Renee Geyer has one of the best female voices in Aus, but since she mainly sang soul, blues etc she didn’t have the fame of pop and rock singers.
Mal Eastick from Stars. Great band. Mal played with Jimmy Barnes band when he first went solo in 84. First hit for Jimmy was No Second Prize from his first solo album. From the Andy Durant Memorial concert and if you want chills Ocean Deep is heart wrenching. Andy wrote it on his death bed. Also Jupiter Creek, Last of the Riverboats. Brilliant one off show from 1980

Bon was not the original singer of ACDC, he was the second. Believe it or not, they started out more of a glam band. There is a video clip, more than one actually with the original singer. The song sounds more like something that Hush should've released. ACDC was a good band, but the front man didn't have that stage persona, when Bon came along, the band was complete. The video with the original singer is on UA-cam. I was in a hotel room and someone said how Bon was the first ACDC Front man, I got into an argument with them. They all told me that I was full of it. But it was a hotel that bands stayed at in Bondi and I just rang one of the older crew guys and he confirmed it. Everyone believed that Bon was the first Front man, nope. That was in about 82. The first singer Dave something only lasted a few weeks, maybe a month. I do know that I never heard of him again. Just looked at it, Dave Evans was the first Front man.
Yes has some of the most amazing musicians from Australia, it is a who's who of Aussie rock royalty. Renee Geyer the female singer has more soul in her little finger than most can ever achieve. Oy, Oy, Oy Aussie Aussie Aussie.
I’ve always loved that!
Yo! Loving your deep dive into Australian music. This was the soundtrack to my childhood. If you want something a bit more current from Jimmy Barnes, you should check out Stone Cold with Jow Bonamassa on guitar. I think you'd appreciate it. Peace... ✌
yep that is crazy good
I have reacted to JB before so tying it together makes sense. ❤️
Yo, yo, yo
🙏 ❤️ 😂 🪀
After a glimpse of Renee Iam sure you will do more. "it's a man's world" at the basement is a good place to start
There are a few I want to see more of. Renee included. ❤️
@@michaelgoyettemusic she has been described (when she was 25) as a 60 year old black man from Alabama in a white women's body.
She can obviously sing many genre and did put out some pop songs in the 70's but always came back to what she loved. Blues and jazz with soul. Normally in smaller intimate clubs.
Unfortunately she passed away earlier this year. Her catalogue is vast but anything from the basement will get a good quality recording.
Have had the pleasure of seeing her live a few times in the last 40 years. Love your channel
🔥 great song 🫶 fitting tribute… Yo
💯 yo.
Yo - loving your work.
Maybe have a look at Midnight Oil's 1985 concert 'Oils on the Water' - at the top of their game with a live energy that just slaps you senseless - all the tracks are great but they finish with a killer version of 'Power and the Passion' well worth checking out.
Obviously they were known worldwide but I never saw them live. I’d be down. 🙏
Wedding cake island. Not a famous one, but instrumentally nice. Not suggesting it as a reaction, it's just imo their best.

Yoooo!
Yo!

You haven't done Bow River?! It was never one of their big hits, back in the day, but it stood the test of time. I know others have suggested it, but it really shows the band as a whole. Blues/rock - ua-cam.com/video/TdVRNDnTKTU/v-deo.html
I just noticed you have that icon next to your handle!! 🙏 ❤️ 🍻 thanks so much, it allows me to do more of what I’m doing!! Your requests no longer go on the long list….expect a reaction in the coming days. Thanks again.
@@michaelgoyettemusic Oh, yes, you must react to Cold Chisel doing' BOW RIVER' at the Ringside concert. It's a WOW !!!
@@barnowl. it’s done now. ❤️
Yo. Not much more to add that others already haven’t but here’s another yo for your addiction
