Wow! 75% of my travel research is conducted on UA-cam because I’m a visual learner. This is hands down the best Maldives video on this platform. Descriptive, detailed with beautiful people of color but displaying the culture, food, and variety of islands is what truly set this video apart. I travel for more than photos & beaches so I’ve put the Maldives off. It looked like a place that would get boring after a couple of days for a solo traveler and I didn’t want to spend thousands to be bored. You literally changed my view. Excellent job!

American here. My Wife is Maldivian. Maldives is my second home. The nuts you were chewing are called "Fou" in Dhivehi (pronounced Ff-oh). They're areca nuts wrapped in betel leaf, sprinkled with cinnamon. Customarily eaten at the end of every meal as a pallete cleanser.

Two Maldives trips in the bag at the moment and cannot wait for the first in September. We always travel between May and September. The prices are quite often half what you would pay in peak season. The sea and air temperature are much the same but you may get a day or 2 with rain. No big deal. Normally pay just over 4k with seaplane and all inclusive for both of us for 2 weeks. From the UK its not much more than the price of a Caribbean trip
I don't think I've ever seen any vacation videos/picture/content that wasn't an over water bungalow. Though more strict, "in town" (non resort area) seems more interesting & entertaining.

I've been several times on the Maledives. Fuad has explained and described it very well. So beside of the Resort Islands you can make an amazing holiday on a budget if you visit a local island. But it is very important to choose the island right. 1- It should be not too far from Malé, so you can get easily by boat within 1-2 hours, or even by local ferry (which is just a few dollar) but takes for the same distance up to 7 or 9 hours. 2- It should be not too close to Malé, because everything around Malé is quite dirty, poluted loud and dense populated. 3- Check the Islands and surroundings before on Google Earth or newest pictures. Many Islands are under (a stupid) "development" which is also to be seen on this video 10:16. Some Islands are under expansion by gaining artifictual land. This means the beautiful coral reefes which are home for amazing under water life are getting buried under sand. And it just looks pitty and sad. But as I see on this video, the PH-Team seems to have spend unfortunately a very short time on the Maledives. By the islands they have visited it looks like a few days trip only around close range on Malé. They have been also on the artifictual Island of Hulhumale which is made for residences as you have seen, but also for cheap big hotel blocks, right beside of the international airport. Many people with lower income do come here to make a short vacation only to say "I've been on the Maledives!". But actually it is really not worth to travel to the Maldives only for Hulhumale. You have artifictual sand beaches, a lot (not that good) restaurants, many hotels and much more people. Actually it is allmost like any other beach holiday destination on earth. Same as the Island of Huraa which he mentioned. Before visiting Hulhumale, Huraa, Maafushi or any other Island in a Radius of 30km around Malé, I would rather visit any other Spot in Southeast Asia or anywhere else and have a good time. But, If you plan well you can have an amazing time there. Me and my wife made once an experiment to make a Maledives Holiday as great as possible but also as cheap as possible. We have been for allmost 2 weeks on a local Island with an amazing lagoon and coral reef, exclusive trips, speed boat transfer, and fresh catched fish dining for total 2,200 Euros (roughly 2,500 Dollars?) for us both including our flights from Germany. But as Fuad mentioned. These Islands are the daily life for the local people. An Island on the Maldives means a village as any remote village life you can imagine. There are very faithful and religious. People doing house work, going to there jobs, kids are on school, people go praying, fishing, crafting, farming and so on. It's very important to pay respect if you step in into their daily life. Don't drink Alcohol, don't bring Alcohol (or any other drugs), do not try to teach them how cool you are as a westerner and how they should change to be "cooler". And even important: CONSIDER YOUR CLOTHINGS and your BEHAVINGS with your partner in public. Instagram and Magazinecovers are a fake reality. If you visit a local Island, pack covering cloths in your luggage. Even what the ladies have worn as "discreet" in this video was already crossing the border. Wearing a long skirt: ok Wearing a long skirt with a gap showing your whole leg an hips up to your mound of venus to amply where the way to your vagina is even without exposing the vagina: NOT OK Don't be fooled because nobody is saying something or complaining. The people are to polite to discipline guests as hospiity is very important rule for muslims. But it is very respectless and offending. On some local island were even high tentions between the local people and the guesthouse owners and tour companies behind the scenes. Also even you are a very loving couple on Honeymoon. Do not exchange kisses and passionful touches in public. This rules you should respect. If you can't stand, it's ok. Then ou should pay the price for a exclusive resort island or if you are broke just stay on Hulhumale or Maafushi.
What does 'stupid' development mean? The western lense of how we should live is preposterous as if they will give us land to live. Over 90% of our home, Maldives not Maledives as you spell is, water. Also what does the 2 nd point of 'quite dirty' mean. Have you not seen gullies in the mighty London city. It's one of the highest population density city and yet looks clean. True, some islands are man made mostly to accommodate growing population that need to be centered around the capital Male' where almost all resources are but the sand is ours, vegetations are ours and so is the crystal clear sea.

I visited the Maldives in the 80's while in the Navy. Back then you could rent an Island. Me and a couple of my shipmates rented an Island and had an Awesome time. One of the most beautiful places on earth

I just left Costa Rica 2 days ago (June 25th-July 3rd), everything you're describing about the Maldives the same can be said about Costa Rica. The Costa Rican people were warm, welcoming, and very hospitable. They immediately identified that my Spanish wasn't up to par (lol) and they didn't make me feel out of place. I don't think I've ever seen any vacation videos/picture/content that wasn't an over water bungalow. Though more strict, "in town" (non resort area) seems more interesting & entertaining.

The Vegemite thing is called "rihaakuru" which is just thickened fish broth. They don't taste good on its own but taste amazing as a condiment or to bring flavour to some dishes.

I've been several times on the Maledives.
Fuad has explained and described it very well.
So beside of the Resort Islands you can make an amazing holiday on a budget if you visit a local island.
But it is very important to choose the island right.
1- It should be not too far from Malé, so you can get easily by boat within 1-2 hours, or even by local ferry (which is just a few dollar) but takes for the same distance up to 7 or 9 hours.
2- It should be not too close to Malé, because everything around Malé is quite dirty, poluted loud and dense populated.
3- Check the Islands and surroundings before on Google Earth or newest pictures. Many Islands are under (a stupid) "development" which is also to be seen on this video 10:16. Some Islands are under expansion by gaining artifictual land. This means the beautiful coral reefes which are home for amazing under water life are getting buried under sand. And it just looks pitty and sad.
But as I see on this video, the PH-Team seems to have spend unfortunately a very short time on the Maledives.
By the islands they have visited it looks like a few days trip only around close range on Malé.
They have been also on the artifictual Island of Hulhumale which is made for residences as you have seen, but also for cheap big hotel blocks, right beside of the international airport. Many people with lower income do come here to make a short vacation only to say "I've been on the Maledives!". But actually it is really not worth to travel to the Maldives only for Hulhumale.
You have artifictual sand beaches, a lot (not that good) restaurants, many hotels and much more people. Actually it is allmost like any other beach holiday destination on earth.
Same as the Island of Huraa which he mentioned.
Before visiting Hulhumale, Huraa, Maafushi or any other Island in a Radius of 30km around Malé, I would rather visit any other Spot in Southeast Asia or anywhere else and have a good time.
But, If you plan well you can have an amazing time there.
Me and my wife made once an experiment to make a Maledives Holiday as great as possible but also as cheap as possible.
We have been for allmost 2 weeks on a local Island with an amazing lagoon and coral reef, exclusive trips, speed boat transfer, and fresh catched fish dining for total 2,200 Euros (roughly 2,500 Dollars?) for us both including our flights from Germany.
But as Fuad mentioned.
These Islands are the daily life for the local people.
An Island on the Maldives means a village as any remote village life you can imagine.
There are very faithful and religious.
People doing house work, going to there jobs, kids are on school, people go praying, fishing, crafting, farming and so on.
It's very important to pay respect if you step in into their daily life.
Don't drink Alcohol, don't bring Alcohol (or any other drugs), do not try to teach them how cool you are as a westerner and how they should change to be "cooler".
And even important: CONSIDER YOUR CLOTHINGS and your BEHAVINGS with your partner in public.
Instagram and Magazinecovers are a fake reality.
If you visit a local Island, pack covering cloths in your luggage.
Even what the ladies have worn as "discreet" in this video was already crossing the border.
Wearing a long skirt: ok
Wearing a long skirt with a gap showing your whole leg an hips up to your mound of venus to amply where the way to your vagina is even without exposing the vagina: NOT OK
Don't be fooled because nobody is saying something or complaining.
The people are to polite to discipline guests as hospiity is very important rule for muslims.
But it is very respectless and offending.
On some local island were even high tentions between the local people and the guesthouse owners and tour companies behind the scenes.
Also even you are a very loving couple on Honeymoon. Do not exchange kisses and passionful touches in public.
This rules you should respect.
If you can't stand, it's ok. Then ou should pay the price for a exclusive resort island or if you are broke just stay on Hulhumale or Maafushi.

What does 'stupid' development mean?
The western lense of how we should live is preposterous as if they will give us land to live. Over 90% of our home, Maldives not Maledives as you spell is, water.
Also what does the 2 nd point of 'quite dirty' mean. Have you not seen gullies in the mighty London city. It's one of the highest population density city and yet looks clean.
True, some islands are man made mostly to accommodate growing population that need to be centered around the capital Male' where almost all resources are but the sand is ours, vegetations are ours and so is the crystal clear sea.
The Maldives are my bucket list fantasy destination! My friends & I are planning a Soneva Jani trip next year!!!

I visited the Maldives in the 80's while in the Navy. Back then you could rent an Island. Me and a couple of my shipmates rented an Island and had an Awesome time. One of the most beautiful places on earth

Being a Black creative myself I'm always searching for inspiration when shooting in different places and I always come back to your videos. More importantly, you give such and in depth look at what it's like to travel while Black, I truly appreciate y'all for that. I just left Costa Rica 2 days ago (June 25th-July 3rd), everything you're describing about the Maldives the same can be said about Costa Rica. The Costa Rican people were warm, welcoming, and very hospitable. They immediately identified that my Spanish wasn't up to par (lol) and they didn't make me feel out of place. Overall, I credit your page for helping me feel a lot more comfortable traveling abroad while Black. Much Love to the entire crew.

Whoa! This is quite awesome. I am amazed. I never saw this part of the Maldives anywhere. The only images we have of the Maldives are those ultra luxurious bungalows "floating" out over blue seas.
