I’m officially not buying anymore makeup, after having a kind of breakthrough (this channel helps me immensely for my over consumption problem). I recently realized how much of a sucker I am for a really good deal. Especially with something I’ve had an interest in. So, I’m cutting certain channels out (channels that tempt me), emptying my online carts, AND just trying to avoid anything that I know makes me weak. Thank you for your honest and consumer conscious content, it really is helping me.

I've been having the opposite experience (in terms of things like the body oil). I love shimmer and glitter but never really got to wear it as much because my day to day life had me attempting to look professional. During the pandemic I've been wearing shimmers and/or glitters nearly every day. I love walking past the mirror and seeing the sparkle! (I also wear a lot more perfume and wear stranger clothing combinations haha) It's been one of my great joys during this not so joyous year. All that is to say, don't wait for the special occasion to wear the body oil! Put it on and just see how it makes you feel. Maybe it'll even infect the rest of your household with some levity as well

At 52 y/o I have given up (happily) on neck and jowl products. I also have hereditary wrinkles on my neck and have just realized that there is no product that will do anything about it -- and that's totally cool with me now.

The Derma E review reminded me I need to thank you for that lotion recommendation. I have the most sensitive skin that hates everything. It was probably about a year ago I heard you recommend that lotion and I thought I low price was worth trying even though I had just tried like 4 things in the last month and was so frustrated and I didn't want to have another lotion that hurt. So I picked it up and I am so glad I did.

This may be a little weird but almost every time you upload a new video and I see your face, I remember the video you had of your grandma and I remember how sophisticated she looked and how you look just like her. And then I feel a little jealous that I don't have that same relationship with my own family or that same proud history in my own face that you have. Succinctly, I am #teamjowlsforever lol

SPOT ON POINT about derma-e. I generally use a bougie, super hydrating peptide eye creams. I've tried several k-beauty brands that are more affordable but still very rich, and they gave me milia (but then worked brilliantly as neck creams). I have a little tube of Cerave eye cream that I keep for travel or for cleaning up fall out under my eyes if I do my eyes first and get over enthusiastic. But my eyes are super sensitive, usually puffy, where I show my age the most, and where I show my almost perpetual exhaustion the most. Some mornings, I use three eye products. My Mom was the same. It;s genetics and allergies and poor sleep. Eye creams are an area of skin care where quality ingrediants make a difference. The cerave is fine in a pinch, but even for travel, if I have any better option, I use it. but I'm also testing out a couple of night serums that are expensive for specific skin concerns and I wanted to try a slightly less expensive eye cream just to keep my skin care costs the same until I decide what I'm doing with myself (I often do this, I have a set skincare budget and I shift around in it if I need to change something). I ordered the derma-e peptide eye cream and so far I am really impressed. It has a texture I like, its very hydrating and silky, I see a difference when I use it. It's one of their more expensive choices, but it is a lot less expensive than a comparable thing from one of my go to skin care brands. This isn't the first time I've done this with derma-e, They have a night cream I enjoy and that my wife loves and uses that replaced a more expensive cream. AND they are often on sale at Ulta or Whole Foods. For American brands, if I want an affordable option to use for actual skincare (and not as a travel standby or something I use with makeup), they are the only brand I find consistently reliable. Otherwise, I go k-beauty, if I am trying to find a less expensive option. Still testing, but so far, very pleased.

Yes! You introduced me to that Dermae giant tub of night cream and it’s been my go to for like almost two years now. It’s such a nice moisturizer! I use all my actives and oils under it and it performs exactly how I want it to and the cost per ounce is fantastic

I'm so glad you spoke about your feelings/thoughts (albeit briefly) or attempted lack thereof surrounding aging and the natural changes that human bodies undergo as time passes... I'm in my late-20s and already have caught myself feeling *incredibly* anxious on a regular basis about how my skin and body will change/have already changed, and have been experiencing so many confusing feelings on what it means to be youthful & young and how it's affecting my identity as I recognize that I am no longer what is considered by many to be "youthful"... You touched on things that I try to tell myself to assuage my anxiety but it was surprisingly soothing to hear it externally.

I warched a UA-camr empties video she said she use it for her acne scars and it's very effective, I used mine to lighten a scar I got from a surgery. Ulta is the best place to buy it, u can use coupons and they usually go on sale for half the price.

A friend told me last week, "it's okay to keep things you love". I had found a beautiful tea cup and saucer set at a thrift store, and texted them about how guilty i was because I didn't "need" them. Which is true. I live in a 350 sq ft apartment. And I'll probably never use them. It seems to me sort of a self fulfilling prophecy that you didn't reach for that lipstick, even though you love it. A part of you probably held back because you were "saving it" to give away. Not because you actually didn't think to use it. I got the tea set. It's okay to keep things you love. ❤️

i've had the same revelation about skincare and investing in certain things and cutting corners where i can OR want! if you don't already, you should check out alice in the rabbithole's videos. she reaffirmed my conclusions about elf being a reliable brand for very basic, minimal products like the hydrating essence or cleansers-- so i can replace my $30 cleanser but keep my bougie other stuff that make me look sweaty/wet... most notably tatcha dewy cream, glossier futuredew and milk hydrogrip primer. (swoons longingly)

  • @cinemaocd1752

I am reckoning with a load of new skincare and makeup right now. I was wondering how you isolate new products so you can test them to see if they bother your skin. I usually introduce one new product for a week and I see no negative effects, I carry on and add it to my routine. Is that enough time or should I give it two weeks in isolation before adding another new product?

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  4 роки тому

I think it probably varies from person to person. I'm not as organized about it as as I should be, but I'm also very ingredients-focused so I usually have a sense of which products to watch out for and which ones can sort of go right into the routine. I think a week is definitely enough time to track general irritation or issues. For acne, I've heard some people say it can take longer for the pimples from a newly-introduced product to start popping up...but that idea really stresses me out, especially as a person who tests different things! Short answer, I'm not sure :)

sorry if I wasn't clear, but I only feel this way about the eye gloss, not the whole range! The other DM products I tried all really impressed me with their lasting power, especially the Colorfix Foil! But the Colorfix Glaze definitely feels like a purely editorial tool to me.

    • @mylastestaddiction739

I was under the idea that I would be able to put the eye gloss over the colorfix and the colorfix wouldn’t move and that is the case but only for a few hours.. The whole reason why I was interested in her colorfix line was because of the gloss to top it over with to create that wet look. So it was disappointing to me because of that.

I thought neck cream was fake or a way to age shame me until April when someone sent me a sample or a small bottle. And then I started using one and was on zoom calls, like damn, I am shocked by how much more poised I look now that I am treating my neck and jaw line. I mean, I think there are some vertical lines that are just par for the course with age and tech and my bone structure and its the cosmetic dermatologist if I want those gone, but they are far less visible and the improvement in tone, texture and elasticity is shocking. And to me very visible. But I am not spending a hundred dollars a jar until an actual doctor tells me that is what I should do. Instead, I seven skin the heck out of it am/pm and then use a reasonably priced (still expensive, but within my budget) neck cream OR use a firming eye cream that doesn't work for my eyes with a smidge of moisturizer. I literally started early-covid and went from feeling super self-conscious in zoom depos to thinking how much more elongated and less-Delores Umbridge I looked. I feel like the prices on a lot of neck creams are actually insane. iN-SANE. But I do think, I have more reasonable options and I like that it became something I use because it makes me feel more confident and not because I'm panic buying for age.

Almost 10 years ago I stopped using nightcream because the organic skincare brand Dr. Hauschka recommends that to let the skin breathe and regenerate at night. I was really scared to do that and thought my skin would be ultra dry and itchy, but that did not happen. Since then my skin has never been better. I had very dry and sensitive skin, and now it has become so much better. Before I go to bed I just clean my face and use toner and sometimes serum, but I never use something moisturizing or with oil in it. It’s also cheaper than the most affordable nightcream...
