Once I shut the camera off he remembered we had WD40 and could use that. But since the video needed to be edited and uploaded to go live the next day, we didn't have time to wait for a new lube for the job. 🙂
Agree, plus grease. However the tap used was only a starter tap, should be followed with an intermediate tap and then a straight tap (3 in total) to form the perfect thread especially for the small threads. WD-40 doesn't cut the mustard, or the thread. :-))
Matt, I broke a tap earlier this year installing a rope clutch; order a set of tap removers (they have a castellated head that fits in the gap of the tap), be gentle with them working back and forth along with some lube...came out without any damage and was able to complete threading without re-drilling. Good luck!
Cute shed. You know you can buy different sizes shipping containers use and the can be resold or moved as needed. No wasted time with installation.. good job though.
We tried to get a shipping container when we first got to the marina, to be able to store all our tools and supplies in, but the marina wouldn't allow us. 😢
I recently purchased this same (or similar) shed. To keep it from being 120 degrees inside, I purchased a solar powered fan combo that brings cooler outside air in (from one fan) and removes hot air from inside (from the second fan). The two were about $50 online.
A good idea for the slider on the door is I use sail track and cars for door sliding won’t rust salt doesn’t worry them and the cars attach to the metal bar at top. And slides beautifully.
Here is an idea for keeping the heat down in your new shed. Put up some form of reflective insulation radiant barrier that is readily available in Lowe's or Home Depot type stores on the roof underside. There was a dramatic temperature decrease in my shed here in Arizona when did this.
You guys are use to working in tight spaces. The shed should work. When you move the boat. Block it up high enough to stand up fully and you will have plenty of shop space.
You can get a broken tap extractor tool, I used one on an M10 tap that shattered. Hopefully you can get one for your tap size. You have no hope of drilling out its too hard.
Being a retired mechanic i would suggest some left handed drill bits for when you are trying to drill out those taps which is going to be a bear but the left handed drill bits the possibly of walking them out as you are trying to drill them.
Tin shed is only secure as per the weakest link. It will be interesting to see how it stands up to the elements. Any plans to build it on an inexpensive foundation (pallets, 4x4, etc) - rain, water, snow? Big move soon. Boat and materials will be more exposed. Any boat canopy enclosure - used or other [tarps, sun shade, large special events tent/gazebo, privacy screens]? Got to make the boat more secure. That was some rain storm and deluge.
Getting closer and closer to see it in daylight. But I'm a bit worried over the new shed, looks very flimsy so I wonder how it will handle the extreme weather you seem to have there with heavy rain and massive winds? Hate to see it fly away and crash into your or someone else's boat...
For the top rails, at least one extra screw is useful to backup the keyholes, preventing the track from working loose and sliding to the wrong side of the keyhole.

Why are you moving out of the tent? I know it was severely damaged by a storm -- does the yard want you out so it can be repaired or replaced? Will you have to drape the boat in tarps every night until all the windows and doors are installed? Doors are looking very solid.
We're coming out of the tent to be able to add the bows and sterns. The tent is too small for us to do it while in there. When we move outside we'll shrink wrap the boat to protect it from the elements.
If you’re really concerned about the waterproof, Anais, perhaps it would make sense to have them put both shrink wrap over it however, I suspect that by the time you read this yellow gotten all that rain from more beloved tropical storm Debbie and you’ll know for sure by now
Not to be Debbie downer but think about final assembly and aligning of the doors when the boat is in the water. The shape of the opening my change slightly vs being on blocks.
The room we have available to do that in the tent is very minimal and would make the job...and working around it after...much harder. This is something that will be much easier for us to do in the work yard.

23 years ago I purchased from Costco a Lifetime 8x15Ft shed with severe weather kit (Edmonton AB). Sitting on a 10in base of road crush. Still up, still working only the side windows have fogged over. Best purchase and setup ever for the house.

I would go with 1/4 x 20 or 28, 10 x 24 is kinda thin and good luck getting the broken taps out better off re-drilling next to it. O and a little WD-40 works really well for tapping Aluminum...Edit for a 1/4″-20 thread a #7 drill bit , which is 0.201″ diameter. For a 1/4″-28 thread, use a #3 drill bit (0.213″
In aluminum, I'd choose 1/4-20.....Worse yet, 1/4-24 is an oddball thread pitch...out and about in the rest of the world you may have trouble finding replacements...since you're eventual world travelers, I'd suggest metric hardware (as an American, that kinda hurt to say...)....jus sayin....also, you should treat the aluminum with conversion coating after sanding (it does corrode, especially in a salt-water environment) Bonderite M-CR 1201 Aero, Formerly Alodine 1201, or M-CR 1132 in the Pen dispenser.

I've watched you spend an infinite amount of time on this build and am impressed. However, given your skill levels wouldn't a damaged boat needing repair be a better and faster route to your dream? Somehow I doubt you'll ever get back the money spent on this build not to mention the lost time sweating and breathing fiberglass dust. Sail Life is taking the rebuild route and while his boat is in really poor condition he's still ahead of your effort. I didn't think his decision was sound at first but it does make sense in the long run. Keep up the great work.
Its not their first boat so they know all about the dream of sailing. As they've said before they get itchy for a building project when they've been sailing for a while so it's not lost time. No-one does a project like this expecting to get their money back surely?
crap, its been three years since you started. i thought this was a two year project. your views have dropped off significantly. you need to stop f-ing around and get this done. at this rate you have at least 2 1/2 more years. thats 5 1/2 years of boat work, most people won't watch that. just saying, used to love your channel.
One opinion out of many... personally, I enjoy their content. Some channels views drop after they start sailing. I know of at least one channel that had that issue, then they sold the boat and are building new.

We love what we're doing, we love the skills we're building, and we won't be taking any shortcuts, even if viewers are uninterested in our sanding. Quality can not be rushed, and in 10 years we'll be more invested in the caliber of our boat/home, and not if we lost a few views during the less interesting parts of the build. 😉

Views will go back up again when they start on different jobs like wiring, engines, cabinetry etc. I haven't seen any f-ing around just lots of hard work with the occasional break to recharge the batteries.

When tapping I've learnt that it's half a turn forward and quarter back. Much less stress on the tap so less breakage
and some light oil to keep from Galling the threads, especially with soft metals like alum.

Great idea on the fan. I thought I was buying an all white shed, but once it arrived, I saw that only the roof was white. It sure gets hot inside

If you tap the GoPro into your cupped palm hard that battery will slide out enough to grab it. None of my batteries have the pull tabs anymore.
Can you explane why you move outside and not fix the tent? Working in the tent has a lot of advantages I guess?
The boat is bigger than the tent. They can't attach the bows until they move out.

Yes. We can't put on the bows or sterns while in the tent. Plus, there is only about 4.5" of clearance on the sides, so no room to spray.
Why not a 20 ft. container. More secure, waterproof and my guess the yard would buy it from you.
We didn't want to be a-holes and take up too much of their space. They get so full with winter storage that they've had to start turning boats away.
Try al piece of duct tape applied to the edge of the battery and pull with the other end and see if it will slide out of the GoPro..

You need some kind of wax lubricant for the tap.
Come on Johnson, you know the crotch thrust is mandatory for at least a few of the waist height screws with an electric screwdriver.

Agreed, and it has an elevated wood floor, not open to gravel. I'd be worried this thing is being anchored ( I guess ) to just the soil and gravel.
They might not be allowed , SVLynx had to get rid of their containers , trailers were fine though 😂
