After hearing James Galway play Annie's Song on the Johnny Carson show I was so impressed that I drove sixty miles the next day to our nearest music store and bought a flute. Of course I knew nothing of playing a flute but I didn't dare let on to the store keeper. I took my flute out to the privacy of my truck, assembled it and tried to play it. What, no sound. I looked through the end and saw nothing inside. I stormed back into the music store complaining and demanding a flute with a reed inside. The store owner thought I was pulling his leg but I assured him that I was serious. He had to explain to me how a flute works. He sold me a cassette tape with lessons. I finally got to where I could run a complete scale but by then I was exhausted with the whole thing. The flute was put away for decades until I finally found it and got rid of it lol.
