    @Fitnesscharged23 2 місяці тому +37

    Look how much Giannis was able to close out on Reaves’ game winning field goal attempt at the end of regulation. If he was able to cover that much ground, I don’t think Austin would’ve been able to get off a closer shot. He’s the Greek freak for a reason, his arms are long as hell lol.

    • @gandydancer9710
      @gandydancer9710 2 місяці тому

      If you're talking about 12:18 stopping at the elbow was an easy shot for Reaves and GA was going to be nowhere near it. How long do you think it takes for Reaves to get off his shot?

    • @Fitnesscharged23
      @Fitnesscharged23 2 місяці тому +5

      @@gandydancer9710from the time the ball was inbounded to Austin getting off his shot, Giannis was able to make it from inside the paint all the way to outside the 3 point line to contest his shot.
      You’re telling me that if Austin were to have stopped at the elbow, (which is closer to where Giannis is already located) he wouldn’t be able to contest. The elbow is arguably a longer pass to make from where the ball is being inbounded, which would’ve given Giannis even more time to close out.

    • @gandydancer9710
      @gandydancer9710 2 місяці тому

      @@Fitnesscharged23 Yes, I'm telling you that if Reaves had just stopped to receive the ball, turned, and shot GA couldn't have gotten close to him.
      GA's running wasn't anyway being triggered by the pass being thrown, it was triggered by Reaves breaking to get open, so, no, a deeper pass would NOT have given GA more time to close out. Exactly the opposite is true.
      The slowest part of the closeout was the initial bit, so Reaves wasn't increasing his separation by prolonging the chase.
      Getting the pass around the guy defending the out of bounds is an issue, but Reaves didn't have to run as far as he did outside the 3-point line to get open for the pass. And it's up to the passer to time his pass so that Reaves doesn't have to wait for its arrival after he's ready for it. That's why you practice to get the ball thrown before he reaches where he will catch it.
      Nobody is defining "the elbow" as requiring Reaves to have his toes in the paint. Getting the pass inside the 3-point line as far as Reaves ended up outside it would still be "at the elbow" so far as I am concerned and, as Thinking Basketball says, that is where he should have shot it.

    • @Fitnesscharged23
      @Fitnesscharged23 2 місяці тому

      @@gandydancer9710 It just doesn’t make any sense that you continue to say Giannis wouldn’t be any where close to Austin when if you pause the video at 12:13 you can see Giannis is only one foot below the free throw line. He’s 6’11. You can see Giannis has his eyes on reaves and the inbounder. If Austin were to have caught the ball at the 12:13 mark, Giannis would’ve seen the ball being inbounded and started heading towards Austin to close out. And as you can clearly see when you pause the video at 12:13, Giannis would not have to travel far to contest Austin’s shot. This is not a regular defender we are talking about. This is the former defensive player of the year whose nick name is literally Greek freak lmao.

    • @gandydancer9710
      @gandydancer9710 2 місяці тому

      @@Fitnesscharged23 As I already said, GA doesn't start moving because the ball is being inbounded, he moves because Reaves is getting open. And at 12:13 he is facing away from Reaves and not in motion at all. If Reaves had gotten the ball where I say he should have demanded getting it and where he should have gotten it his shot would not have been effectively contested. GA's DPOY and nickname don't change the physics of the situation -- he wouldn't have gotten there in time. Reaves running further out just gave GA more time at full speed to get to him... and he still didn't block the shot. Reread what I wrote. You are not taking it in.

      No one is perfect. So, isn't a contradiction to what you wrote. But, possibly his desire to be a star has him making bad plays. For example, that was a low IQ play Thinking Basketball called out at the end of regulation. Reaves had plenty of space to terminate his cut off the AD screen, set his feet, and pull up from inside of the arc or just behind the line. But, unfortunately, he went for the hero shot. That could have cost the Lakers, hopefully it won't.

    • @nicoalexander774

      @@AndrewRobyEngineerI get what you’re saying but, I think the inside the arc shot would have been an easier challenge by Giannis or somebody else for the Bucks as apposed to getting plenty of room to launch for the 3. Also, I disagree with the assessment that he wants to be a star. I actually think he needs to be encouraged to take even more command even if it takes away from the guys ahead of him in Bron and AD. The most recent game they had against the Denver Nuggets I got really frustrated because Austin only got 1 touch in the final 7 minutes of that game and both AD and Bron wilted down the stretch and kept on forcing the issue instead of going to HIM or elsewhere for production. So, respectfully, I think until he’s willing to take at least 15-20 shots a game, he’s going to continue to be a little underutilized on this team for what he’s really worth.

    The weakness is basically the Bucks only have one player that can drive to the basket in Giannis. So if you find a way to stop Giannis from getting to the rim then the Bucks are forced to take more difficult shots.
    All you need is to have a defender like AD and Dame and Khris being unable to convert jumpshots.

      They'll get cooked. They don't have the respect of the refs. The dropoff from starters to bench is steep. Plus, you have a veteran point guard and Giannis, who should be able to exploit these Laker guards like everybody else does.

    • @wearelost666

      wow, I didn't know the drop off was that steep for the bench lineups, I figured that talent was starting to be more evenly distributed in the league and that bench players and starters would have less difference between them, but I guess not.
