This is how the Babylonian, Chinese, and Egyptians figured it out before Pythagoras. Technically speaking it is not a Pythagoras discovery. And most important .... I should have use it before raising a wall in my house because I ended up with a 1 inch difference and I am not happy with it. Excellent video.
I am not in the field, but your video helped me a lot for a math assignment. Not only that, but it was so thorough that seeing construction workers do their jobs won't seem like a foreign language to me anymore. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I was especially looking for the 2nd half when you are starting in the center of an open space and creating the 90-degree angle. Thanks again!!
Technically speaking you are using the Law of Cosines, not the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean theorem states that if you start with a right triangle, then the sum of the squares of the two adjacent sides will be equal to the hypotenuse squared not the other way around. Pythagoras did not say that if you have a triangle where the sum of the squares of two sides equals the square of the remaining side, then it has to be a right triangle. It's a subtle but significant difference.
Any suggestions on how to do this for a house that's out of square? I'm doing a remodel and the house isn't square, so not sure how to reconcile that when building laying out new interior walls. Obviously if I pull parallel off of one wall the perpendicular wall would be off a little and vice versa.
@BobClarizio I'm building a gypsy wagon at the moment. I remember learning alot of carpentry stuff but haven't used it in forever. I've been a truck driver the last 7 years but I'm getting out of it
@@BobClarizio 2 weeks. Got the shell up. Need to square it and do the roof. I wish I knew how to do electrical What do you need to do to get something rvia certified? Where do you even go to do that?
@ModernMessiah unfortunately only a registered manufacturer can be certified by the RVIA. However there are other organizations that I’d recommend. Have you tried NOAH? noahcertified.org/ they should be able to help you
My math class really enjoyed this video! Hunter said A+!!
Thanks!!!

Thank you so much it very great thank you so much 💙💙💙
Can I butt up a framing square against the wall and flick a chalk line?
Yeah that will work but for long line projections over 20-25ft I prefer to use the 3-4-5
@@BobClarizio thanks for your reply 😊
