Someone finally pointed out how dumb safe armored heat engagers are, good god.
I hate them too. The safe heat smashes are just as horrible on other characters too. oof. Even if you block the low version there is no payoff.
So cheap. And for some reason almost every character has them (ofc not Kazuya)

Steve from Tekken 4 to Tekken 6. He rarely talks, he just throws hands. Only time he'll actually speak is in his stories. Not to mention he had his own personal story going with Nina, but all of that went out the window in Tekken 8 as the two of them act like they don't even know each other.

That one change would have me playing the game again,had to go back to infinite casual matches in sf6 to easily play some great sets.
On the customization side of things, some outfit can't be fully recolored as well. Both the T8 version and the T3 version of Jin's fire pants gi CANNOT have its flames recolored, despite Tekken 7 allowing you to do so. And they add a shop to the game a month later ? Outrageous.
They're probably planning to put the Jin gi with the white pants on Tekken Shop
While we’re talking about customization, can we talk about how silly it is that you can’t have a different hairstyle AND a head item on? I can’t equip Lee’s hairstyle and a headband on, lets say Hwoarang for example, and its like, for what reason? And why is it that the hair colors in a weird way? For some hairstyles, just getting plain brown is like borderline impossible for no apparent reason. Like it’ll be brown for one style, and then orange on another style.

Jun and DJ's heat smashes are just crazy. They turn into damn Street Fighter characters temporarily
Jun isn't even that bad. Sure it heals a bit on block, but on hit it isn't even a full heal like some (or is it all?) other characters.
@KingQuetzal it's the fact that it's 2 hits, the second one tracks, it can be used in combos and is a full screen whiff or movement punisher

@@omegaweapon116 Yeah, I don't think it's that crazy. Just hold back if you are that scared. She has no low combo starters. If you play mid/close range with frequent side stepping and step the first heat burst shot the second is launch punishable as well. Just have to play around it a bit, much easier than characters who gain a ton of +frames while in heat. She basically doesn't gain any frames from heat so having some phantom pressure isn't even that crazy.

Steve is voiced by the same guy they rerecorded all the lines for Tekken 8. It’s the first game to not reuse any of the voice work in a really long time.

Heat smash, heat burst, everything is +, bad kbd, bad hitboxes, weak defense, tracking grabs, hard to break grabs, instant rage art, balance is a joke, chip damage can take 70% of your health just by blocking, trashcharacters and nonsensical spam will get you further than rly trying to play tekken, ... im back to t7 and i hope many others will follow

That combined with adding people made more difficult, I don't have as much fun with new players everyday as i did in Tekken 7

i really don't understand how this entire plugging situation can be so hard. at the beginning of a match have both players send the match ID to a server to ensure they are in a match, then when one player loses connection have the other player send a signal to the server, have the server send a signal to both players and wait for a return signal. whoever's signal doesn't return gets a lose, the win streak is ended and the server will remember the amount of times that player has quit, after X amount of quits within a timeframe they will either be removed from ranked matchmaking, get a timeout, or get thrown into a queue with other quitters only, whoever's signal returns gets a win, if neither player returns a signal it's neither a lose nor a win.
this can even be done on a P2P fighting game, since most online games have matchmaking servers that hands off the connection to the P2P system once the connection is established.
same goes for costume cheaters, at the beginning of a match check if all costume settings are within limits. if they are not, check by how much, see if we're dealing with a cheater or a rounding error. if it's a suspected cheater put them on a list, see if this happens more often and how consistent the values are. if it looks like a rounding error just put those values within the limits.

One thing that worries me for the longevity of Tekken is that the playstyle favours hyper aggressive spammy knowledge check styles far more than I feel like it did in T7. Maybe it's because everyone is still pretty new and character knowledge is still pretty low or maybe it's the FT3 format which clearly rewards people for knowledge checking because by the time the other person has adjusted the set's practically over.
It's spammy, but the knowledge checks are pretty much the same. I got to Fujin with Bryan in about a week and a half and I never mained him before by doing basic block punishments, ducking, beating the knowledge checks. I will say that this game is incredibly spammy and more annoying than T7 in some ways. T7 was a better competitive game. T8 is just, you make one wrong move and you're dead, it requires significantly less execution to do massive damage with most characters now, it's dumb.
Yea, it feels like you're better off attacking in this game. Once you get carried to the wall, or even worse a corner, it's hard to recover. You can get hit with a heat engager, then have to block a heat smash or cancel, and then you have to block the next attack that is usually from some stance where it's a 50/50 guess

Yep. I understand wanting to make the game more aggressive and think it can work but games that overdo it tend to be spammy and just exhausting to play
The main problem is the top tier characters ( which are too many in one game mind you) are able to kill you in 3 hits while you have to do 1000 hits for the same damage. Instead of all these dumb costumes they need to bring in the patch so that Tekken is competitive again because now I just can’t take it seriously at all.

The only thing I really think is done better is the hairstyles actually look like hair and not wigs. They were god awful in T7. But other than that everything else is kinda ehhh. Not sure why we can’t just equip gloves on and instead theyre connected to shirt styles either.
In T8 I see people all the time able to dress up their characters as other characters from other franchises. That's crazy and ain't none of this shit there in T7.
It is by far the worst customization. Not even close to T7 and that one was way worse than T6 and TTT2 (which both had the best ones IMO)...I'm dumbfounded to hear that people genuinely think that this one is good, or even the best (wtf???)...
Anyone who says its worse than t7, that had the most surface level garbage costumization to the point where costumized characters only looked stupid, is capping.

You forgot a very important thing, that Training Mode won't save your "recording" and "select move to play" options, so everytime you play a match or change anything that reloads the mode, everything gets deleted. This was a problem since Tekken 7 release, it just more noticeable now because we can use Training Mode while searching for a match, so it makes half of the Training Mode useless, you just don't have time to re-record everything after each match and it's so annoying. I think more people should talk about this, no other games besides Tekken does this in Training Mode.

I also didn't understand why they didn't make these classic Tekken arcades as well as the Namco mini games playable, they could have added them into the Tekken lounge like Street Fighter 6 did, that's an opportunity missed.

6 months later, some of the issues mentioned are now fixed. Dragunov is supposedly going to be nerfed in the upcoming balance path along with nina.

I honestly wish Heat wasn't a thing in general. Rage and Rage art are enough. You just can't focus on fundamentals properly anymore, so many moves and heat smashes are absurdly strong that it ruins the notorious difficulty of Tekken. I had a much harder time ranking up in SF6 than in Tekken 8.

Since T6, I stopped caring as much. I put what I consider a decent rank on (purple ranks), then I just play casually. I got fed up with trying to climb all the way up when people just rage quit or cheat in the higher ranks (not all, but quite a few).

This is one of the reasons why I hate Harada and Namco. The staff who developed Ridge Racer (Kohta Takahashi, Taku Inoue) and some indie developers (A Grumpy Fox, ViJuDa) are anxiously awaiting New Ridge Racer. For god's sake, Ridge Racer's rival, Cruis'n, Hot Wheels racing game, LEGO racing game, F-Zero, and even Top Gear (Top Racer in Japan), Crazy Taxi are back. Also, FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage has been updated.
I don't understand why they can make Ace Combat, Klonoa, Baten Kaitos but not Ridge Racer. Someone is tired of waiting for the new Ridge Racer to come out for a long time, so they are developing a spiritual sequel called 'Midnight Challenge'. If OutRun and Shutokou Battle are back but Ridge Racer still isn't, I won't buy a Namco game. There was OutRun 2 at British Racing Greats 2023, and Lizardcube tweeted about OutRun, Rumors are spreading in Japan that Genki is making a new Shutokou Battle. I hate to say it, but I have a feeling Namco will end up like Konami. Namco had several developers make boring, bad anime games, cancels development of "at least" five games. .hack fans are disappointed that Namco continues to release SAO games. Less than half a year after Last Recollection was released, Fractured Daydream was announced. If you want to know the problems with racing games, watch Raycevick's I Love Racing Games, They Suck! It's a great video.

Armored heat engagers essentially function like a DP, and there’s legit no reason not to use them that way unfortunately. Its like, oh word? You left a few frames open for me to mash R2, hold this guaranteed damage as I take my turn back.

Other 3-D games like DoA and Virtua Fighter had great tracking on throws. It was a solid counter play option without having to commit to a slow full circular (homing).

Yea I don't get that. King neutral now is a lot of run up grab because that shit is homing for no reason. They already buffed grabs by making them uncountable when you parry or PC so why did they also need to be homing?
I feel like it's a noob crutch but at the same time all they've done is just made learning guardbreaks that much more important and therefore the game is overall less accessible.

2:55 I mean this is unequivocally untrue. Frame dropping on your end is entirely dictated by your own device and both players connection to the server. Their bad connection can affect your match, but not their Pc's ability to produce proper framerates.

Even if they buffed it, they would just give Reina ff2 a jetpack, which you can purchase from the Tekken Shop. Not to worry, since I could just plug, should I run into it in ranked.

And yeah the netcode is terrible, the rollback occurs every single match at a average of 2/3 rollback frames which make any movement action look like mini teleporting LOL

I’m glad somebody mentioned the Jukebox thing. I didn’t mind the dubstep direction of Tekken 7 and had Distorter selected for one of the maps DO NOT DO THIS. The mixing is atrocious
And the music from Tekken 4 and Revolution are quieter for some reason.

Finding matches take 30 minutes in almost every rank.
Shitty netcode
Game crashes all the time. Can't play 1 match without crashing with my titan x and i9900k pc
Broken characters.
Grabs broken. Can't backdash avoid, can't jump avoid, can't sidestep avoid, unreactable and grabs break armor moves 100% guaranteed your health +more
People plug 80% of the time and loses nothing

I agree that grabs don't need to track, but other than that, they're alright. The sidestepping and backdashing problem sounds like skill issue cuz movement is better in this game

Agree on the netcode part, it's slightly better than T7 netcode but worse than SF6 netcode.
But the excuse I always get is Tekken is 3D game so having good netcode is harder🙃
