    @pseftigirl there is a product called tylose which can be used as a thickening agent for fondant (and is what we use). it can be found at most cake decorating supply stores. i'm not sure about cornstarch though.

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  13 років тому

    @pseftigirl is your fondant homemade? if yes, then you can keep it in the fridge...use the microwave to warm it up (in 10sec intervals). if you don't have to put it in the fridge, i recommend that you don't. just leave it in an airtight container and it will keep just fine until you need it in january.

    thank you so much! i think a TV show might be a ways away, but one can always dream :) i'm a school teacher by day (kindergarten) so the teaching aspect of the channel comes naturally to me, but thank you for saying such kind words.

    I use a Canadian distributor but you could try Amazon or ebay too...or Americolor's website.

    they're just 2 different brands that sell gel paste. yes you can use wilton to colour fondant.

    I know I've commented before but I just honestly find you so likable, you manage to be knowledgeable and (for lack of a better word) educational without being condescending or superior (lookin' at you, Mich Turner) which is a rare find! I'll be keeping an eye out for your TV show but in the meantime, please keep the videos coming! :)

    I like wilton tools, but if you're looking for fondant etc, I prefer Satin Ice. If you have other things you want suggestions on, please feel free to send me a message :)

    What are you using to colour the gum paste? And what are you using to draw the white and black spots on?

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio

    You can get them at any cake supply store or craft store...or online...try ebay and amazon for some good deals.

    I use Americolor gel usually and you can get it on ebay, amazon etc. In Canada, I get it from Golda's Kitchen.

    Yes, if your fondant is premade, you can still color it with the gel pastes.

    Thanks for mentioning our Chefmaster liqua-gel! Your video for dying fondant was great!

  • @Cookiescupcakesandcardio
    @Cookiescupcakesandcardio  12 років тому

    Liquid food colour would make it too runny in my opinion....but if you try it, and it works, let me know and Ill pass it on! As you can tell in my video, the red dye took so much, it made it super sticky...and the heat in the kitchen didn't help!! I would be worried the liquid stuff would make it way too runny as it isn't as concentrated as the gel colours.

    Thanks for doing red. It seems like whenever there's a fondant dying tutorial, the colours selected are always pastels. Its nice to see the reality of exactly how much dye is required to achieve that beautiful red.

    You should be able to keep it for a long time if it's stored in a sealed container. I usually have mine in a ziplock, inside a sealed tupperware.

    Hi lovely video thank you. I was just making a polar bear figure but the black eyes in gum paste that I placed on the white polar bear's face bled the black colour a bit on the white face (I coloured the black parts seconds before applying them)! Is there some time I need to wait before assembling coloured components of figurine to stop this happening? Thanks!

    Hi, I'm a cupcake and cake decorator and my business is just getting well known. I do a lot of different colours for cupcake orders and I was wondering if buying a set of large Americolor food colours online, pack of 41, for $250au was worth it? I have the money, and I've been using the sample colours for a while now and I love the product.

    Another important difference to mention between Fondant and Gumpaste is that Gumpaste gets hard because it has Tylose added to it. FYI: I find the best thing to get the stains from food coloring off my hands is white vinegar.

      I've had both - wilton tastes terrible - satin ice is much better! I make my own marshmallow fondant because everyone says it tastes better! and it's a little bit different texture - (and cheaper) but it does take a lot of work to make :) hope this helps!
